Their all time high was the album Reign In Blood. If your wanting aggressive Slayer I highly recommend that album. 30 minutes of sheer aggression 😹😹🤘👹🤘 Also awesome review of a great song ❤
Hard disagree. Their best work was probably South of Heaven. Less aggressive than Reign, absolutely, but wall to wall straight bangers on the whole album.
I remember buying this cassette when it came out. If you listened to Jesus Saves and turn the tape over Jesus Saves started again. I miss those days lol. At Dawn They Sleep is my all time favorite song by Slayer but Reign is my favorite album.
Dave Lombardo is the best old school drummer I've ever heard, besides being a master of the double bass drum, I'd say he's an old school pioneer. Inspiration of many, that speed was not heard from anyone else in the 80's.
To answer your question....most brutal/aggressive Slayer tune goes back to their 2nd album's title track "Hell Awaits" with a pretty cool creepy intro before all hell breaks loose at the 3 minute mark!!! You also can't go wrong with Angel of Death, Praise of Death, Jesus Saves, or Chemical Warfare!!!
It's not their most aggressive track, but you should really check out Mandatory Suicide off the South of Heaven album. It's one of their most slept on and best tracks at the same time. If you want dark lyrics, you'll love it. Plus musically the track is off the rails good.
Not aggressive enough for you when the subject is Slayer is a very easy problem to solve. 😂 This song you just listened to is one of the “Let’s ease them into it first so we don’t scare them away.” songs. Haha. The entire Reign In Blood album is required listening, starting with the first track, Angel Of Death. I’d suggest a lyric video for your first listen so you actually hear the majesty of the studio recording. Live versions are great if you’ve already heard the song, but I feel the first listen should be the studio version. Since there is no official video a lyric video is the next best thing.

What set Slayer apart from the thrash metal scene in the 80's was their affinity for hardcore punk rock fused w/ the proficiency of Judas Priest and the aggression of Venom (the band). Slayer was formed by teenagers in Huntington Beach, California in 1981. Kerry King (guitar) met Jeff Hanneman (guitar) and Dave Lombardo (drums) in the neighborhood and got together to play heavy metal music. Tom Araya (vocals & bass) had played w/ King in a prior project and joined Slayer... In 1982, they met Metallica in the L.A. scene and became huge fans. Around that time, Jeff Hanneman also got into S. California punk rock music and wanted to play w/ the same speed & aggression of those punk bands, and Dave Lombardo would speed up the tempos of Slayer's music to a frantic pace. Kerry King and Jeff Hanneman wrote all the original music and Tom Araya would contribute some lyrics. Metal Blade Records founder Brian Slagel discovered Slayer, but lacked the finances to help them make a record. In 1983, Slayer pooled money together to record their first album 'Show no mercy' which was released late in the year by Metal Blade... they emulated Venom's image early on, but after playing w/ Exodus in San Francisco in 1984, they decided to ditch the ghoulish makeup. Despite releasing 2 EP's ('Haunting the chapel' and 'Live undead') and their 1985 album 'Hell awaits', Slayer was still struggling to find an audience... Kerry King played guitar in Megadeth's first shows in 1984. In 1986, hip hop producer Rick Rubin wanted to sign Slayer to his Def Jam label and got the band in the studio to reinvent their sound... What emerged was the iconic album 'Reign in blood' in 1986 that set a high mark in speed metal drumming and controversial lyrics about real-life horrors... Rubin and Slayer crafted 2 more albums that defined Slayer's career after 'Reign in blood'... 'South of Heaven' (1988) and 'Seasons in the Abyss' (1990)... Slayer's albums went gold (half million copies sold) in the US, and their fanbase in concert were beyond extreme and reputed to cause serious damages (even to themselves). However, the success of Slayer was soon undercut by obstacles... Dave Lombardo was increasingly frustrated in the band, and he was fired in 1992 after taking a leave of absence. Then, producer Rick Rubin was absent from the studio... Slayer hired Paul Bostaph (drums) and recorded 'Divine intervention' in 1994, but despite going gold again, Rubin's absence was felt on that record. A punk rock covers album 'Undisputed attitude' was released in 1996, and drummer John Dette filled in for the absent Paul Bostaph on tour until 1998... 'Diabolus in musica' (1998) was the next album, but did not fare well in the late 90's. A run on Ozzfest '99 helped Slayer pick up new fans and they returned to their older sound w/ the album 'God hates us all' in 2001. In 2002, Paul Bostaph left Slayer, and Dave Lombardo was welcomed back to the band on drums... The band played the entire 'Reign in blood' album in concert in 2003/ '04... The next album 'Christ illusion' finally arrived in 2006. Slayer had to take a year off after the release of the 2009 album 'World painted blood' after Tom Araya had surgery on his back... they returned to tour in 2010... Unfortunately, another tragic setback hit guitarist Jeff Hanneman who was infected w/ a flesh-eating bacteria and survived, but the damage was severe and he had to take 2011 off as Slayer kept touring w/ Exodus guitarist Gary Holt taking his spot. In 2012, a financial dispute led to Dave Lombardo leaving the band... John Dette filled in again, until Paul Bostaph came back in 2013. That same year, Jeff Hanneman passed away from liver cirrhosis at age 50. Slayer dedicated their 2015 (and final) studio album 'Repentless' to the late Jeff Hanneman w/ Gary Holt officially on guitar... In 2018, Tom Araya announced that he was retiring, and Slayer would be playing their final tours. Slayer's last show was in L.A. in 2019. So far, Kerry King has hinted that he has a new band and new music w/ Paul Bostaph on drums, and intends to release it in 2023.
