Anchors: Being a digital nomad is a usual thing abroad. Many Americans work remotely and their boss could be in Finland or Germany for example! And they could be anywhere - they don’t have to be at an office! This became popular especially during the pandemic.
Reporter: She quit her job and now she is making money travelling around the world… Julie Rose from Minnesota of the United States explains how a digital nomad lives…
Julie soundbite: My job was social media so I used to work for a hospital system a little over a year ago I quit my job and I've just been working on my blog working on my own online business
Reporter: She sold her house and she is living a life which for someone seems dreamy…
Julie soundbite: I don't have a standard job I don't have a home I'm completely mobile and money I mean it depends on how I do that month I think I have a lot of savings first of all so I saved up while I was working so that I could have leeway as I continue to build up my business and now that now that I'm sort of on my own I'm prioritizing myself it can be hard so months I'm not having that much money coming in but I believing in myself and over time I know that I will continue to grow
over my lifetime 31 countries I've been to Greece Greece was my first solo trip in 2011 and I also went back last year so I spent a couple weeks in Greece uh some time in Athens and some time on the island
I spend most of my time in Mexico which is just a beautiful vibrant country with with lots to do I spent four months last year in Europe just traveling around and going to most of the countries in the Balkans I love sailing so I've spent uh some time sailing and living on on sailboats which has been an amazing experience and there's just so much in the world I want to see
Reporter: nomads’ life seems lonely, as Julie travels everywhere by herself…
Julie soundbite: I don't feel lonely and I I don't miss people greatly I'm not in a bubble as I'm traveling there's so many people around me,..on the flip side the friends that I have back in the US or elsewhere around the world.. the internet has made it so so easy for us to keep in contact with each other proximity does not automatically equal closeness you can be close without necessarily being in physical proximity with people
