- Check out the new and updated jig here: • Cutting Dados with the...
This video details the mistakes I made on the first jig and how to improve upon them for a more accurate dado cut. Learning every day!
I decided to build a jig that I saw from another video on UA-cam. It went together really well and I am pleased with the results.
Here is the video of the jig I replicated (from SailingandSuch):
• Simple Router Dado Jig
Thanks for sharing your build of this router jig. I especially appreciate you pointing out your imperfections, we all have them. I will be building one this weekend and plan on using some baltic birch plywood scraps (that MDF you used is a bit easier to flex which is what caused your gap). Stay Safe!
Thanks for making the vid. It’s nice to see errors as well. Makes the rest of us feel better that even great woodworkers make mistakes. I will be copying your jig. Once again, thanks.
Love the simplicity!
be careful reaching past blade with those sleeves could ruin your day
Thanks for the vid !! 👍🏼👍🏼💪🏽
When you screw down the starnob, how those it look on the other side?
What makes you bolt, not spin around?
He probably used a carriage bolt which has a square section at the top of the threads just under the bolt head.
for safety sake NEVER wear gloves or have long sleeves while using moving tools, like a table saw. If your gloves caught on the blade it would pull your hand thru the blade before you ever had a chance to move - and take your hand off .Same with long sleeves
con cole one of my friends lost a thumb and a third off a finger because he had gloves on.
Hi, what blade are you using ?, look very weird the movement, like car wheels, front to back, back to front.
If you are referring to the table saw blade, its just a regular multi-use blade from Lowe's. I think the weird movement you are seeing is the video frame rate. As the blade speeds up, it looks like it's spinning in different directions until it sustains it's max speed.
Great jig. I agree with others, lose the gloves and long sleeves.
Thanks Ray!
Yep, I'm 3 years late, but never ever wear gloves when using a table saw. You can wear them when changing blades, etc, but not around a spinning blade.
The gloves looks nice, but not safe at all😩
Geronimo Mosquea I know, I know... Learning every day!
You do not practice good shop safety, I agree with Michael, loose clothing has no place around rotating sharp blades, Gloves? How can you truly feel what is going on? If the blade catches on your sleeves or gloves, say goodbye to your arm or fingers. No value to video if you cannot promote safety. Remember first time ever people watch these videos to learn. You do Not reach over spinning blades, period.
+Lee Fuller I completely agree with you and Michael. My safety practices could absolutely be improved upon. I will work harder in the future to set a better example for others.
RRR Woodworks It's not so much to be a good example (although that is important), it's more about saving your hands and arms. See the table saw versus clothing video (that's not the exact name, but you can find it) done by John Heisz, please.
Since your safety peanut gallery mob has not grown sufficiently large enough yet, allow me to add some wood to the fire: I once had a friend whose roommate's sister's pet beagle lose both its legs after using a cordless drill while wearing a long sleeve shirt (now it spends its days in a wheelchair). For God's sake, man, children are watching.