Altar of Sacrifice is their most aggressive song. I would really like to see you do a long video where you react to Reign in Blood, the full album. It's a very short record for album standards, and it takes you to hell and back. Altar of Sacrifice is track 4, and it has legendary songs like Angel of Death, Criminally Insane, and the closing duo of Postmortem and Raining Blood I think it would be fun and a cool change of pace
Altar of Sacrifice is probably their most underrated song. Or maybe I just say that because it went from a great song overshadowed by other greats to one day realising o dear lord fuck me what is this. It is just so fucking frantic. There is so much that happens it is just insane. It is also the song that was playing as I was taking my shirt of and sitting down for my Slayer tattoo, which started while Jesus Saves was playing.
Yeah, I’m coming into the conversation late but I gotta recommend another thrash band - D.B.C. (Dead Brain Cells) - ‘Deadlock.’ They’re obscure but their first album was fire.
One of my favorite Slayer songs. And for me, the best music video ever! Look at the pyramids (actually filmed in Egypt), the reflection of the riders on the guitar, the close-ups of the hands playing. Amazing! 😄
Every time i hear Slayer... somehow it reminds me of the Band Testament... especially the Song "Return to Serenity" .. from 1992...its a awesome song !!
I also strated to play guitar because of Slayer ! i remember playing this track when i was 20 years old. Easy and fun to play! Loved when you would swith to clean sound........
I really enjoyed watching your reaction to a great song from a great band. I've been listening to them since I was about 10-11 yrs old since I was only 4 when they formed lol. I've had the pleasure of seeing them live twice, they're incredible live. Let me tell you the pit was absolutely insane & I loved every second of being right in the middle of it.
"Dead Skin Mask" will always be my favorite, because of my past. But, I pretty much love the majority of Slayer songs. I have been lucky and been able to see them 2 times live. Great shows.
This is my favorite Slayer song from my favorite Slayer album. "War Ensemble", "Skeletons of Society", "Dead Skin Mask", and "Expendable Youth" are great tunes off this album. Kerry King's solo starts it off, but I really like Jeff Hanneman's solo (blonde guitarist). The transition from his awesome tapping to the main riff is sick!!! The most "aggressive" song in terms of speed and just not giving a f**k about feelings (i.e., calling it like you see it) is probably "Angel of Death". There are some other great tunes, but that one will probably deliver on all fronts. . . . For more "don't give a f**k" attitude songs, I highly recommend "Disciple". It's relatively short, but powerful and really pi$$es people off (or it did when it came out). Of course, "Angel of Death" broke the path for that song more than a decade earlier.
This is my favourite Slayer tune all time! I love to just crank this all the way up and get lost in the intro alone! Metal is the source it will change your life lol!
Other people who react to music on UA-cam but they do not pause the music they listen to the whole song and then they talk about how they feel about the song after the song is done.
I have been there since Haunting The Chapel - It is their most melodic track & actually is my 2nd fave Slayer song (BTW met Dave Lombardo ,have pics (their drummer) when he toured with Testament ANOTHER BAND You have to visit , welcome to the rabbit hole
Slayer songs to check out include raining blood, Angel of Death and Repentless. If you want more bands to satisfy your need for heaviness a band such as Exodus would be your next logical step. If you want to throw yourself into the deep end with something really heavy I recommend Meshuggah Bleed.
