One way to get collector's anxiety under control is finding out ahead of time what stuff is perma-missable in what ways. For example, in BotW, all you really need to pay attention to are the lower-tier Lynel weapons, and the rest you can come back for at any time, if you take photos of things as soon as you get your hands on them. That said, I do beat Ganon before doing pretty much anything else, to get those useful completion trackers.
Edit: Yeah, if you don't want to backtrack, that's more of an issue. For openworld games, a "there's absolutely nothing wrong with backtracking" mentality is absolutely crucial.

This is pretty much what happens to me, it causes me to not want to go back and play games because I want to collect everything I can.

Dude this issue is so bad for that I just avoid any game with multiple routes or permanently missable collectibles or open world games in general because I manage to make them so unbelievably boring and tedious lmao

I feel you on that Minecraft Dungeons part, I play as a tank so exploring every section of the map sucks quite a lot because I move so slowly lmao

Randomly got recommended this video, and I gotta say it’s fantastic! Definitely giving me inspiration for future content. From one small gaming creator to another, keep up the good work!

As a (former) collector and player who liked to 100% every game I played... it is this anxiety that makes me not want to play the new Zelda/Mario games, despite having grown up with those titles and loving them. With *so* many collectibles, you can beat the main campaign and still feel as though you didn't fully "play" the game or experience it in it's entirety, while at the same time understanding that actually collecting those items would be tedious.
The only dopamine hit you get is at the very end when you've gotten everything, and even then, it's more so a feeling of relief than triumph. I don't mind collectibles if collecting all of them means you actually unlock something tangible like new levels, an OP item/armor... etc, but far too many games seem to be leaning towards collecting for the sake of collecting, which is just glorified busy work lol

Your video got randomly recommended to me on my feed but oh boy did you strike so close to home. I watched it honestly thinking its just gonna be a shitty explanatory video but you taking it and making it so personal with each game and explaining the inner feeling of this "disease" is incredible. You forgot an extremely good example that is Genshin Impact, leveling all things to maximum, talking to all NPCs for the quests and also FUCKING COLLECTING ALL -OCULUSES. The time i spent with the interactive map in my face checking all of them one by one, my god. Anyway extremely good video dude, you deserve way more attention and youre very engaging, hope you have a fine day sir and continue making awesome content 🧡

@gekkoo6236 thank you for your words, im glad my content is able to have a personal reach really is what I need to know I’m doing it right. I need to take a look i’ve never branched into Genshin Impact but games where random npcs can house a bunch of side content is so annoying, but it makes the game stick y’know!
