I sobbed. My grandmother had passed and I wasn't feeling much of anything and hadn't been able to cry. I saw that scene for the first time and just sobbed.

That final scene was so well acted. The hurt in Lenny’s expression was everything. It was like a sad puppy and that little gesture he does by putting his hand over his mouth, bruh.
I've read a superbe analysis about the episode 5 of season 2 when Midge went to a date with Benjamen and take him to Lenny's show. When Lenny and Midge spoke, he was always putting his hand over his mouth and the girl who wrote the article explained that a hand over the mouth means the words we hide and do not allowed ourselves to say. Luke's gesture is so powerful, he doesn't even need words to make Lenny's feelings clear. From platonic friendly dialogues that the Palladino's wrote, he made them all about loving someone and take the show ! How marvelous it is to see that just thanks to the actors acting's choice and their understanding of their characters, they're actually creating a story in the original story, creating a new world of possibility. It's just beautiful to witness

this is one of those relationships that seems so right that you feel suspicious of it.

I absolutely love Luke Kirby’s portrayal of Lenny Bruce and think the show seriously underutilized him in the newest season. I like the idea of Lenny and Midge being a couple but I’m curious if they’re going to shy away from the fact that the show is currently only 6ish years away from Lenny Bruce dying of a morphine overdose on a bathroom floor in Hollywood.
I think they should have a season were they see were it goes and then let them realize they are better off as friends

I think they’re gonna continue using him in the minimal guest appearance they are, but he he’s gonna continue playing an integral part in Midge’s story. They’re definitely going to use him for a tear jerker reaction from the audience when it’s time to kill him off.

When i first watched this scene i had to stop and take a break because it was such a good scene
I was panting by the end of that scene lol
This date was just a safe escape for both of them. But there's only so far they can take it since they really do have a bond of trust and admiration deeper than any hook up. I think Lenny feels safe with her and she feels comfortable with him without ever having to mask herself. I guess they always wondered could they ever be anything more considering the feelings they have, and this little date was a test.

It was a successful experiment and it should happen, they have perfect chemistry.
I don't want to spoil it for anybody but there's an interesting twist in season 4 in their relationship and for one party it was like a wake up call or shattering a pretty dream and i'm wondering how that's going to affect their relationship moving forward though there is a hint its going to be resolved soon. Fingers crossed!

Their chemistry is so palpable. Them staring at one another in that lounge made me hold my breath.
You just know if they were together it would be that kind of raw, heartbreaking love that makes you want to melt into puddle.
I like their bond. Lenny is a good mentor and a good friend. Can't belive he will die so soon. Lenny Bruce is a sad clown. And you can feel this sadness in his eyes.
There are a lot of sad clowns. After Robin Williams died, I remember reading an interview with a comedian (a pretty famous one I think, but his name escapes me now), who said that a lot of comedians suffer from depression. But since they can't cheer themselves up, they do the next best thing and try to make everyone else laugh.
He said as much when he talked to Midge before going on to the Steve Allen Show - he said he was tired and working to pay lawyers. It was heartbreaking, even given his addictions and dysfunction.
I wish Luke Kirby had a fictional role so he could actually end up with Midge, their chemistry is insane

This has been my favorite scene of season three. The way he looks at her... and he sadness after the before I’m dead scene. Fabulous actor!
One thing I admire about Midge's character - she does not ever, for one single nanosecond, pretend she's not attractive. No false modesty, no "who, me?" or "aw, go on." Twenty-something years after this scene, she'll hear a song by the Waitresses and know exactly what they mean. :-)
I didn’t think this season was quite as good as the first two, but I’ve watched this part probably ten times. Only scene that made me tear up. He is phenomenal.

Okay but I can't believe no one has pointed out the parallels between these scenes and the ones she had with Benjamin the previous season. The dancing (Ben in the catskills, Lenny here). Walking to the guy's place together at night after a date (the contrast of Ben's mansion vs Lenny's hotel). Talking about permanence. Talking about going inside together. All the way down to the "I thought you were sensational" line that BOTH OF THEM said to her verbatim. They're showing that each guy is at the opposite end of the spectrum for her - too safe and domestic VS too wild and unreliable. 😭
That’s a great observation; I felt myself comparing Midge’s reactions to Benjamin and Lenny, as well as Ben and Lenny’s different approach to the same situation, but didn’t realize how that was a reflection of the intentional storytelling by the show. Can’t believe they said the same exact words to Midge about her stand-up as well. I can’t help to feel sad for Lenny because he held off commenting about her set in order to spend more time with her and still got rejected in the end. I wish Midge would see him more than a mentor and a flirt.
That’s why I ship then both but I prefer Lenny. However in these days Benjamin would be the socially acceptable choice. I feel like Lenny and midge has more chemistry though.

Dear Amazon Prime, I love your content but this is almost criminal... First Andrew Scott as Priest and now Luke Kirby as Lenny Bruce??! Don't develop a habit of teasing us with the most promising romances and then snatching it away from us!
There's no hope for these two. Rachel and Amy both agree that Midge and Lenny are better as friends and tbh from a storyline perspective even I agree... Just like it was the right thing for Fleabag and Priest as well... But I can't get over how good this episode was... Their chemistry is off the charts and the way they talk to each other...It's like nobody else exists and there's no one else that gets their wit and intelligence and smartness.
And I hate it when Lenny says "Before I'm dead"... It kinda makes me feel this could be a tragic point to come back to when and after Lenny dies unexpectedly (if the show chooses to show that far,that is).
Luke and Rachel deserve all the awards. They're both so incredible!

