The Uniden R7 is a legend! I had it for a few years and loved it. I upgraded to an R8 thinking it would be better but I really dislike it and wish I had the R7 again... It's a MUST-BUY!
@@fatal.b58 1) I don't like how difficult it is to remove when it's mounted to the blendmount. Due to the design of it (it's definitely more difficult to get your hands above the detector to remove vs the R7). #2), the volume/speaker for some reason is just not nearly as loud as the R7 was. FOr example, on level 6 in the R7, that thing was screaming at me... I almost have to ride with it on level 7 all the time in the R8 bc I can't hear it as well. #3) it has a delay that even Vortex noted in his reviews. FOr example, it never seems to know what direction the radar is in right when you get on it or just pass it. I also feel like the range was better in my R7. I'd gladly go back but I dont really wanna buy a used one and It's not worth buying retail at the moment. May wait until later to either see if I can trade into uniden or something.
hey vince! had my supra for almost two years. I haven’t bought a dash cam thinking I would need that black box.. have you had any issues with only going to one of the accessory fuses from your dash cam video? btw, love the car and content!!
If you want to use your dash cam like a security system of sorts, a la Ring cameras. You should get a battery box for sure. There are some homemade versions you could do. But without a proper battery backup you can’t just leave it on all the time. Maybe if you drive the car every single day and you give enough drive time for the car battery to recharge every day. But I for example leave the Supra in the garage up to a week at a time sometimes. If you keep it connected to a battery tender also maybe you can get away with it. But, I want a security system that captures movements when the car is parked (google parking mode for dash cams) and the ability to remotely log in and view the camera from anywhere. So these things kinda need a battery backup as well as a cellular connection. Edit; but if you only want it to record during actual driving time, you can def run it to an accessory powered fuse
@ yeah.. i’m really trying to figure out if I should do the black box but I don’t want to cough up the money 😂 I just bought the n7 and I think i’ll be plugging it straight to my mirror
Don’t you think an air-oil-separator kit (more specifically the Verus Engineering one) could be an essential to get too? Aren’t AOS systems suppose to increase long term reliability (especially in turbocharged cars)?
Not really needed on this platform IMO. I had the Forge Catch Can for example on my stock location turbo setup (stock and Pure 800) and it barely had anything for the 1-1.5 years I had it. I don't have scientific data for this though, just observations.

Just “upgraded” from the R7 to the R8. What do you not like about it? Uniden companion seems great.
