Completely agree Paul. Another place to look is amongst retailers b-stock & ex display items, often these are in as new or very lightly used condition with full warranty but heavily discounted to shift stock. I bought a high end amp for live use in ‘23 at 40% discount from RRP on this basis.
Yeah Paul, would be a great regular video I think. I notice in my ebay messages that buyers in the UK are going to be charged about 4% from Feb 2025 for buying items up to £300 but this is going to be a smaller charge for items above this amount (they havent stated at the moment what this will be) They've said it's to keep the private sellers fees at zero. Not a welcome charge, but better than it was previously when we had the large sellers fees. Cheers, great vid as usual!
A nice addition to your line-up. You could even add other categories like pedals and acoustic guitars etc.. Happy New Year Paul from Sunny AZ! btw, the brand new Fender HQ is being built close by here in Phoenix. When it's completed you should consider a visit to check it out! We've got a guest room for ya!
It is certainly a buyer's market right now. Sometimes a great deal can be had on new items in the store, too. My nephew bought a $4900 Custom Shop Stratocaster at a local Guitar Center for $2000 on a clearance sale. They thought it may have been priced wrong, but it all checked out. he got a heck of a deal!
Paul, I know this is kind of off topic and I said it the other day but rewatching that PRS bengal striped at guitarguitar it’s beautiful. Congrats on 100,000 subs. I’ve been here almost for quite some time now. That Knaggs is nice.
These seem to be the exception rather than the rule at the moment, I'm seeing people putting CS guitars up on Ebay for more than they sold for new and just leaving them at that price.
@@unclebungle1981 yeah I’m seeing that too, but the more I look I keep finding CA guitars for £500 less than a similar guitar would have been 6 months ago.
Brilliant idea Paul, I live in Thailand & the prices for used here have virtually doubled in the last year, some bargains still to be had but Fender CS is most sought after & even ordinary fellas are asking shop prices which is stagnating the market..
Thank you for the information, Paul. Like anyone afflicted with GAS, I'm always interested in what's happening in the gear market. It's just inherently fascinating. .
I got some killer deals this month. My local shop was doing 10% off everything in their store with a combined purchase of at least $250, including used and discontinued items. I got a Fender Bassbreaker 007 for $315 and a Fulltone ChoralFlange for $126. Also I found a MXR Phase 90 for $30 at Guitar Center.
Great video Paul, thanks. Any chance in the future you could do a 'buying used, buyers guide' as you've bought a lot of used stuff on both the usual sites, your experience is invaluable , it would be great to learn what to watch for and how not to potentially get ripped off.
@@robert-wr6md I just never say never. However, The statement "never" does not warrant a comment like yours which indicates that it is laughable because it's not.
The guitars that can be found cheap in the us are beginner guitars like epis, mim fenders/squires and chinese jacksons. They price high but you can offer 50% or even less and they take it. If u like those starter gits.
Bargain #2 doesn't include the case (even though the case is in all of the photos), and it's had after-market routing to accommodate a humbucker but it's being sold with three non-original unidentified pickups on a non-original pickguard. Maybe it's terrific but I'd probably tread carefully when people have done "stuff" to what presumably started life as a great guitar.
I have a feeling the used amp market is going to go way down in the next six months or so. I am always watching Facebook marketplace in Reverb and things like that and hardly anyone is buying them.
This is a great idea for a video. That Carvin Legacy is a great amp but if you use a footswitch make sure any Carvin amp you buy includes it because some of their footswitches are not easy to come by except when they're already with the amp. Carvin doesn't make amps anymore, so no brand new footswitches, either. I'm still looking for a footswitch for the Legacy 3 I have. I think it does have MIDI so if you have something like a GigRig G2 or G3 you should be able to use that to change channels but otherwise you're out of luck.
Sounds like a great idea but I already spent a fortune on several guitars last year and I ain't buying another one anytime soon. Also, custom shop or not 2000 pounds is still a lot of money for a lot of people to spend on a second hand guitar. Heck even with the Carvin amp I'm not sure how great of a deal that's actually gonna be. Buying an old tube amp for little money can cost you in the long run, I've had that happen with an old Fender amp recently after all. Thanks for the video and the suggestions in it but I'll stick with my 6 solid body guitars, my 2 tube amps and the 30+ pedals I got over the years thank you very much. Last thing I'd wanna do is spend more money on stuff I'll barely use only to sell it off later ...
This all ends in tears when someone unwittingly buys a Chibson (or similar) on your recommendation. I wouldn't be recommending things that I can't verify the authenticity of.
Dear Paul, thanks for featuring the lefty guitar. However, the one you featured is not really desirable as it’s got a 7.25 radius. A 9.5 radius would be much more popular.
Paul - great video., enjoyed it. Thank you. I am a relative newbie to Studio Rats and loved your videos on the PRS Studio which looked and sounded (in your hands) fantastic. However, I know you sold it but wondered whether there was something major that didn't work for you, or was it just time to move it on? It looks like a "Swiss Army knife" which may work for my needs, hence the question. Thanks again for all the amazing videos.
I tend to buy mid range guitars ($800-$1200) and fiddle with them. Like Charvel SoCals, things like that. Should I stop and go up the scale ? Like into the USA lines? Maybe get used higher end instruments instead? I tend to keep my guitars many years.
I’ve been shopping for the best T style guitar under a 1000. Still looking after two weeks. Thinking between a reverend double agent or a Schecter nick Johnston? Still looking for more options.
The UK market is cheap compared to Europe, US is also full of deals... but FB marketplace in the UK is a massive deal grabber. That's how I built my collection as well.. Gibson custom shops for half the price
Problem with buying a tube amp on eBay is you have no idea what state it’s in. You could end up spending another few hundred on new valves and a service.
Ebay charges too much in fees and sales percentage!, it's unbelievable that Ebay/Paypal still have the monopoly for used gear and after almost 30 years no better options exist, depending on the country there might be local options who don't charge as much fees and sales percentages but it'd be great if there would be better options that also offer paying in crypto, usually the best deals are found locally where you can pay the seller directly without extra fees and no IRS-tax involvement
@@TheStudioRats great, here in Spain they charge 15% on top of another 21% VAT plus the Paypal commission plus the percentage of capital gains to the spanish tax agency, in general Spain is a tax hell
Yeah, right now in the UK, and I assumed across Europe, since about 6 months ago, eBay scrapped all fees for private sellers. I believe that changes again to a new fee model in Feb.

You’d be surprised, not everyone is suffering, my buddy owns a car stereo store and he’s booked for 3 months from customers that want to install 2000.00 hi end systems in their cars
Why are we gauging the guitar market on Reverb sales? That's just dumb. Nobody in their right mind would buy an amp from Reverb for obvious reasons. I would argue that no one in their right mind should use Reverb at all. For anything.
Good luck finding quality left handed guitars with all the options you guys take for granted (i know you showed one) .... AND!! is it possible the fact that there is nowhere to play and nobody is interested in music so much anymore hence the cheap prices...
I see nothing too special here. These are niche instruments that not too many people would be interested in. And in that price range I personally stay away from eBay and Reverb. The Dr. Z looked ok. The rest? Meh.
Not expecting to buy any new guitars for awhile in the last month I bought 2 brand new Kramer Nightswans for $599 each.I just could not pass up those deals.I got the Aztec and the blue dots. The parts alone on the guitars are worth more then I paid for the whole guitar.