I have the EXACT kit Dave is using in this video. The 1987 Tama Granstar custom in gloss black. I even let it get a little dusty from time to time to look like the sand dust on his in this video... lol 😁
When this video dropped on Head Bangers ball it was fuel to an Underground SLAYER Flame. Let's remember kids, There was nowhere to visualize metal music other than Tours, VHS or Headbangers Ball.
Postmortem is one of those songs that most people don’t mention because most of these people would mention Angel Of Death and other “popular” Slayer songs , But Postmortem is Heavy is Dark and is a song that definitely defines Metal 🤘🏻
Without a doubt, War Ensemble is the most chaotic song you will ever listen to. Some of the comments have this song listed but I STRONGLY suggest this song. Trust me on this, listening to Slayer since 1984.
This is how Kerry and Jeff used to play on almost all their songs ! Guitars seems to answer to each other. If you close your eayes you know when Jeff or Kerry plays, they used to have their very own style. My favorite was Jeff he wrote all the Slayer classic songs. Met him many times before he dies.
Dave Lombardo is arguably the best fill drummer in metal history. He's definitely my favorite drummer of all time (save perhaps John Bonham). Slayer is weird in the sense of "aggression." Yes, they have super fast and thrashy songs but a lot of their slower tempo songs (this being one of them) hit just as heavy. This is the title track and last track on their "Seasons In The Abyss" album. Probably my favorite album by them (close 2nd would be "Hell Awaits" which is definitely more "aggressive") but most fans would probably gravitate more towards their album "Reign In Blood" which is also a metal masterpiece. I have a Slayer tattoo on my left shoulder of their cover to "Divine Intervention." That's not relevant....especially since I'm not the biggest fan of the album itself, just a badass image....but it is a testament (another band you need to check out is "Testament" btdubs) to how much I enjoy Slayer on a whole. Great start song to get into Slayer, though. Awesome reaction!
This was the last album to feature Dave Lombardo on the drums until he rejoined in the early 2000s. Two other songs worth reacting to from this album are the opening track - War Ensemble, and Expendable Youth.
Glad to see you still doing your thing girl!!! I love the fact that your videos are here....for when I need them. I just LOOVE hearing how you see/hear/feel the music!!!!!
This was the last studio album to feature Dave lombardo on the drums until he rejoined then recorded Christ illusion . Technically this is probably slayer at their best ( as far as writing goes) Performance wise slayer were at their peak when Dave came back and they had been back together for around 18 months , check the still reigning dvd , that's them at their peak .
Def a great song to start with! I love how they actually filmed this video in Egypt! Def check out more Slayer! Angel Of Death is one of my all time fav songs! 🤘😎
Eyes Of The Insane is worth it for the video alone. I think it won a Grammy. PS- I just checked and I couldn’t find any reaction videos to it, so fresh territory.
The way you're moving, your facial expressions, from the intro to the rest of the song, tell us that you Get It about their brand of metal. Add into that your understanding about how the instrumental parts accentuate the lyrics? Right on, girl. 🤘
Maybe not their "most aggressive " songs but a few you may like: "War Ensemble" (my personal fave) "Disciple" "Skelton's of Society" "Dead Skin Mask" and of course "Raining Blood" "Angel of Death"
So. We started SLOWW for slayer anyway. So to break you into the musical magic that is slayer I suggest rolling stone magazines metal album of 91 "seasons in the abyss" and throw out "dead skin mask". Speedier yet nothing like "raining blood" album. Dead skin mask is as creepy of a song about Ed Gein the serial killer you'll ever hear. The tone and drive in it will make you want to hear again. Then "temptations " or spirit in black. Remember. All things dead will rise again when twilight s blanket falls. Scattered red you'll find my den. Blood dripping from the walls! God i love slayer. Ty
Go deeper into their discography and give "Black Magic" and "Hell Awaits" a shot. Black Magic may not be one of their most aggresive songs, but the early raw sound is addictive. You'll definitely need the lyrics to follow along to Hell Awaits, it's a bit fast.
Raining Blood has been pinned as their most extreme song but I think the song Repentless off their last album showed how aggressive Slayer could be after all these years. And the video is pretty insane
Had to watch this because i remember hearing this the first time. I remember exactly where i was and couldn't believe there was a song on that album better than Dead Skin Mask which i had been listening to for days over and over again. Thats when I became a true lifetime Slayer fan. I was 14 i believe. Hope you keep listening to Slayer because a life of whiskey and weed and slayer is goddamn electric...
