I'm 61 and So Hyang reduced me to rubble with her rendition of this song. I think she is the best singer in the world. And she is so tiny! Less than 5'4" tall and all of 100 pounds! How can such a magnetic stage presence and incredible voice come from such a petite package? She almost literally holds her audience in the palm of her hand and doesn't let them go until she says "You are free now." I don't want to be free--I want to hear more from her! She is out of this world! A real gift from God! ;)
And she freely admits that her "throat" is from God and that it is the Holy Spirit that is doing the singing. Moreover, she always dresses like a lady for a stage performance and behaves like a woman should! What a humble talent and excellent example for all of the kids in this world.
So Hyang is truly the house owner , she has a spirit she conveys so overwhelmingly with her compassion in her songs that create an emotional and spiritual experience in every performance. Listening to her is uplifting and cleansing . Welcome to her church....
My favorite part, oddly enough, is the very end - where she softly speaks to us, “I will lay me”...that moment of tenderness, makes the next note even more spectacular. 👑

I've heard it said that singers are instruments through which tbe heavens can sing. Perhaps. Not only does this amazing talent sound angelic, but it is clear to see she engages every aspect of her physical being to bring forth this message.
Love your metaphor about owning the house. Sohyang's gospel root is unmistakably prevalent in her rendition of this classic. I was beyond moved when I first heard it. Also enjoyed your genuine reaction and metaphysical remarks about the performance. BTW, Sohyang was about 37 years young when she took this stage :-) She started out as a gospel singer more than 20 years ago.
I was ready to talk about how sweet and pure her voice is, then she let go. Wow. We played the original at my 17 year old brother's funeral. He loved the song and their version is special to me, but this was well done.
I've listened to this many many times and I always get chillbumps...she's PHENOMENAL!! Obviously music is MY DRUG of choice and with many genres...it just reaches way down deep and sooths my soul. I just knew you would enjoy this. IMO Dimash and her are near the top of the heap all-time right now for vocalists. She appeared on a contest show, 'King of the Mask Singer'. Where she had the highest number of consecutive wins for a female contestant. Prior to that, she had been a gospel singer in Korea for the past 20 years or so. Following a bout with uterine cancer shortly after she married at 20 which left her unable to have children, she shunned fame dedicating her voice to the church.

This is one of the greatest renditions of this song, and also SoHyang is definitely one of the greatest vocalist in this world. I hope you keep reacting to her to check her incredible vocal abilities. Technically and artistically most powerful vocalist ever. I highly recommend her "Arirang alone" and "Everyone" from KBS 'Inmmortal songs'.

Big Diva sound isn't my favorite style, but that was well done. Simon and Garfunkel created a whole catalogue of songs that sit at the top of the pile. Always something interesting when the notification bell rings for you.
Yes I feel the same. I just hear the same voice time and again. Mariah Carey style screeching. Ugh and Whitney Houston! Always too much! It is far better softer but they always have to build it up to horrendous screaming in tune. Then it hurts my ears and makes me back off from wanting to listen. I prefer unique sounds but this is so generic nowadays. Skilled for sure but it's like Pixar - every character is too similar. Those characters just irritate me now.
@@Samua3 Yes, listening to Mariah Carey wears me out in no time with all her (seemingly) pointless runs up and down the scale that do nothing more than show her ability but don't add anything enjoyable or gripping to the song.
So Hyang, on the other hand, has such emotional content in her performances that she takes you to another plane of existence! And she does all of her own musical arrangements of these songs! What a talent! I am just so happy to sit down and listen to her sing and perform--it is like she descended from Heaven to show us all how it is done. Wow!!!

If you want to be blown away some more you might like to try her version of 'Arirang Alone' from Immortal Songs 2 next 'Lean On Me' also from Immortal Songs 2 or 'I Have Nothing' Whitney cover DMC festival or since it's December her 'Oh Holy Night' from I Am a Singer2. Only do beware of MBC, they like to slap Copywrite on people for her live performances.

I love listening to Sohyang singing. She is a cancer survivor and devoted Christian. She doesn't go for wealth and fame but to inspire and comfort people with her singing. She does all the arrangement of her songs.

Not finding that you did Simon and Garfunkle other song: Sound of Silance by Disturbed (pick the video, it tells the story) Simon said, this is the way the song should be sung. I liked S & G song but I love Disturbeds' version so much more. I think the cover is better and Simon agrees.

Trying to be fair here. A lot of yelping here and screaming to the high notes. Elvis felt this and when you here his version you will understand. He feels it and it goes right to your soul. I felt no emotion from this just a bunch of some big notes that were over the place. Listen to the king’s version.

John Horan sorry pal. As indicated, nice notes, didn’t feel it like some others indicated. Watch the King sing it in 1970 and see what technique and feeling really is. Of course, he had the pipes to hit all the high notes but his feeling and interpretation was second to none. Like what you like, I could care less. When they call her the Queen text me back.
