I moved 9 states away from NY to to the south in the country. I totally understand the work that has to be done.I had to learn how to grow food all over again in this different environment. It takes time to get stuff done.
It definitely does! It took me five years to get my other place set up. I'm hoping things will go a little quicker here since I know a little better what I'm doing now, but we shall see. 10 months in, I'm a lot closer than I was after 10 months at our last place, that's for certain!
Welcome to the mid-Tenn! I was born and raised in Hermitage and dying to get back home. Watching you, April, and others within the maker community turn your dreams into a reality, has given me a lot of hope and inspiration. I will be leaving the corporate world soon to pursue my dreams and hopefully all goes well. If not, well at least I tried while I had the chance. Hope you all adjust well and the traffic doesn’t drive you to insanity.
Great tour Anne, you and Adam made a courageous move to uproot and start all over, looks like things are getting organized and you're well on your way to making this place uniquely you, just as you did in Seattle, congratulations AGAIN, best wishes, AGAIN, exciting, exhilarating days ahead
This reminds me a lot when I was growing up. My grandfather had a farm with a big barn. And he took care of 4 or 5 big fields to grow crops. He raised and slaughtered hogs, raised chickens, horses, and goats. I remember in the mid 60s riding in the back of his Dodge truck, going door to door to all the neighbors to collect "slop", which was food scrapings to feed his hogs. And in his fields he grew, corn, potatoes, pumpkins, beans, etc. You name it, my grandfather grew. He also was owner of a grocery store, he was a carpenter, a land surveyor, and he worked for the railroad. This was many moons ago, like in the 50s and 60s. My grandfather passed away in 1969 at the age of 78. This was on my dad's side and my dad came from a family of 16 kids. And in the community I now live in, my grandfather used to own all of the property. He sold it all off and now there are like 75 or so houses here and my grandfather built about 20 of the houses.
He Anne, I know that you get that a lot, but I would like to leave my statement here for you as well. You truly inspired me to start doing right now "activities" related to some future/distant dreams. As you say, we may need to wait to obtain all the tools and space we wish, but we can also start small. Thank you so much!
That makes me SO happy to hear! The reason I make these videos is with the sole intention of inspiring and more, empowering others to do the things they’ve always wanted as well. Steps today, no matter how small, will get you there eventually!
Knowing you have a blank slate to work with is amazing. I get excited just looking at the property and the current structures not to mention the potential for growth. I can almost smell the animals, the wood and the woodstove now. Enjoy the bounty that Tennessee has to offer its quite a beautiful place. There are a lot of old barns to reclaim wood from also hint, hint. Love to see that repurposed bit of history. God bless.
Hi Anne, enthusiast follower of yours from over the big sea. It seemed today even those kind smiles had costed also some effort, so wish you good luck in your new home and have some rest, when you can afford! Looking forward to see your next years...cheers and blessings from Hungary.
Thanks Anne as other folks have said you are an inspiration to all of us. As I have I am super happy for both of you to have settled in a great place. You have shown us all the friendly folks and how they were willing to lend a hand. You have restored my faith in that there are good people in this world. All the Best to both of you. I look forward to your journey.
Anne, thank you for sharing your life with us. We are so excited and happy for you and your family. Your farm is beautiful and as it grows it will become more amazing. Plus, I am looking forward to your woodworking school. Can't wait! Thanks so much!
It's going to be awesome for you to build up this farm and shops using all the knowledge you attained from your Seattle place. I'm sure you know so much more now and this place is even going to be more fantastic than the last!!!
It is definitely a huge advantage getting to do it all a second time! I'm very thankful to have the chance. And the freedom a "blanker" slate will provide
Looks like you will have lots of motivation to set up new your shop(s) in the manner that you want right from the start; that it terribly exciting! I guess the expression of 'living the dream' is really something that is happening to you and I can't wait to follow you through all of its stages.
Your living the dream! And a woman after my own heart. I was a woodworker for 30 years and a machinist before that for 7 years. Now I want to farm but on a much smaller scale than you're doing. You are inspiring! 💘 the video's.
Thank you so much! Oh man you've got all the skills I'm trying to collect then! Yes farming on a scale this large is a bit of a bullheaded endeavor but I'm excited to find the right partners here to do it with so I don't get overloaded trying to manage it all on my own!
Thanks for all the inspiration and your happiness. Viewing your videos makes everybody happy and informed at the same time. Greetings from Munich, Tom.
Love the video and it's just what I needed! I'm a single mom who started a hobby farm in GA a few years ago from scratch and am just feeling overwhelmed with upkeep and projects and sometimes I feel like I don't know what I'm doing and can feel alone in it so it's so nice to see someone else out there figuring it out as well! You are an inspiration and stay so positive!!
Keep your chin up! Farming alone can be really tough, and bad days seem to really compound. I ran the farm in Seattle alone and it was amazing how at times something I loved so much could make me so dang miserable, but doing my best to stay positive and to give myself grace when things didn't go as planned really helped. Some days just sucked and that's ok too. I find myself singing "the sun will come out tomorrow" an awful lot. And guess what? It usually does.
Maybe you could show us a plot plan for your land and show where everything is now and where you plan to build your shop and garden area and whatever else you have in your future plans'
I have just come across your channel and i think i am really going to enjoy checking out your videos. I am a farmer here in Ireland but i like doing all kinds of DIY projects. My family going back generations were blacksmiths, my grandfathers my uncles and cousins all worked as blacksmiths and farriers although i prefer working with wood. Even so, i could weld by the time i was 9 yrs old and have worked as a welder/fabricator on and off for the last 30 years. Don't do much now though, except for carrying out repairs here on the farm :)
You are going to have sooooo much fun! Good for you. Looking forward to all the varied videos to come! Thanks for sharing and putting in all time it must take to present the quality of work that you do! Cheers to you and all the lovelies we don't, or haven't yet seen that form you community/family.
I can see your insight into the farm. You have the land to do this with.may be in time you will be able to move critters from one area of pasture to another without pulling fence. setting up channels with the fence. But that's another day. Thanks Anne.
I'm loving the new place already! I know you're going to make it a home soon enough. There's nothing wrong with making temporary setups until you can decide what you really want to do and how you want to do it. Especially when everything is so new to you. I know what you end up with is going to be great and just the way you want it!
Thank you Bob! We are really excited to be here and getting settled. Some temporary stuff will happen for sure but I am even more mindful this, the second time around, to build things right the first time. It might mean I need to learn a little more patience though!!
Thanks for sharing Anne. This is like what we are setting up only mainly just a woodshop, mill area on the Goat Dairy Farm were working on setting up. Luckily it used to be a Cow Dairy, so that shed is already there, just lot's of fencing, water management (currently working on), and garden area's to set up. Love your little Goats, lol. We currently have Agist sheep on our Farm to help with revitalising the paddocks, and looking at utilising a few Chicken Tractors. Looking forward to seeing how you progress, and seeing the differences in how you do things compared to how we do things here in Tasmania. We are looking at getting the Australian Melan breed of Goats. We'll also be opening to tourists, and looking at having school groups come through so they can learn, and even have a go at hand milking a goat or two, and to see how we farm in an ecological and sustainable way, as we don't want to use chemicals and other nasties.
This is so exciting. You are definitely living my dream. Cannot wait to see the updates. Keep an eye on the tools and machines you are not using, the humidity will come to play in the Spring and Summer months.
Congrats Anne! Best wishes for the new homestead and life out in TN! I caught a glimpse of the bike early in the video and got all excited for you enjoying riding in the South! (And good to hear about the good old truck!). Be well and happy! :)
I was wondering if you left the truck. Glad to see he (she?)’ll be home with you soon. That project more than any other, really, is what I’m looking forward to the most. Also looking forward to your first review of the southern summertime. :) Personally, I love it.

