- Bikepacking on The Great Divide into Holland Lake and camping in Condon, MT.
This is DAY 13 of my first learn as I go solo bikepacking adventure!
35 Miles
In this episode I get onto my first breathtaking single track section of The Great Divide Mountain Bike Route (GDMBR). This is a peak grizzly area so when I run across fresh bear scat smack in the middle of the trail - it’s a new emotional experience for me.
I dump into the gorgeous Holland Lake but the bottom of the lake wasn't pleasant. While debating whether I should camp there or keep biking, my menstrual cycle hits two weeks early so that answered my question. I land in the sweet town of Condon, Montana. THRILLED to find a store with everything anyone could need. Wifi from the library, outdoor outlets, public bathroom outside so can use in the middle of the night and a kind gent as company. Amazing how it all came together beautifully!

You're awesome lady. Fantastic personality which makes the video's even more enjoyable.
Omg so beautiful
good job! i kindof feel in love with you on this update. brownies and pot pie? goodness.
Hahaha! You crack me up!
Enjoy your channel. Keep posting.
Thank you for adding a smile to my day!!
You just crack me up Chapeau don't change
You encourage my humorous side! 👊
Another great episode! Bear Ambush anxiety, on the single track...and Wi-Fi, muffins and smiles, at the end!!
Thank you Del! “Bear ambush” great comment!
Hahaa....this INTRO....(Now to watch video)
Yay! My editing worked! Thank you Coco!
Had a bad day at work, your video was a breath of fresh air thank you..also love your candid narration on the small mishaps of your adventure ❤..stay safe on your trip.
I read your post to a table of friends and each of our hearts were touched by your kind words. I feel privileged to have had an impact on a strangers day! Hope your days get better Clayton! 🤗
I appreciate and look forward to your videos! I somehow stumbled across your videos and you crack me up and I’m enjoying following your adventures!!
Also, the tampon adventure made me laugh out loud. I sympathize! But how serendipitous!
That warms my heart to hear Erin! I’m happy you appreciated the humor in the “tampon adventure” (maybe that should’ve been the subject line) 🤣
Hey there, cheers from Germany, what an amazing trip. The nature is just amazing, wow...and I loved your singing voice;-) I love cycling too, I was with my wife, our son and dog in denmark on a bikepacking tour...we also did film a bit...
Take care and lots of good trips
Volker
Hey “From Germany!” I’m good for one liners and that’s about it. Sounds wonderful, I’ll check it out!
@@HumanontheLoose PS. I am right there with you on the multiple bag packing. I have one rack on the back and I'm actively looking for some kind of basket for the front. Only way to go.
Holy Guacamole!! What a fantastic video!! Your really doing a fantastic job and they get better all the time. I couldn't watch this episode until today. I was in withdrawals waiting. I just got back from a three day trip to Maine. No service there. Lol
The scenery in your latest video is incredible!! The narrows were beautiful but Im sure the apprehension of expecting a Bear to come charging out was a little unnerving. But the Griz Dog gave you some practice on how much to freak out or not freak out. !! Lol
The sandwhich scandal would upset me to. What does a meal for bikers mean, they don't need to eat ? To hell with a tip. She needs a portion to price tip
The Red Rider showing up on your trip definitely put a whole new spin on everything. Your sense of humor is spectacular as is your singing by the way. !!
Glad to see your doing well and thanks for posting your adventure. I'm going for a bike ride, Enjoy!! ❤🐻🚴
"In withdrawals waiting" "The "Griz Dog". I love your ways of expression! Maine vacation - niiice - I'm in Wayne, Maine right now - but at a hotel with service. While reading "Red Rider" out loud next to my girlfriend we both glanced at each other and said, "Red Rider?" Then after 15 seconds burst out laughing. Then I sang to prove to her - I suck - except for a sentence here or there. Thank you as always for your wonderful feedback and humor!
@@HumanontheLoose Wayne Maine? Oh man I went right by you when I went through Augusta. I was up in Eastport. Waaaaayyyyyyy up Down East. Lol. I had my bike to of course. You obviously stayed in a better hotel since you have service. Apparently $140 a night isn't enough to include WI Fi!!?? Anyway thanks for your compliments and I hope you enjoy New England.
P.S. I'm glad you don't mind me picking apart your videos, I could really get into it but I don't want to post to long of a reply. I do love your video's and the content and especially your sense of humor and observations. Absolutely the best!! ❤🐻
You are just delightful!
You're so funny "My menstrual cycle brought me to this town..." it was meant to be! Glad you found a safe place to camp. Hope you don't spot any more doggo bears on your ride. 😉🤣
I never know if viewers get the humor that happens after the moment because at the time I’m being serious. Thanks for the helpful feedback!
That is just the best rant ever at the beginning of the vid, I've watched it 3 times, it is all so true.
Your comment brought a huge smile to my day! I just went back to watch it after what you said! HA! My mouth can't keep up with my brain...or maybe it's the other way around. 🤔 Thanks for watching and sharing feedback Lee! 🤗
I thought you were going to keep singing like Julie Andrews.. I mean the scenery is fitting for “The Sound of Music!” :))) Good job Stock!
Haha, John, funny - I was seriously just going to comment on Naomi's singing and saw your post. How fitting. Who knew that Naomi is such an excellent songstress? And she can ad lib lyricks too. Julie Andrew's a over again!!!
Stay tuned for my one act musical! 😉
That is a good ride. I have not done off-road cycling. It was all paved roads, about 34,000 miles and loaded in 19 countries.
Hey John! Yes - you have done some incredible and truly admirable cycling trips!
