I can almost say that Gord’s songs were the background to my life from the first moment I heard his music. The radio was always on in our kitchen and my mother would sing along whilst ironing the laundry. And dance at the same time, something she tried to hide. Our dog actually “sang” along, making doggy noises in time to Mom’s song of the day. My iPod is full of Gord’s music, and he’s my choice of music when things aren’t going well. Gordon Lightfoot is one of Canada’s favourite sons! Miss those new songs, but love him for the ones he made while still on Earth! 🇨🇦🖖🏻🇨🇦
Godspeed Orillia, R.I.P. Gordon Meredith Lightfoot 11/17/1938-5/01/2023 Dear Gordon, Many souls make their mark but it takes a legend to be remembered for Time eternal. I grew up on your music up here in the Pacific Northwest, A stones throw from the Canadian border. You’ve always been here for me and I will miss you sir.🎶
I've been a Gordon Lightfoot fan since his "Sundown" album came out in the early 1970s. I came across, during a Canadian canoe trip in 1983, a note he and three paddling companions left the year before. We found it, among other trip notes, in a cairn on the lip of Kazan Falls on the Kazan River, Northwest Territories. I left it where I found it. And his note, as well as mine and others', were eventually published in a book of trip notes from the Thelon and Kazan rivers. I saw Gordon Lightfoot in concert at Boise, ID, in the late 1980s. I drove six hours to see him. Wonderful concert. Well worth the drive. I understand he has some ongoing health issues. I wish you the very best, Mr. Lightfoot. Your music continues to be an important part of my life.
My brother Al LOVED Gordon Lightfoots' music! Al and I used Togo to Gords concerts back in the day. I always think of my beloved brother Alan, who passed away from Cancer several years ago, whenever I hear a Gordon Lightfoot tune.❤️ Thankyou Gordon for your music!!!
We were was going to see Gordon in Orrillia in 2002, and had to cancel at the last minute. We didn't know that he wouldn't be there due to his collapse. We love Gordon Lightfoot!
Thirty years ago I took my parents to see one of his performances, they spoke no English but only took the first song and both of my parents fell in love with his music, his voice, his style. At the end of his performance I was a bit embarrassed when they kept screaming way loud....OTRA...OTRA...(another one, another one) I loved it. They bought his CD and we listened to it together.
Totally a joy to behold! My lifelong music hero! Such a beautiful soul dedicated his life to making music for the rest of us to relate to! I love you, Gordon! Your music brings peace to me when there is no peace. ❤️❤️. Keep on keeping on! The world needs you and your fans will always adore you.
I grew up on his music and he's still my favorite artist today. My dad used to have cold on the shoulder and gords gold vol 2 playing every night while I was going to bed and all the time in the car. He really inspires me and it's sad that he really doesnt get the acclaim he deserves.
Just saw Gordon at Nashville's Ryman Auditorium on March 12 2017, with the band, singing in fine form, entertaining a lively crowd. I've been loyally seeing shows by the bard since I was 19 in 1978, and picking up the records since well before then.
Right on! I used to go camping often along the shorelines in the wilds of Alaska and by myself, next to a bonfire sipping some whisky and chasing it beer while listening to Gordon lightfoot's music..I suddenly wasn't alone anymore. dang the memories.
Lightfoot wrote more classic tunes per album than most songwriters did in a lifetime. Amazing talent, and still under-appreciated, but that's the Canadian way, eh?
RIP to a Canadian Icon...my summers in the 1000 Islands were spent in New York listening to Canadian radio....for those of us with boats in this area...we know....
Finally got to see him on that tour in 2013 in El Paso, Texas. Tho the Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald happened in November of 1977. We came from Germany to Michigan when my mother in law died then. I remember reading the papers and seeing the reports on the news.
Gordon Lightfoot was a real hottie in the clip at 0:25; with his curly iridescent dark blond/light brown hair! That, and the slight twang in his voice! That clip is from the BBC special taped in the spring of 1971 before "Summer Side of Life" came out, when Lightfoot was 32.
Yeah a lot of gals took notice. When it started to take it's toll on his personal life, he told his management no one from outside is allowed in the hotel rooms. But they still got in.
I think it's time the Hollywood writers and producers find a cast and crew to make a movie about The Edmund Fitzgerald incident. Lightfoot could do all the music for the movie and I'm sure it would do super in the Theaters!
Gord..........Ya had me at "If you could read my mind'......I can go on and on.......Totally amazing.........Sorry....Just think you make everything soooo much better,,,,,,,,,,
When that artery burst at 63, took him over 2 years to recover, it was in his stomach. Lost a lot of weight and stayed thin. Probably changed his eating habits. And they intubated him as well changing his singing voice. He was fortunate to survive.
RIP, Mr. Lightfoot. You brought us beauty and articulated our sorrow.

Lightfoot is part of the fabric of my life musically for 52 years. Stunning, memorable genus.

Gordon Lightfoot is a true legend and will always be one of my all time favorite song writers !!
Gordon Meridith Lightfoot will ALWAYS be the very BEST singer/songwriter out there, a true Canadian gift of a man throughout the world.
We will miss you, Gordon!
My favorite male artist. I've seen him in concert more times than I can count.
Gordon Lightfoot sings the kind of music that will last long long after he is gone many years after we are gone his music is simply timeless
Thanks for your beautiful songs Gordon.

What a tremendous story. It reminds me of my aunt who spoke very little English at the time but would laugh at I Love Lucy.
Gordon, You've been making me smile for almost 50 years now. Thanks for the great music!
My favorite singer ever!

The only artist that I love every one of his song's
I always hate when someone asks me what my favorite Gordon Lightfoot song is......all of them...
Right on! I used to go camping often along the shorelines in the wilds of Alaska and by myself, next to a bonfire sipping some whisky and chasing it beer while listening to Gordon lightfoot's music..I suddenly wasn't alone anymore. dang the memories.
The "Bard" of Canada! Is an international treasure for the world to appreciate and love. May God bless this man and his loved ones!
Gordon is the reason I started playing the guitar.

They sure can ‘stick in your head’. Best song writer ever, with a voice to match.
I never realized that so many of the childhood tunes I remember are in fact his songs 😂
Great talent, great guy.
Terrific piece.Thank you so much!
Gordon Paints with words, he's a poet/songwriter as was his great friend Phil Ochs.....
A TRUE LEGEND!!!!!!!
Found! This Legend lives on
My favourite and always will be
I love him!
Damn, at age 75 his voice is better than mine has ever been, even in my fantasies.
Great segment - Thank You and God Bless Gordie
They've been stuck in my mind for 69 years and still counting! Ron Jones.
Finally got to see him on that tour in 2013 in El Paso, Texas. Tho the Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald happened in November of 1977. We came from Germany to Michigan when my mother in law died then. I remember reading the papers and seeing the reports on the news.
November 10 1975
The fire still burns. A great Canadian. Up there with Glenn Gould and Oscar Peterson.
Up there "with"? I have to disagree. Lightfoot stands alone.
A small clarification: If You Could Read My Mind was written a couple years PRIOR to Gord’s breakup with his first wife. He felt it coming.

Wow! Thank you!
Great
Canada is a pale boring version of itself without Gordon Lightfoot.
2 thumbs up for this ....thanks for sharing!

Do a movie about him! What a story!!!!!

April 2023 👍❤️🇨🇦
we begin with a warning songs by Gordon light foot have a tendency to stick in your head
I cut my teeth on songwriting with him.
dude
Poor Gordon is cachexic.

I saw him at the Front Row Theater in Cleveland in 1990. He refused to sing “Carefree Highway” for some reason 🙂
