Micro four thirds is not to be underestimated. It can even be superior in a few situations and genres. I have the G9 and G85 with a couple Olympus pro lenses, which I have used in commercial architecture work. Seriously, 90% of photographers don't need any more than a G7 or G85 can do.
I have G5 and G80 (which is G85 for EU market). There are some major differences, but not in the image quality (with exception of IBIS). Weather sealing, in-body IS. And then build quality. G5 next to the G80 feels like a toy, on the other hand G80 is heavier and somewhat bigger. And last difference is that G5 touch screen is somewhat weird and it needs applying certain pressure, whereas G80 screen feels like a phone and view finder on G5 has worse colors. Then there are minor things, like tripod plate blocking battery and card door on G5. Also I'm not sure if G5 has wifi which is handy as a remote shutter, video is worse, image bufer is smaller, i'm not sure if it has a timelapse.
M43 at 16mp or later 20mp is more than adequate for professional work. Two page spreads on high end periodicals easily obtainable with that amount of resolution.
A few years ago I bought the Lumix G7 as my first professional camera. A couple of years later I upgraded to the G 85 and a couple years later I upgraded to the G9 now I’m waiting for them to come out with a G9 Mark 2
The G7 is know to have shutter shock. In the menu there is a setting that if it detects shake it will auto switch to electronic shutter. My G7 video did crash with camera movement.
This is the camera I've used on my channel for years now. I've attempted to "upgrade" to a few other cameras a few times and always ended up sending them back (either the video quality wasn't good enough, or such a miniscule improvement that I couldn't justify the cost.) When I do my talking head shots, I set the camera in manual focus, and tap to focus on my phone with the Panasonic app. It eliminates the focus jumping, but for photos, I've never had a single problem with autofocus.
I have heard from a couple of people that they really like that particular sensor for the results that they get as they maintain that it has a unique rendering of images.
Nice video, love the effects and lighting effects of the silver G7. I miss mine. Maybe manual focus is your friend though, through no fault of your own, the telltale sign you're using the G7 is the periodic focus hunting. I'm sure you've noticed it but not a deal breaker. Great content so far, look forward to seeing the next one.
Just pulled the trigger yesterday on a G95. Glad to see this video's additional confirmation - that my choice of camera and format was the right one. 🌻
People do use the G7 for professional work. Particularly good for product shot and street. The Canon 5D MkII is quite a bit noisier than the G7, which may surprise you. The reason for this is a small sensor generates less heat that causes noise, and the Lumix sensor is mounted on a heat sink. The FF will have a wider angle of view for the same magnification, which gives a different look that cannot be replicated with a 4/3 and can be preferred for landscape. But FF lenses are a lot bigger and heavier.
The G7 sells for $500 in the USA at B&H. The only thing that stopped me from getting one was the G95 for only $200 more. The 20MP sensor, the 12-60mm lens, and the IBIS were well worth the extra cost. Both are great cameras.
@@Jimmyageek The G100 is a very good camera, but the G95 which costs a bit more, have more features. I considered the G100, but felt the extra features of the G95 were worth the extra cost. Both are great cameras.
@@stevievlogs_ Right now at B&H Photo, the G7 costs $597.99 with a 14-42mm lens. The G100 costs $547.99 with a 12-32 lens. The G7 has a few extra video modes, but the G100 has the key video modes you'll need. Even if the price were higher for the G100, it is a better camera for Vloging than the G7.

I ended up borrowing one of my friends a7si, my first time using full frame and I absolutely fell in love with the full frame look. I just ordered an s5, but I'll never forget how absolutely amazing the G7 is especially for the price.
would love to hear what your in depth thought about this, im a beginner so sometime (almost everytime) i blame the G7 itself lol. maybe some tips and trick to overcome the weakness of this camera!
Simple. It’s still a great camera. Same goes for the older Olympus MFT bodies, Canon EF-M bodies, other older Panasonic MFT bodies and Sony NEX series of cameras. I love the deluge of new bodies from Panasonic, Canon and Sony. It just means prices are gonna drop on the used market and make awesome gear, like this, more affordable.
I went for a M43 camera as well. With the sensor being half the size of a 24x36mm sensor, a truly equivalent lens weighs in at around 1/8th of its miniature format (nowadays called 'full frame'). I went for a different camera but the features on these things are astounding. I don't know if yours has a 'post-focus' function on it (image stacking to get greater depth of field) but that is pretty good. Also, the ability to process RAW images in any number of ways to produce whatever jpegs you want and the wireless comms with your smartphone to an app so that you can not only d/l the images but also, you can take pictures or video like this so you can place your camera somewhere and retire to a safe distance and see what it is seeing and take the shots you want. The only real reason to go above around the 16-24MP range is if you are going to be doing deep crops. One thing that these cameras are especially good at is the fact that they can do a software upgrade. My camera is on firmware version 2.0. I am eagerly awaiting the inclusion of converging verticals 'correction' that would use the camera's levelling sensors to produce a starting point. Like you say, M43 isn't quite 'compact' but it certainly doesn't weigh as much as a miniature format camera. Mine is a D-Lux 7, by the way.
Absolutley, Paul. The range of lenses you can choose from via the MFT's is great too. I was blown away and it is my first mirrorless too so the autofocus system feels soooo fast. I'm looking forward to having more of a play with it because there is so much going on within it. but at the moment it is definitely a 10/10 buy.