@@HumanontheLoose that's what you do you good looking young woman.
So the single track scared the bejesus out of me; looked like one false move in some places and you were a goner.😮 Your travels have peaked my interest in these small gas station/stores. I don't think they are as exciting here as they are out there. Guess I'll have to keep exploring. I think they all carry Hostess Cupcakes, the chocolate ones are my favorite. 🥰
That’s an accurate assessment! 🙂🙃🙂🙃 Just drive to the middle of nowhere and you’ll find one!
Hello Naomi!!!!! What a wonderful place, trail/walk show. It made me want to know ....
Hey Caio!! Want to know what?
@@HumanontheLoose it made me want to hike in this place
Ahh…it made you want to GO. 👍
That singletrack scenery is *gorgeous*! The packing exasperation... well... 😜
Funny thing; while I haven't done long-distance bikepacking like what you're doing, I've ridden short 2-3 day bikepacking trips. And to avoid much of the tetris-like packing issues with bikepacking bags, I went with a bike trailer. There are pros & cons of each, obviously, but the trailer was easier for me for the short trips I've done.
ps. the bear calls.... Hahahaha!!!
Those are pretty awesome but wouldn't work for what I was doing since I was winging it on my route and wanted the freedom to choose where I bike. They are very common and many have done the whole GDMBR with one.
@@HumanontheLoose Totally understandable. I think most bikepackers prefer the bags just for the reason(s) you said. I just know I would get as exasperated as you did if I had to pack & repack bags, too. 😜
Hey Naomi, my mom wanted to know how to find you on UA-cam. Looks like another subscriber 😄 Your shout out from Wayne, Maine on Strava made us smile. Ride with the wind Naomi!🚴♀️🍦🧻 (
So sweet! Hahahaha...that was SO funny! I shared your "meme" comment to folks at a dinner party I'm at and everyone burst out laughing!
Hey Naomi, we had exactly the same experience with an expensive sandwich, but ours was back in 1997, in a little place called Chicken Alaska. I felt so ripped off!!!!!
Hopefully your experience will continue to be from 1997! Ya - it was shocking especially because she said it was "for cyclists"
That singletrack and doubletrack was so beautiful! Brownies wouldn't have lasted long 😄
🎬 🎥 is great as it always is 🤘
Downhills are the best
Cheers 🍻
Ya…wished it was longer! I had 3! 😋 Thank you!
I am a tipper to, Naomi but deffinatelly would make an exception in that case too. (The $10 pay-it-forward tip you left at the one place previously showed compasion.) There is a place and time for everything. This was neither. Hey, you have a wonderful singing voice. Don't be shy with it. Or stingy please.
Do you own that VW? LOVE old bugs!
@@HumanontheLoose yes, she’s a 1965.
Great outcome for the day! Silty lakes are the rule in the Mountain West. I had to learn to appreciate the boulder beaches. I agree with your fast packing biker you encountered in Missoula with his hybrid set-up. It is what I aspire to. Sleek aero bikepacking rigs are the thing for the roots-rock-sack grabbing real single track. The more hybrid set-up is more for the dirt road and occasional single track. I have bivy sacks and use them on day-n-half hikes. Those if you lose a good nights sleep, meh. More than two nights, a real shelter is a must for me. You are doing fantastic and a very real story teller.
Ahhh…so that’s the term. “Silty.” Ya - that makes sense. Thanks for your kind words Rob!
You're flinging trail truths in this one! That's what's missing in this genre of virtual person-powered adventures. It's wonderful how suck and stoke can drift and swirl around each other as the miles go by. You never know. Could be a day of cruise or blues, but a mile is a mile and a day is a day. There it is.
"Doggo Bears", look out for the moo bears in long grass.
Riding thru black bear country, some crazy farmer lets his Black cows eat in the ditches. You ride around the bend to half a dozen large black animals heads down grass up to their bellies along the road.
"Moo Bears" 😂 😂 😂 I"ve spotted those exotic creatures!
Shoving.... U gotta pack it in correctly.... Shoving... Shoving 🤣🤣🤣🤣
I've seen many of your wonderful video's. If I could offer unsolicited advice...take up backpacking for a season or two and discover the ultra light mindset....it will change your life. Its the perfect "less is more" attitude to really kick up your bikepacking adventures. It was heart breaking to see you lamment over "packing all the stuff". Cheers
"Unsolicited advice" is always the best advice and great advice yours is!! 👏 I was going to backpack for Season Two but took the mountain bike hot springs choice instead for reasons mentioned in "What Is My Next Bikepacking Adventure."Now in Thailand with neither a bike or backpack. 😳 Maybe 2024. Looking forward to more great advice!

“Naomi Grand Adventure” I love it! 🍻👊🦄
Don't get hooked up on the idea that panniers are for pavement, plenty of us 'packers' use them both on and off road.
Yes - I've seen you guys/gals out there but never on single track. Don't the panniers hit the bushes? I mean - maybe I'd be fine?
@@HumanontheLoose Your front fork bags are just as wide as the panniers, do they hit the bushes? I've ridden single track with panniers, as long as you have a decent pannier rack and bags you'll be fine. Loving the videos, keep them coming.
Oh! Ok. Well then - I'll have to give it a try! Thanks for your input and kind words!
another great "period" driven adventure ... LOL
🤣🤣🤣 I alllllmost edited it out BUT then knew it was society getting into my brain as my natural choice would be to keep it. Hence the outcome.
7:00 10 dollars for that tiny sandwich? she doesn't like cyclists, avoid, cancel her
