I lost my Mom in September of 2017. When she passed my Dad had the entire hospital floor crying. They were married 58yrs. He sat there and talked to her about old times, good times, bad times and not to worry. One of the last things he said was "I'll love you till I die". My Dad passed away 6 weeks later. Im 58 but now I cry like an 8yr old when I hear this song. They were huge George Jones fans and growing up, I never paid attention to it although I had heard it 1000 times because I had my own music. It's one of those things where you hear music, but you're not listening. While I was burying my parents I was diagnosed with kidney cancer. Because of treatment, operations and recovery I didn't have time to grieve my loss because I was quite busy so to speak. About 3 months later I was still on sick leave from work and I was sitting in my garage listening to the classic country station my parents listened to all the time. "He stopped loving her today" came on and that opening line hit me like a sledge hammer. I dropped to my knees and I cried uncontrollably to the point that I couldn't catch my breath. My entire life the song had no meaning to me until I remembered what Dad told her on her death bed. My wife knew something was wrong as she came out but she thought I was hurt. I explained Dad's last conversation before he passed and she understood. We all have our way and our time of how we grieve. Sometimes the process starts immediately and sometimes it waits for something to trigger it. I only pray that I have as many years with my wife that my parents had.
I read your story and it touched my heart. It reminded me of my mom and dad. They are both with the Lord and it grieves me when I think about them. I have a son in heaven and a sister!! It’s true that something will trigger the hurt and grief that you feel.

Oh really so touched right now. Your story touched my heart and your love for your husband and your family shines through beautifully despite the tough times
Alan Jackson. One of my favorites. He is the only one that could pull this off. Almost as good as good as George. This could be about my first love 50 years ago. 72 now and still think of her. But I love my wife of 50 years and the beautiful children and grandchildren she gave me. Just nothing like that first love.
Alan Jackson is the ONLY one that should be allowed to cover this iconic masterpiece. This was the ultimate tribute to George Jones. I'm sure he was pleased with Alan.
A perfect tribute! And perfectly sang as only he can! ❤❤❤ Man, tears were streaming down my face. It's been two years, but this is the first I have seen it. This song reminds me of my wife who died and how I won't stop loving her until I breathe my last. I now understand the intense grief that George endured without his wife. I'm almost happy for him.
The effort necessary to maintain the composure that Alan displayed during this performance was evident as he removed his hat to deliver the last line. Thank you, Alan, for your strength and talent. RIP, George.

Putting myself into Allan's boots , I know I couldn't hold myself together to get through this song . I have lost my best life time friend lately and I couldn't get up to the mike to honour my friend let alone sing his favourite song . I know exactly how Allan felt as he honoured his dear friend . Total respect, from an 80 year old country fan .

Your tears are a part of a river of tears that were shed when Allan sang to George at the funeral memorial . And tears are still being shed today as I watched this very emotional tribute to George Jones .
It warms my heart when I read all these wonderful comments about this great singer. I'm old enough to remember the true country singers of so long ago, like Hank Snow, who never gets enough credit for the songs he recorded in his life. Alan Jackson, to me, is up there with the best of these old-time, true country singers. He certainly is a gift to people like me who love and remember the country singers of so long ago. I may be old, but not dead - he's one good-looking guy too, so always a pleasure to watch him sing.
@@jameslawson7336 I'm doing fine today, James - the day my family comes over to visit me. Love my Saturdays. Hope you're doing okay too. We country music lovers, especially Alan Jackson fans, should be friends with each other, since how many today have even heard the likes of Hank Snow or Kitty Wells! I grew up with the radio in our home always tuned in to a country music station. Once a fan, always a fan. Have a great day, James.
Alan was the right man for this. Although not a country fan I do respect all music genres...this was gold...rip George, a real music legend, peace all and respect from a humble northerner.
One of the last great true country music stars paying tribute to the late great George Jones which will always be my favorite artist....Your contribution and influence is immeasurable George.
I was a child at the Missouri State Fair wondering around with my sister (just 2 years older), when we heard this wonderful voice from the Budweiser tent. A skinny blonde kid that my sister thought was a good looking guy. Turned out to be Alan Jackson, before he was famous. We sat outside that area listening until he stopped playing songs. Wasn't until "Chatahoochie" that we mad the connection. What a man, what an example, what a career.
The same man that sung George Jones’ “Choices” when the jerks in charge of air time told Jones to cut the song short. Alan Jackson was top of the charts at the time so he was allowed to sing for as long as he wanted. He stopped his own song halfway through to sing Choices and left the stage immediately after. The guy has balls of steel and an incredible amount of reverence for George Jones. There couldn’t have been a better pick for this song
The name is Mr. ALAN JACKSON!! This version of that wonderful song had me in tears all the way through it. I have mad respect for you Mr. Jackson for keeping your composure and singing this song perfectly as you did..I know you and George had a bond that was unbreakable and I remember how you went to bat for him with the song Choices on stage that time. You deserve to be the country music legend that you are sir and I promise you that heavens were just elated as you dang this song in it's truest fashion. God bless you for what you have done sir. You, much like George, represent true country music that just doesn't exist in these performers today!
My dads favorite singer and favorite song. Memories😢 forever. Oh how my dad would sing this at the top of his lungs. I could hear it in my head the day we buried him Dec 2012. Miss you so much dad.
In 12 days it will be a year since my husband of 43 years passed away and this song has me in floods of tears. Except I believe he does still love me ❤️🩹