Considering how good the image quality is what would you say if I told you the sensor is 1/4 the size of full frame? It's true! A full frame sensor is 864 square mm and the m43 is 221 sq mm. I originally thought it was half the size too but in total area the full frame is actually 3.9 times larger. Just another example of how good the system is!
Thanks for this video I know not to use this camera for video using its auto focus! You can see it constantly hunting even after it locks focus. But I like the photos it produces and the light weight is definitely a welcomed feature.
Yeah, nice intro! You may notice that one of the weak points for Panasonic M43 is the autofocus when recording pieces to camera! I always set my G80 to manual focus for talking head stuff. Otherwise M43 (Pana or Olympus) is a great compromise for most photography / video.
@@benwootton With the G80, even with it set to MF, I can tap the screen to get it to automatically focus. So it's a kind of auto-manual focus! Really useful. I suspect the G7 can do that too.

If you're going to use autofocus make sure it's in 50/60p mode as there are more frames and it's easier for the camera to lock on to you. Also you didn't need autofocus in this specific situation. You could have used your phone as a monitor and the panasonic imaging app to lock on to focus. All in all the G7 is a great camera I own one since 2017. A trick with the movie AF for talking head is to switch recognition off, use a central focus area, put AFC and Continuous Focus on, along with Quick AF, and aim the camera at the subject. Now if its view is interrupted it will refocus on the product quickly, and then back to the subject when removed. This only works if the subject is stationary not running about, it is easily distracted, which is the point.

Would you necessarily recommend it for UA-cam video shoots? A lot of times my video is me interviewing people following them around so I need something that has good auto focus as well as can record for long periods of time because sometimes I’ll be shooting people in different clips for about two hours or so. cameras with full frame sensors are superior in low light conditions. But for me, the problem of low light can still be solved with lights when using an MFT camera, even a full frame sensor camera still needs light to build depth and composition. That's why I also bought the GH5 in 2022. Low price, high end features. I don’t necessarily have the biggest budget, so I’m curious if this might work for what I need at least for now
I’ve been shooting on my iPhone, but the battery on that die so quickly and it’s embarrassing to have to go and charge it to continue shooting
It depends really, if you're walking around vlogging yourself, I wouldn't recommend it as it doesn't have image stabilization. If it's going to be on a tripod, definitely get it.
@@benwootton I am vlogging myself and other people but I also keep my phone on a gimbal device while recording so I guess he tripod or gimbal would be suitable for that camera?
Yea unless you have an incredibly steady hand haha. Sometimes the camera shake is good for broll but for what you're filming I can't imagine it would be
@@benwootton okay any other cameras you’d be able to recommend around the price of this one for what I am trying to do content wise ?
@@joetriesitall would be hard to pick up a cheap IS camera. If you have good software for post process you'll be able to get rid of some shake
Y not G85..
If you get a $35 remote and set your focus to single, you will be in focus and you will not get that focus hunting.
What's your lens for G7? Most preferable
I only have one lens for it... The 25mm 1.7
@@benwootton Doesn't the LUMIX G 25MM F/1.7 ASPH have it's own built in auto-focus?
Yes it works hand in hand with the camera I believe
cameras with full frame sensors are superior in low light conditions.
But for me, the problem of low light can still be solved with lights when using an MFT camera, even a full frame sensor camera still needs light to build depth and composition.
That's why I also bought the GH5 in 2022. Low price, high end features. I only feel the constraints if I want to shoot in a landscape frame, I need a lens with a focal length range of 7-12mm which is expensive.
But i still didn't regret have an MFT camera.
I am looking to buy this camera, but i am confused between this and canon 1500d which one would you recommend
Panasonic g7 with dof adapter
@@travelfoodandnature4782 dof adaptor?
@@thehimalayan959 also called as speed booster ....it gives u some Bokeh effect and increase ur light gathering capacity of lense
@@travelfoodandnature4782 is lumix g7 worth buying in 2023 for photography
@@thehimalayan959 for serious photographers who have budget no ...
But if u are a casual photographer and want a micro third system then its a great camera at a great price with good video functionality too
if the camera is so good, why does the video seem to show the focus hunting at times (even if these are short periods).
1:40 How are you not shooting in 4K but uploading in 4K ??
Haha homework check ✅ I use movavi so it allows me to render in 4k but you're right I shoot in 2.7k or something like that
Wrong video this is 1080p but yes o still do the 4k render
@@benwootton Nice ! Which lens do you prefer with Limix G7 ? And which profile ?
@withlove1887 I use the 25mm 1.7 which is actually a 3.4* because on the M43 you lose half of the F-stop. I use presents I create in lightroom
I was also considering this camera but went with the G85 for it's waterproofness and a bevy of additional features and not that much bigger.
I forgot - the intro is about as bad as they get.
Haha cheers Paul, it's not for everyone but I like it so that's all that matters I guess
I like the g85 more than g7 but g7 will get you 4k
Light but quite bulky
A lot of focus seeking......🤦♀️
That intro... with all the same one angle of the camera with slight crops to it? Yeah, that definitely does not deserve a Like ☠️
Thanks for the comment it means so much
Masochism?
Please elaborate

Wow, very very bad focusing on your video.. so much breathing..
Fully aware of this, there have been many comments 😂
crap
🤣 thank you mate 👍
My G7 stutters when the camera is moving (24FPS)
I don't know why... no smooth image movement😮💨
There is a way to fix this... I'll come back to you. There is a setting where it doesn't affect what you see
@@benwootton This means your G7 is shuttering too?
@@harrybrown7680 it's not but I'm pretty sure there is a way to fix it
I'm still using G85. IBIS worth it