Same here. It breaks my heart so badly...but somehow I think that Midge was the one who was waiting for Lenny to kiss her. Then, when he did nothing she get disappointed and go away from him. I think Lenny was scared because he knows that his darkness will bring her down. It's just my opinion.

She was obviously deeply interested. Actually she was waiting for a move from him when she was looking at him in front of the door. Generally in popular movies, that is the exact moment when they would have kissed each other. But he was afraid of something. She felt his embarrassment and decided to go away. He didn't even try to make her stay...
Now, I'm so curious to know much about his reasons. I really like this character. So fascinating, witty and tortured at the same time...

But either way, I think her point was that it would be great to see that character a lot more than we do, and that the Joel-to-Lenny-Bruce ratio is torturous! And I totally agree with that.
The actor (Luke Kirby) does such a compelling job of it... And I think it's a good balance to have a character with that kind of cool edge--and I'm not sure the show would pull that off believably if he weren't based on a real person with so much backstory.

The scene where he comes in at the bar may be my favorite scene of season 3. So simple but so detailed at the same time. I had to watch it twice because it gave me chills lol.
It’s so frustrating because there’s no chemistry with Joel compared to this, but the show runners don’t want to peruse this at all
Wow! I'm in tears. Knowing how his life ends makes this much more powerful. However, the chemistry between these 2 actors does make you wish they hadn't made him a real life person and let it evolve into a real love story
As someone whose love language is not touch or sweet affirmations, I am such a fan of the nuances that these two characters have. That scene where they were walking back to the hotel. The things UNSAID in that scene were screaming at the viewer. This show is so well-written. Much love from the Philippines!

The dancing scene was one of the softest most romantic things I’ve ever seen, their eyes and body language were the scene and I loved it so much! Like my heart freaking jumped out of its place the entire time!!!!
Also, I don’t want them to be in a relationship, maybe sneaky lovers every time they meet because their chemistry has to be translated physically at one point, but their friendship and support of each other shouldn’t be ruined by them being in a relationship.
His last line is a brilliant foreshadowing for what's in the future for him.

I showed up a bit late to the Marvelous Mrs. Maisel party, but I'm all in now! Binged all three seasons last week and I have to agree with what everyone else commented. Every time Luke Kirby shows up in scenes, I'm thrilled. The chemistry and electricity between Lenny and Midge is off the charts! I keep re-watching this one episode from season three over and over, just for the scenes between Rachel Brosnahan and Luke Kirby (also because it's at the Fountainebleu and I'm a Miami native) and I'm waiting for Amazon to send me a message asking if I have an issue! LOL Such jaw-dropping, breathtaking chemistry going on in those scenes. I can't wait for season four and YES, more Midge and Lenny!

y'all do you realise that ASP uses the "first slow-dance" scenes to signal when a potential couple is about to realise their feelings? in gilmore girls, it wasn't until lorelai and luke slow-danced to 'reflecting light' when she realised she wanted to be with him. midge and lenny's first slow-dance has THE SAME VIBE AS THAT SCENE. people, we are getting something!

Came here to relive the magic of this scene only to find out Lenny is based off a real person with a tragic story and ending. Not sure if I should be grateful for the chance to mentally prepare myself for his eventual death or be disappointed I can’t go on being blissfully unaware and hoping Midge and him end up together 😢

I watched season 3 today, it's how I spent my Christmas Day while my son is at his dads this christmas. Got through 6 episodes :)
I love the way he says 'Hello' to Midge then 'Goodbye' while subtly moving his head toward that guy then the guy just walks off. I replayed it a few times when I watched it haha.

They have a ton of chemistry together but I am glad they didn't sleep together. I have had very close girl friends that were STRICTLY platonic and one I loved like a sister. You would not believe how much this increas the quality of your life and your perspective in general

Unfortunately, Rachel Brosnahan has said ‘absolutely NOT’ to the whole Midge/Lenny thing.
I love the storyline and the actor playing Bruce is DREAMY, but it leaves an unsettling feeling in my spirit knowing the way the real Lenny Bruce's life transpired and ended in such tragedy. That said, the show is, at least, doing a fantastic job in its fictional portrayal to humanize a legend known to be troubled to almost mythic proportions. An actor's job is to introduce the viewer to people they might not ordinarily know and get us to understand, if not even empathize with what's going on in their world: mission accomplished; Brosnahan and Kirby are doing this...marvelously, to the point that we're rooting for "it" to happen one day, before he dies, sighs.
Oh, the way they danced! Oh, the look on his face at the end. 😢
The best part was watching the two of them together on The Late Night TV show and that's not even in this clip! The quick banter between them is really the part that's magical. Reminiscent of Lorelai and Rory on Gilmore Girls.

I loved their relationship since the beginning and Lenny's role in Midge's life. I never exactly wanted them to be romantic with each other, but the whole Loco Amor scene was completely heartbreaking, just the way he was looking at her. Going forwards I still don't really want them to change the relationship to a romance, but it makes it interesting to imagine that Lenny had these feelings from the start.
What can I say, I like the pain of unrequited love.