Only a legend like Alan Jackson could sing this song as good as George Jones.
Amen 😢I'm crying listening to this
Don't know how he kept it together, but he did. Mad respect for Alan!
I totally agree. I could see his shoulders shaking as he walked away. Only by the help of God. 🙏🏻✝️🕯️
Goddamn song makes my eyes sweat damn near every time I hear it anyway. No way in hell I could imagine doing it at a funeral, let alone George's.

Ooof, what a beautiful tribute. For those who don’t know, this is the song that got Alan Jackson noticed back in 85.
This was played at my nieces funeral last week . 😢 past of crohn's diease . Age 31
My condolences.

Alan Jackson sang this song like the wonderful George Jones. God bless them both.
Oh really so touched right now. Your story touched my heart and your love for your husband and your family shines through beautifully despite the tough times
A master work. Pure perfection it’s difficult to imagine the emotions the audience and fans felt when Alan performed this epic work of George’s.
Comments like this are priceless, Thank you, it's nice meeting you here. Thank you John God bless you
Alan Jackson. One of my favorites. He is the only one that could pull this off. Almost as good as good as George. This could be about my first love 50 years ago. 72 now and still think of her. But I love my wife of 50 years and the beautiful children and grandchildren she gave me. Just nothing like that first love.

Very pleased with Alan song's
I love this song and nobody could ever pay a Tribute to George Jones like Alan Jackson they are the best Traditional Country singers ever. 💞💞♥️🎶

Only Alan could have done this song at George's service. Can you imagine the pressure?
If this song doesn’t bring you to tears…..you’ve never been in love.

Hello Darlene how are you doing today?
Putting myself into Allan's boots , I know I couldn't hold myself together to get through this song . I have lost my best life time friend lately and I couldn't get up to the mike to honour my friend let alone sing his favourite song . I know exactly how Allan felt as he honoured his dear friend . Total respect, from an 80 year old country fan .
Could have been a more appropriate song picked.

Hello,how are you doing today
It warms my heart when I read all these wonderful comments about this great singer. I'm old enough to remember the true country singers of so long ago, like Hank Snow, who never gets enough credit for the songs he recorded in his life. Alan Jackson, to me, is up there with the best of these old-time, true country singers. He certainly is a gift to people like me who love and remember the country singers of so long ago. I may be old, but not dead - he's one good-looking guy too, so always a pleasure to watch him sing.

Hello,how are you doing today..?
Alan Jackson - such a class act. An incredible singer - with a career that only a handful of country singers, including George Jones, can match.
Alan was the right man for this. Although not a country fan I do respect all music genres...this was gold...rip George, a real music legend, peace all and respect from a humble northerner.
Alan Jackson is my best county singer
If this isn't the best song ever written, I'll eat that hat. Thanks AJ
George Jones didn't like it. He said he would sing that morbid son of a bitch if they wanted him to.
One of the last great true country music stars paying tribute to the late great George Jones which will always be my favorite artist....Your contribution and influence is immeasurable George.

@Hello there, how are you doing this blessed day?
I was a child at the Missouri State Fair wondering around with my sister (just 2 years older), when we heard this wonderful voice from the Budweiser tent. A skinny blonde kid that my sister thought was a good looking guy. Turned out to be Alan Jackson, before he was famous. We sat outside that area listening until he stopped playing songs. Wasn't until "Chatahoochie" that we mad the connection. What a man, what an example, what a career.
Hello there, how're you doing today....??

Hi Lora💐💐
Even when theses great persons put a knee on the ground , they still always the greatest people on earth
I Guess you're a country MUSIC lover?
Thank you Great information 🌻

That looked like the hardest song he ever had to sing. Love Alan Jackson, love George Jones, love that good old country music. ❤️
You should see the tribute he did for Jimmy Buffet. He wouldn’t take off his sunglasses and you could tell he was crying in his voice ❤️
Jeez,that is beyond a tribute,he's so great.
How Alan performed that without shedding a tear, I'll never know. Powerful!
He was dying on the inside, you can see it in his eyes. Paying tribute to his hero, his friend, his mentor.
