This is THE most underrated song for both Ray Charles and Willie Nelson. Their talents blended perfectly.
Id have to give the "Most Underrated Willie Nelson Song" distinction to "The Great Divide" but this is my favorite from him. It's incredible.
It also puts me into tears at times. Ah, Granddad Whyatt, I miss you, you damned best Grazier in Australia at your prime... well my opinion, none of them were as cool and had good access to Japanese markets in the 80's. Us grandkids loved you tonnes. You won't be chasing the devil's herd across the sky wherever you be, you'll be teaching them how to do it properly so the damned cattle don't escape in the first place.

I saw Willie around 1978 in Georgia with my oldest brother. A wonderful memory for me. A fight broke out just ahead of me, when the man rated back his elbow caught me in the mouth and busted my lip. I fell and big brother pulled me out from the bottom of the pile . Willie sent his personal security guy to check on me. I was bleeding but fine. Autographed tee shirt and I was on my way. Been a fan ever since.
Dad and I saw Willie do a benefit concert after hurricane Floyd in little ol' Bound Brook, N.J. in 1999 I believe it was.
My mom loved this song. After 4 years of chemotherapy, surgery, pain, she was called home. I’ll see you up there.

My father died in 2013 at the age of 91. He was an incredible man and a wonderful father. Last month (Feb, 2015) I found an old tape cassette in his house. I brought it to a transfer studio to see what was on it and when they popped it in the player, like a gift from heaven, what I hear is my father singing Seven Spanish Angels. I was stunned and started to cry. He only sang the chorus, but he did so clearly and beautifully (with no accompaniment). I had never heard the song before so when I came home I immediately googled it and found this video. Thank you so much for posting..... my father must have loved this song and after listening to it I'm not surprised. What a treasure. I believe this was a message to me that he is in heaven.

They don't necessarily mix because of their styles/temperaments...but man do they make music. Willie is so in the music, and he does it his way that he doesn't pick up Ray's cues when they are offered, but then he catches them and SOARS with that voice. So damn beautiful, Ray and Willie.
My Dad told me Ray Charles was the biggest Addict of All,, but struggled to get veins in the end .. these 2 are Legends in my Eyes. I think Willie Nelson tried Heroin too but preferred Weed , I think they compliment each other so beautifully.. One last Rodeo for my Dad ..
