which branch of service should you join

  • It depends on what you want to achieve. My perspective is strictly from financial success for you to get what you need and dip out.
Now, what do I mean by "get what you need"
    - Education, money, title, money, escape, etc
For you to get maximize on any of these, what you need is personal time.
Meaning, you're not out in the world and about doing manual labor.
Now, this is mainly going to be luck, but you can increase your chances.
Army, Marines, you could get lucky but majority of the time you could just be sent out in the field and freaken survive.
Navy, you could be on some land if you're lucky or you could be freaken out at sea for 10 months like I was.
Air Force, is the place I would recommend but I've seen plenty of people get sent overseas to hostile places.
    Honorable mention
    Coast + Space.
From my observations and conversation, I haven't served all branches. Your best bet is Air Force #1 and Navy #2.

I was close to joining the Marines in the reserves as I’m turning 33 and qualify to be an Officer since I have a Master’s degree. The only thing that stopped me was that after OCS I’d be required to do 6 months of more training. Which means I’d have to leave my job completely. I work in private practice so that means discharging all my patients. If it was only the 10 weeks then I’d be down to join.

The Space Force is a thing too. Get your Top Secret clearance, free Associate's Degree for basically learning your job, use Tuition Assistance straight away to knock out your Bachelor's Degree, get out in 4-6 years and make $100,000/yr doing the same job.

Army has a crap load of down time, even more so in combat arms they talk about what they do all day but when they are not in training cycle they are home all the time!! I was a support guy, come home for lunch their home, swing by home headed to finance as it was close to home they were already drinking!!

The army is childish, trust me, cringey, etc. Don't go army and army is the lesser version of the marine corps. So go air force.

No, not the Navy! from personal experience. I was always out to sea on underways, working long, ridiculous hours, Duty duys, with no personal time. Keep in mind other branches don't have Duty Days. Duty days in Navy make you stay on the ship for 24 hours and you can't leave, this is in port! My father served in the Army, and I grew up a military brat, witnessing his daily life as a Ranger qualified soldier with the 160th SOAR and 82nd Airborne. My father got off before 5 at reasonable times, went home. He couldn't believe the hours, watches, and optempo I had in the short time I was in the Navy for 4 years. I never got to work on any education in the Navy, lost personal time. I had friends in the Air Force who got their education right away by getting degrees in Air Force school. Had a friend in the Army he's been in 4 years never deployed. I went on a short deployment with Marines; many had never went on a deployment some six years into their career. I remember talking to a Marine unit on our amphibious ship, and a guy said he extended his six-year contract to do a 4-month "deployment" with us. I didn't even consider it a deployment. I spent nearly 3 years going out to sea on underways and deployments in my time in the Navy. Don't join the Navy!

I wish I would have had this as a resource before I went in. I used my one-and-done enlistment as a stepping stone, but luck was indeed a huge factor. I don't disagree what he says about Air Force and Navy being the best bet - especially if you don't have a lot of people close to you sharing any personal experiences with the U.S. military.