My comment is just how much I love you watching my fellow style of music. You are fair and nice with your comments on metal.👍was warn up 4 a while... but alot of speed
Angel Of Death , War Ensemble , Repentless. All badass. Reign In Blood , South Of Heaven. Well Slayer is pure in Thrash. Keepers of the Hard as Hell Metal.
Most agressive...that's all Slayer does. Been a mega fan from day 1, seen them live over 100 times, met them 8 times. Between hannemans riffs, lomardos double bass and crazy fills,to king and his solos, slayer is 1 of the few bands who never compromised their music or lyrics to accomodate social norms, radio play,ect.ect.So here is some of my all time favs, angel of death, disciple, south of heaven, jihad, eyes of the insane, dead skin mask,512,killing fields, bloodlines, physcopathy red, when the stillness comes, crooked cross, born of fire, mandatory suicide, expendable youth, raining blood...all GREAT songs and slayer at their best.....

Seasons album was the heaviest and most melodic of all of Slayer's catalog.
Altar of Sacrifice is their most aggressive song. I would really like to see you do a long video where you react to Reign in Blood, the full album. It's a very short record for album standards, and it takes you to hell and back. Altar of Sacrifice is track 4, and it has legendary songs like Angel of Death, Criminally Insane, and the closing duo of Postmortem and Raining Blood
I think it would be fun and a cool change of pace
Reign in Blood the whole album !!!
One of my favorite Slayer songs. And for me, the best music video ever! Look at the pyramids (actually filmed in Egypt), the reflection of the riders on the guitar, the close-ups of the hands playing. Amazing! 😄
This is a good song to start with SLAYER. They do get much heavier as wonderful as this is. \m/
"Angel Of Death" is a pretty heavy song. \m/
Every time i hear Slayer... somehow it reminds me of the Band Testament... especially the Song "Return to Serenity" .. from 1992...its a awesome song !!
I love Testament 🤘🏻
Testament, whose current drummer is.....
Last time i heard ..was Dave Lombardo ... yeap.. the Slayer's Band co-founder 😎🤘
I agree with others. This song is meek by Slayer standard. Listen to "ANGEL OF DEATH." It is a Jeff Hanneman masterpiece. RIP Jeff.
This was also my first Slayer song! Saw the music video on TV in the 90s and was hooked.
Yeah this is basically their ballad
Next to South Of Heaven, this is probably my favorite album from them. They really showed just how talented they were with this one.
Angel of death. The best song of the band and by far more aggressive than seasons!
"Dead Skin Mask" will always be my favorite, because of my past. But, I pretty much love the majority of Slayer songs. I have been lucky and been able to see them 2 times live. Great shows.
Bloodline is also one of my favorites from them. Video is pretty cool too
This is my favorite Slayer song from my favorite Slayer album.
0:42 see the star and smile pricelesss!
This is my favourite Slayer tune all time! I love to just crank this all the way up and get lost in the intro alone! Metal is the source it will change your life lol!
Huge Slayer fan, seen them live multiple times in concert. Check out one of their lesser-known hits, but one of my favorites Skeletons Of Society
My favorite song by them is Skeletons Of Society
This was my absolute favorite concert ever. They had Testament open for them and they killed it then when Slayer came out it was insane.
Other people who react to music on UA-cam but they do not pause the music they listen to the whole song and then they talk about how they feel about the song after the song is done.
I'm 61 this year. And I love Slayer.
SLAYER -Hallowed Point! ⚡️R.I.P. Jeff Hanneman ⚡️Great reaction as always!🤘🏻👍🏻
This is the only Slayer song that used to play on the radio when I was younger. It's actually one of the more tame songs lyrically.
I have been there since Haunting The Chapel - It is their most melodic track & actually is my 2nd fave Slayer song (BTW met Dave Lombardo ,have pics (their drummer) when he toured with Testament ANOTHER BAND You have to visit , welcome to the rabbit hole
My favorite band since 1989 ! i met them many times over the yaers even backstage they were so great! oh..... i am 51 !
Angel of Death should Definitely be the next if your looking for that intense aggression!! 🤘
😂😁
Slayer songs to check out include raining blood, Angel of Death and Repentless. If you want more bands to satisfy your need for heaviness a band such as Exodus would be your next logical step. If you want to throw yourself into the deep end with something really heavy I recommend Meshuggah Bleed.
