As I stated in the intro I am not saying RR components is the problem!
But I have a problem in mine and I'm going to make a video series going through fixing the problem because it might be interesting to someone.
This is a follow up to this video: • Honda CRF300 Rally-Rai...
I wanted to share my raw experiences with the RR suspension as it is at the moment. The set has performed very well in some TET riding and basic dualsport stuff but doing this the forks are in trouble for some reason. I will follow up this video soon with a video where I will take the bike to a suspension specialist here in Finland and we will see if we can find a solution.
Subscribe to see the next ones and please if you can throw the video a like 🙂
Thank you ‪@Garage_Perkele‬ and ‪@advseeker‬ for providing some of the extra footage!

As I already stated in the intro I am not trying to make RR products look bad. I have a problem IN MY suspension and I'm gonna make a couple of videos of my journey trying to find and fix the problem.
There's always someone trying to misunderstand these videos even though I clearly stated that I have some work to do on my forks and I'm making videos for others that might have the same issues like I always try to do.

I watch with interest your journey here.

Normal riding they have worked well. Even Pavlin from motorcycle adventures liked them and he is a much heavier dude than me.
Im sure there is some porblem that I’m able to fix in the next vid!

The Rally Raid setup must be quite good, because with a stock Honda you wouldn't dare to enter this track. You have confidence and ride at a faster pace than most people would do. That's the start of your "problems". What Rally Raid suggested is to fill in a bit more oil and testride again. I'm pretty sure taht less air gap works out well. Pity that it's so cold outside that spannering is no fun at all. Do it in your heated garage and start a new testride. Same track, ideally same weather and same pace. All the best, Günter/Nürnberg

I installed the 4.2Nm L2 fork springs (the most stiff they offered), and the 95Nm L2 rear spring. I weigh 118kg, and knew the rear spring was 5-10Nm below what they recommended, but planned on losing some weight. Temps were below 0c for the first 1000km I rode the RR suspension. I found even midrange settings on preload and compression felt very harsh. I ended up running about 40% sag / 5 clicks rebound on the shock and 7 clicks preload / 5 clicks compression on the forks. I put a plastic zip tie around one fork to watch it for bottoming out and went riding through potholes, leaving settings where it took a very sharp hit to bottom out. I couldn't tell you where my settings are at right now, but with the 95Nm rear spring, I'll probably add rear preload to around 35% rider sag as I start to get faster offroad. In testing early on, 30% rider sag at full preload was only showing 1.5% static sag, and it was very harsh feeling. I know I should probably just get the 105Nm rear spring, but actually liking how the bike feels right now. I can also say fir my 30 inch inseam, the L1 would have been a better choice. It's been more difficult getting used to the bike running the L2 on my tiptoes when it gets slow. Many slow/stopped drops looking for footing. Hope my experience can help some. Great video as always! Thanks!

Look forward to the follow-up. I have the same spring rate in my level 1 and I weigh exactly the same as you. I’ve only bottomed out a few times, but I don’t ride nearly as aggressively as you. I’ve told myself several times that I probably didn’t put enough oil in the forks because they are very mushy through the first couple of inches of stroke.

    • @PatchedBandit
      @PatchedBandit  9 місяців тому +1

Very possible that adding oil past the recommended amount is the key here but we will see later. I will take the whole bike to a suspension specialist and make a film about it.. at least that's the plan.
I've ridden the RR suspension a lot all over Europe but riding normal TET it doesn't get this kind of abuse and it's been nice. I would like it to take hits better though so I hope this 'series' of me fiding out will help others too 😊

    • @pawelwolski1316

The air gap/oil level effects the larger deflections of the fork to a much greater degree than the initial stroke you are having issues with (unless the fork is almost empty or you have air in the cartridge). The air is compressed as the fork travels up, this "adds" to the overall "spring rate". Best way to adjust the oil level is to open both dampening adjusters, put a zip tie on the bottom tube and now press hard on the fork (off the bike). You want to keep adding oil to a point where the fork no longer bottoms out and gives you 10-20 mm of "bottom out" cushion. This method can fine tune forks to a certain degree, if the spring rate is way off, obviously you need diff spring.

I also have the 3.9 level one kit and have the opposite problem. I feel the forks are a bit over damp. And that their small bump compliance is a bit harsh.
Your video looks like you have air in the damping cartridge. Pull the left leg spring out and see if you have resistance in the cartridge to hold itself up. If not you have air in there.
Its also worth trying an 80mm air gap in the left leg instead of the suggested 100mm gap.
How long have you had the fork kit in there? It may just be time for a suspension service and new oil.

Great video! I followed your advice and got the ABS version (from "First Impressions" video). In the future I'm considering upgrading the suspension and is quite valuable that you test it on every posible scenario. Could be Level 1 vs Level 2 traveling?, waiting for your outcome with the suspension specialist. Regards!

If you can deal with the height of the level 2 you should go for that for sure. Due to some medical stuff I have a brake from making content but I have booked the appointment. Video should be out in about 3 weeks or so..

Do you notice any spring on fork tube rubbing sound cycling the forks up and down? I do on mine snd it kind of bothers me, but figure there's oil in there, and it would take a long long time to actually do damage, but it is a steel spring on aluminum tube, so ?

Varmasti mukava jousitus normaalissa TET ajossa. Mielenkiintoista nähdä miten muuttuu öljy muutoksilla jos niitä on luvassa. Näytti että löystyi ajon aikana kun öljyt lämpesi tai sitten vaan vauhdit kasvoi.