That's always an excellent reminder. I have at times found myself missing the Rome I built in Seattle, but this one will be bigger and better and full of all kinds of adventure and wonderful relationships along the way!
As a woodworker you will love the hardwoods that grow naturally in that part of Tennessee. Black Locust, Black Walnut, and hickory all grow wild in that area. You probably have a ton on your property that you could selectively harvest.
Not sure how close Kingsport TN is to you but that is where another youtuber I watch is from. He runs a portable Wood-Mizer sawmill and kiln full time. You may be able to get same very, very nice slabs from him for making your work benches for your shop. His channel is Out of the Woods.
Looks like great adventures ahead. I'd like to see what's in those panels in the blacksmithing shop. They reveal potential. (pun intended) I bought my house because it had 2 200amp panels with one almost empty. I've almost filled it up with a few additions to the house (12 breakers just for my wife's dream kitchen). Someday a windmill & solar panels might be a nice addition to your farm. Wouldn't do it all, but would help with the electrical load & during blackouts. I'm rigging a small windmill to assist/maintain my air compressor which is connected to multiple outlets around my house & property.
I'm so excited to hear you're going to have a woodworking school. I was hoping that would be something you'd do. I'm in Kentucky, but my parents are in Nashville, so I would definitely make a trip down for workshops.

Anne of All Trades Sweet! When I heard you talk about the laundry room in your video I was blown away. It showed me that I can definitely make my space work, I just need to be smart about it.
YaY, you've landed! I loved the bits you posted of the vehicles arriving. I'm not a motor-head but when you live in the Mitten, it rubs off on ya. Cheers ;)
I love the way you call your animal's "your clitters". My dogs might be getting a new name 😊 The new farm looks like it has a lot of space for you to move into! Have fun 🙂👍👍👍👍👍👍
Good Morning All ! Beautiful place down there. Is your mother going to be living with you ? Lots of videos in the future I can see as you all settle in. Best of Everything to You. 👍👍❤️😊
Good morning! Thank you! I wish my mom could come live here but she and my dad both still work and their work keeps them in montana for the forseeable future, but we will see lots of them here because my mom is the world's biggest supporter of my farming endeavors and passions and has taught me most of what I know :)

@@AnneofAllTrades Your very welcome Anne! Have a fantastic week!😎
Thank you! They are all characters for sure! Yes, lots of space means lots of projects! Busy fun days ahead!

Welcome to Nashville!
Thank you!
