All lasers are bad, but green lasers, especially cheap ones, use what's called a photon pump diode.
Tl;Dr Green lasers are worse because they're actually strong IR lasers.
The laser basically takes ~850-900nm light and splits it into 350sh and 500ish NM light and then filters out the unwanted wavelengths. The issue is that the IR is passed directly through the beam splitter and without good shielding will output a shitload of IR. Some green lasers output more IR than green due to filtering and this means it won't trigger your blink reflex and can beam you for multiple seconds causing eye damage.

I only play with Red lasers that are less than 1milliwatt as I’ve found most sites blanket ban green lasers which are always more than 1mw due to their nature.
Regards - how do we know how powerful a players laser is? I take a copy of the manufactures instructions with me so I can prove my power output rather than the site say I cant use it. So the rule should be no many spec no laser.
It’s about responsible behaviour. Any player pointing a focused beam into an opponents face needs ejecting/banning and dealing with properly (I’d suggest just outside the car park of the site you are playing).
I’ve found that lasers used properly In a CQB environment can be used to stop an advance simply by overtly putting the dot through a door way for the opposition to see and have a think about if they want to breach an assumedly ready opponent giving your team time to reassemble or push a different route.
IMO They have their place when used properly.

Good shout on the ‘doorway’ laser. Little bit gamey for my tastes but I can see the use.

I'm gonna counter and say that you should always have a light on your rifle, even in woodland. If there's a dark shady part or even a structure, having a light would be nice.

    • @AnvilAirsoftTV
      @AnvilAirsoftTV  Рік тому

Can’t really argue with that. Depends on the site though.

@bigthonk9059 I couldn’t agree more. Why would anyone own a light and choose to leave it In their kit bag back at the safe zone.
I run an Olight warrior 3s on my MTW. 2500 lumen max, strobe and has a step down proximity to reduce wash out in close quarters.

Just started doing night games and using proper night vision myself. I agree, IR lasers have a solid place. Although I am also setup for passive aiming too. But in a pinch, IR laser on, shoot, IR laser off is a bit of a saviour. I am using a Somogear red laser with the high power options locked out.

It’s one of the few areas in airsoft where budget makes a difference but you still have to practise and learn your kit.

Rather a co-incidence. I just got back from a night game where everyone was waving their torches all over the show and ruining my natural night vision.
However, you can't beat a good torch when you are trying not to fall over logs and into muddy ditches.

I used to live in a 7 floor building that was built on top of a hill. The view was great and I could see miles away from my window. One night when I was looking out my window I saw a blue beam coming in thrue my window. I could follow the beam all the way from were is was used. It was about 2 kilometers away, it was a blue laser and the beam was just as sharp where I was in my apartment as it was 2 kilometers away.

I play cqb a lot. I remember when 200 lumens was the highest anyone would want. Then 500. Now it's 1000. I personally use 500. But I feel like it's too much.

Used to use my DBAL @ Drakelow, always always aimed for chest and never for the head when using the IR and that was also on low setting as well. Out of all the airsoft lasers, the G&P DBAL was the best as it holds it's zero, even with my gas AK. Shame it closed down some time ago as no longer use my NV setup. :(

I prefer to ‘build’ mine to how I would have it if it were the real deal rather than game ability. So all my rifles have lights and 1 is running a functional NGAL(I don’t use it on site). So I wouldn’t say my builds are impractical, but definitely looks over gaming.

They should just be banned. Too many idiots buying dangerous lasers. They also serve almost no point for most circumstances. If Im at an event, and someone is using an ir laser, I won't play with them. Way too many people have night vision and all you're doing by using that laser is giving the opposing team a direct line back to you.

I’m not happy with lasers outside of controlled games/scenarios where I trust everyone with one.
