Nice review... Absolutely love mine. Loved the A229 Pro in my mom's Genesis Coupe. Love it in my Elantra N-Line. At some point we will upgrade the A129 Pro my dad has in his Honda Passport to the A329.
We are a Viofo family and proud of it!!!

I purchased 2 A329's on Launch Day, one for my 2022 Corolla, and the other for my sister's 2025 Pilot.
My sister didn't want a dashcam saying her vehicle has 360° cameras already. I didn't know they record though, wonder what size her SSD is?
I am now getting the other A329 installed into my dad's F-150. His current dashcam is a Garmin 720P resolution. He is absolutely going to love this new dashcam! We are a VIOFO family as well.

@@RebelRanger2009 just looked on Hondas website. there is no mention of those cameras recording. They are probably just for parking and viewing 360. Common misconception.

    Thanks for the great video.
    1. I guess Viofo needs to provide higher frame rates (60 fps AND 120 fps)at 1080p resolution with image stabilization like in NextBase (UK). And if possible with HDR.
    2. Viofo then needs to focus on less current draw during parking mode and higher sensitivity to capture images and videos for any impact.
    3. It needs to provide a feature of storing images on an internal storage incase of emergencies (eMMC storage) which is in addition to storage on microSD card storage.
    4. Also power the dashcam with super capacitor if it is not already
    5. Viofo should provide 3 channel recording with ability to connect to additional cabin camera as a modular option with A329.
With these features, it will be a dashcam to reckon with globally.

Thank you for your response. Lets address a few things. 1. This dash camera has 60fps at 4K. We no longer sell 1080p dash cameras as in order to get best chance of getting license plates having a 4K or 2K resolution is way better. 2. They just halfed their current draw but we want them to get a low current impact detection in future. 3. EMMC is very much frowned upon in the dash camera community. From talking to users in the community they find eMMC to be highly unreliable. I am not sure why at this point in time but i value their expereince with prior dash cameras. 4. It has a super capacitor. 5. The A229 Pro and A229 Plus have 3 channel capability. I am assuming you are from the UK?

@@SafeDriveSolutions Thanks for the clarification. I live in India and use a dashcam but not Viofo. Because I fitted a dashcam which was much cheaper for my older car. It makes no sense to buy latest high-end dashcam for old cars if the purpose is only to record front and rear view with a reasonable image quality.
I find ur reply very useful. Thank you. It is very helpful and useful.
My only concern with 4K was most people (user or dashcam, law enforcement authorities world over barring a few countries and judiciary may not have a 4K display all the time incase of an incidence). So having a full HD resolution with 120 fps (with HDR) and image stabilization may be more useful as it is lighter on microSD card as well. Thereby making it easier to download via app or on to laptop/desktop. And lighter to process as well.
Besides, 4K@30fps with HDR does a better job in dark (night) for number plate readability than 4K@60fps without HDR.

Hi Ben. Thanks for this comparison (once again). I'm glad to know that we share the same thoughts about not seeing the A329 as a worthy upgrade from an A229 Pro. It just isn't worth it. I just can't drive without an interior camera. I'm not really focused on recording what happens inside the cabin. I'm focused on having coverage on the sides of the vehicle.

Same here, I have a telephoto and the IR interior camera added to the A229 Pro. No sense in down grading to the A329 and lose a channel. Over-all image quality is still comparable. The telephoto will pull in license plates and makes up for the slightly better image quality of the A329, that people want for license plates.

If this had radar parking mode, I’d buy it. I previously had the A139 and unfortunately, the battery drain in parking mode was just too significant. Even after upgrading to the largest AGM battery that fits my car, it didn’t help. My car was vandalised twice when parked near home, and both times my Viofo dashcam failed to capture anything because it had shut off. Maybe I do need to do more indepth research into separate battery packs, but when I looked previously I didn't feel they'd offer sufficient parking mode run time.
I switched to the Thinkware U3000.
Thankfully, there’s been no vandalism since. One useful feature is its ability to send a notification upon impact, along with a single frame. In the rare cases where it drains the battery too much, it also alerts you before shutting down. The U3000 can run in radar parking mode for at least a couple of days, which was my primary requirement.
The new SSD option shows that Viofo is willing to innovate, so perhaps there’s hope for such improvements in future.

    • @SafeDriveSolutions
      @SafeDriveSolutions  Місяць тому

I am one of those who does find value in the HDMI port. I drive a motorhome. I am looking for a solution that will provide camera recording while driving from the driver's perspective, AND a camera view of what is right in front of the motorhome while in tight situations (i.e., a campground). The dash cam would be too far away for viewing (almost a meter). But with a external monitor mounted close to the driver, and a waterproof camera mounted low on the front of the motorhome, this would provide a perfect solution. So, I would switch to the "rear" camera in a campground and use the closer monitor to avoid hitting objects (which cannot be seen from the driver's seat), and use the dash cam main camera while driving (in case of accidents).
Because of the length of the motorhome, a rear camera is problematic to unusable. I have a rear backup camera that satisfies all my needs of a rear view in the campground, but it does not record.

I have replaced my Varta EFB car battery 70 Ah almost 3 years old, after 4.5 months of usage with parking mode.

    1. Is using consistently a229 plus 3 ch parking mode with hardwire kit set to 12.1V, kill the car battery life faster?

One issue regarding the A329 is that when I turn on HDR Auto, the frame rate automatically drops from 60 fps to 30 fps. It should stay at 60 fps. I don’t know why this happens, but I hope they resolve this issue immediately.

    • @an1_uk
      @an1_uk Місяць тому +2

This will be a hardware limitation. What's happening is it's exposing one frame at a higher exposure setting, then the next at a lower, and combining those two frames into one. Therefore you get half the amount of frames per second. IMHO 30 fps is the best option all round anyway, particularly when it gives you HDR.

Unfortunately ppl totally missed the point with the micro HDMI... viofo saved a lot of money and extra installation to everyone how wants a free rear view camera for he's car. This future is special useful for vans or caravans and trucks... all you need is a screen or mirror screen and you got yourself a high quality reverse and rear view camera that records ... this is the cheapest and best solution o. Perhaps...but at what cost to the other 99.9 percent of the users who have zero need for a HDMI port. If VIOFO wants to be in the van market then they should probably created a system for people with travel homes.

I agree they should make a more heavy duty camera specifically for that market. It would be awesome to see. I mean we wont install them but that is a big industry and some of the solutions are very low resolution in that market.

@@Jake-m5v1e The 4K dash cameras we show on our channel are true 4K dash cameras. We are not propping up the fake 4k dash cameras at all.
To be honest we will not put Rexing on the channel unless they meet certain specs. Everytime I make a concession to take on one of these other brands we are not familiar with I spend endless hours finding problems with their products. Then communicating back and forth with the company trying to get correct answers for the challenges we find. We always end up not making a video and a lot of wasted production time happens.

The only good dashcam is one that reads the license plate of the Bad Guy -- everything else is (almost) secondary. Now with the commodification of AI tech, I would raise the bar and have my dashcam actively grabbing all of the license plates of all the cars that are anywhere near mine, and offer a UI option to display those data somewhere on the screen, or my phone. Just for fun.

I just drove a 2023 mazda cx-20 rental last August 2024 and it only had the two usb c out for power. My solution was a usb c to usb a cable from bestbuy and a usb a to "cig"
car power adapter from autozone just so I could plug in my old 2016 gps. I got another usb c to a for the front camera dash cam. It was a pain, an took at least 2 hours to run around finding the right parts. Someone needs to tell the auto makers to keep the old power jack styles as well as the new usb c.