I have the EXACT kit Dave is using in this video.
The 1987 Tama Granstar custom in gloss black.
I even let it get a little dusty from time to time to look like the sand dust on his in this video... lol 😁
"South of Heaven", "Killing Fields", and "Bloodline"!!! Even though the line up changed a bit over the years... it really shows their progession!!!
I started listening to Slayer in 1989, and saw them live in the mid 90's
This is how Kerry and Jeff used to play on almost all their songs ! Guitars seems to answer to each other. If you close your eayes you know when Jeff or Kerry plays, they used to have their very own style. My favorite was Jeff he wrote all the Slayer classic songs. Met him many times before he dies.
There was absolutely nothing quite on earth like physically being at or in a Slayer show bar none. 🤘❤️🇨🇦
I have to agree! I have seen them a few times. The first time being in 1985! Yes, I am old.
Raining Blood - Slayer
Two other songs worth reacting to from this album are the opening track - War Ensemble, and Expendable Youth.
one of my favorite songs ever, behind cliff burtons live bass solo.
8:30 "What is their most aggressive song in their catalog?" Off the top of my head "Raining Blood" "Ghosts of War" and "Flesh Storm"
Glad to see you still doing your thing girl!!! I love the fact that your videos are here....for when I need them. I just LOOVE hearing how you see/hear/feel the music!!!!!
Thank you so much!! I peep your channel here and there. I am a strong lurker and forget to comment sometimes !!
@@lillyjanereacts Ohh, haha, it's all good my friend.....I appreciate ya either way ;)
This was the last studio album to feature Dave lombardo on the drums until he rejoined then recorded Christ illusion .
Technically this is probably slayer at their best ( as far as writing goes)
Performance wise slayer were at their peak when Dave came back and they had been back together for around 18 months , check the still reigning dvd , that's them at their peak .
Def a great song to start with! I love how they actually filmed this video in Egypt! Def check out more Slayer! Angel Of Death is one of my all time fav songs! 🤘😎
They invented thrash. What an album this one was. Melodic guitars blended with hard core thrash metal
Eyes Of The Insane is worth it for the video alone. I think it won a Grammy.
PS- I just checked and I couldn’t find any reaction videos to it, so fresh territory.
far from their heaviest, but still my fave Slayer track. I used to play this in the car daily, coming home from school.
Slayer: War Ensemble- DOOOO EEEET!!!! ;-)
The way you're moving, your facial expressions, from the intro to the rest of the song, tell us that you Get It about their brand of metal. Add into that your understanding about how the instrumental parts accentuate the lyrics? Right on, girl. 🤘
Maybe not their "most aggressive " songs but a few you may like:
"War Ensemble" (my personal fave)
"Disciple"
"Skelton's of Society"
"Dead Skin Mask"
and of course
"Raining Blood"
"Angel of Death"
Yep, this song is my favourite. The intro is legendary.
I love this band! ❤️❤️❤️
Awesome reaction! 🤘
"Seasons..." and "God Hates us All" are my fav Slayer's LPs.
Try Angel of Death or maybe Ghost of War. There are a lot of highly aggressive songs by Slayer. 🙂
This entire album ia my favprite slayer album. All the songs are great
Black magic. Classic along with captor of sin.
Love that song. Thanks for your reaction 👍
Raining Blood has been pinned as their most extreme song but I think the song Repentless off their last album showed how aggressive Slayer could be after all these years. And the video is pretty insane
i was just gonna suggest if she wants agressive, then do repentless, the music video version as it will probably give her nightmares🤣
@@thedominator87 was going to suggest the whole Kilology but i thnk Repentless is a good start
Nice reference to Pantera!
Great memories of Headbangers Ball on MTV. What a fantastic show that was.
My all time favorite Slayer song!!! 🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻☠️
My fav Slayer song ever! Thank you!
Reign in Blood is their most intense song IMHO. It goes completely bananas.
Welcome lilly Jane, to the world of slayer. Great reaction. Love the breakdown.
Awesome reaction and analysis of this banging 🎸jam and video.
Angel of death war war ensemble is probably the most wild and aggressive song
Seasons in the abyss is about the pharaohs servants who were entombed with him with a years food hence the title
The drumming is so beautiful... Thanks mr Lombardo!
