No one will ever have the talent of yesterdays real musicians. They sell their souls to the devil today and for the price of their soul they get maybe 5 years of Soundstage technology to make them sound good enough to mimic talent.

The twang in his voice is killer!!!! The stretch and slide and twang just amazing!!!
Always loved his songs, as a kid riding with my dad in the 70's and 80's and he came on the radio, just loved his songs!
My dad like me are car guys and I went with him on weekends to either see my grandparents then stopped at his buddy's house and music was on etc... the aftermarket 8 track and speakers, then cassette player and a nice amplifier to make it kick, hit harder and riding in his 1970 Dodge Charger R/T was killer back then...Then add the car burning rubber grabbing 2nd gear and tires chirping and broke loose again...
Good Times and Memories dad was a drag racer,90 year sold today and still has his 70 Charger, I also bought a 68still crank George Jones! Dad never put us kids in danger, just nice open no traffic roads and a few red light drag races, and we usually won, only lost to his buddies more modified 67 Barracuda 440 duel 4bbl and 4.56 gear mid 9 second 1/4-mile car... Okay, sorry to bore some and lose some but Hot cars, Great Music goes hand in hand... It kept me sober no booze and no drugs throughout my life!!! He also had a more sedate brand new every 2 years 4wd Ramcharger as a daily driver but had some kick, was not totally stock either lol...

The older I get, the more sentimental this song becomes! And for me, it goes beyond all those wonderful old country legends. I think back to old friends of my parents that I grew up knowing, old family members who have gone on before us. Whose gonna fill their shoes ?!?!? This song makes me think of my dad so much. I don’t think “anyone” can fill any of their shoes! We have our memories to hold on to, and wonderful songs like this, that we can listen to, that still pulls at our heart strings !

I read that his wife said that the day he died he had not been talking at all for a while and they knew he’s time was almost up. He suddenly opened his eyes and smiled and and said “ Hi, I’ve been waiting for you. I’m George Jones..”. Then he closed his eyes and went to Heaven. I hope I get to meet him when I get there.

I try to sing along whenever I hear this song, but I'm never able to because I'm too choked up. I grew up on this music, and sadly, remember when we lost most of them (pretty much all of them except for Patsy Cline and Hank Williams and those few that are still with us). When Buck Owens and Merle Haggard passed, I was pretty torn up because I've spent a large part of my life in and around Bakersfield.
There are a few that have continued to carry the torch, but sadly, most can't be heard on the radio these days. Randy Travis is probably the most notable example.
Most of what is heard on the radio these days is forgettable. I probably wouldn't even think about most of it if I never heard it again.

One of the greatest nostalgia songs ever! As I’m getting older, these are the songs I want to listen to, they remind my of my childhood. When all we had was one 13 inch tv connected to 3 channels by an old rusted antenna, and momma played our Hugh upright radio all day long. Well those things are gone now, lost mom this last March 2022. Live seems so different now, and I find myself less motivated by new things and super excited about the old ones! All you wonderful people who around my age can surely understand my feelings! God bless the world, as we so need it! These younger people will never understand what a awesome world we grew up in!
