Keith Richards has been reported as saying quote, "if it sounds good play it, if it doesn't sound good don't play it". Thanks Stich for all the excellent lessons.
The “stitch “ is in love with Guitar and teaching . Your enthusiasm shows…it’s infectious !! Don’t keep the stitch a secret..enter and become stitchified !!
This lesson is definitely a lightbulb moment. It has all three of the things I need to reach the next level. It instructs, it explains, then it shows the chords and fingering patterns side by side for each chord. If I can’t play a simple solo within a couple of weeks, I must be brain dead. Thanks a million Stitch!
Yes , this is good and something I have long been seeking, a reasonably simple, overview, of how to achieve satisfying bluesy improv. Thank you Stich . 🙂
You are incredibly gifted. What a great guitar teacher, and even though I don't know you personally (and I wish I did), you are such a good guy. Thank you for your contribution to your followers and to music in general. You make it fun, easy and rewarding to ply guitar at any level.
Love, love, love your channel Stitch. You’re an incredibly generous man. I’ve learned and am still learning a lot from you and I can’t thank you enough. I can feel your passion for the guitar and I’m right there with ya. It’s a beautiful thing. Much respect to you my friend, I hope you have a great 2025.
Halfway through the video and didn’t read the comments. I love you and this tells me that the Dorian scale is truly infact the penultimate bread and butter for gluing tonality together. It’s major and minor, and it’s also the first neighbors in the circle of fifths. Furthermore. We all like mixolydian and aeolian a ton, and Dorian simply bridges that notion. All genres aside, you have top tier content
Stitch is awesome! What makes stitch so good is not just his playing, but it’s teaching… And what makes his teaching so good, is his passion for music and guitar and his concern for other guitarist to better understand! Love you Stitch, been watching for years ! Doug from Denver
I’m slightly better than an absolute beginner, not by much. I started playing a few years ago when I turned 60, I got very frustrated about a year ago and gave up on playing. You’re enthusiastic approach to teaching is making me feel I may need to pick up my guitar again. Gotta get them calluses back
After playing off and on for 40 years ( can't read music) country n rock, I'm now finding Blues is teaching me so much so fast in so many areas...wish I started in blues first...
Been watching you for years. You probably helped me most in hitting that new level i discovered before leaving new levels, now again you do the same. Thank you.
I really appreciate that YT algorithm brought me to your channel years ago, your lessons are always inspiring for grabbing the guitar and play and put you in a Jam mindset. Thanks for your work! 🤙🤙
Good stuff. Have been doing online videos and lessons for 4 years and never heard the double decker analogy. Intuitively I guess that knowledge was imparted with many of the lessons but this is a succinct mental framework, which I think will help a lot. Thank you. I’ll be back to the channel...subscribing now!
WOW😮. THANK YOU!! I've played guitar for 40 years, professionally, studied at University level but I've always struggled with improv.. THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU... unbelievably awesome.. I can't thank you enough. 10 minutes of your video has wiped away a lifetime of confusion. I can't wait to apply this to the caged system.. I've literally just been struck by a lightning bolt.. 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
Holy shit! One of the TOP 3 teachers on the tube and we r talking about his teeth?? All in good fun! Thank you Ian for helping me become a guitar player vs. someone who plays guitar...fav vid is when u thought you poisoned yourself on bug spray! Best to you and your lovely family!!!!!
Love the enthusiasm. However................ for me improvisation is designed to move away from the predictable patterns that you mention. Music should have a lot of surprises. So yep ,learn the patterns ,but then bust 'em up in interesting ways.
Awesome video. Really makes perfect sense. Subscribed. Where can I get software to make fretboard maps like you showed in the video? The color really helps the scales and chords easier.
I appreciate your videos, Ian, thank you. Do you have an equivalent method for teaching phrasing? Playing all the right notes can still sound pretty lame if one doesn’t have a good sense of how to create musical sentences and paragraphs that tell a story.
I don’t know how to explain this. But I have been practicing scales skipping every note. Tertiarn? So running scales by thirds? Anyway, this instantly unlocked some things for me, triads, extended chords, and getting away from sounding scaly I would like you to explain this to me lol
I teach that on my channel as well, but, just let you know it still is the same perspective happening. The vocal melody consists nearly of all the chord tones sewn together with the scale. It’s all the same thing
How can you not love this guy?
I love this guy
For realz.. Stich is the man
He's my favorite
Best teach on the tube
This has got to be the most wholesome channel on UA-cam. Nevermind the guitar, Stitch is an absolutely awesome dude
I have been watching UA-cam guitar lessons for years and this without doubt is the best and most informative lesson EVER!

Give My Dad a Like!!!💚💚💚...love the energy here brother guitar explorer!

By far the most clear explanation of electric blues "mindset" ever recorded. Nobel prize-level!

I accidentally found my soul playing when I gave up and closed my eyes and let my soul find its way to fill my ears with awesome vibrations
Yes , this is good and something I have long been seeking, a reasonably simple, overview, of how to achieve satisfying bluesy improv. Thank you Stich . 🙂

This is on my immediate to do list. It’s exactly where I am at or at least want to be at. Thanks Stitch 👍🏼
Great video Stich...I've got my scales but still struggling with chord tones. The journey is never ending. Dermot

His name is Stich. Great guy.
This very well could be my favorite guitar lesson video on the internet.

Rock on
I’ve followed Ian’s channel since the beginning and he’s such a great chap!
Man thank you. You're a way of explaining things is the best I've come across.
Pribabely the best lesson ever given.
I miss you stich! Good to see you again. You're my favorite teacher.
Amazing! Way to start off the new year. The patreon practices are perfect, thank you!
After playing off and on for 40 years ( can't read music) country n rock, I'm now finding Blues is teaching me so much so fast in so many areas...wish I started in blues first...
You are absolutely right. Blues teaches you everything. Watch my Blues Primer Playlist
I don't know if it clicked yet, but this definitely got some gears turning. Good lesson. Thanks! To practice!
You had me called out in the first 15 seconds.
You're good dude. 😁
There is much more to the journey of musical improvisation on guitar, but IMHO you nailed the best entry point. Thanks Stich!
Been watching you for years. You probably helped me most in hitting that new level i discovered before leaving new levels, now again you do the same. Thank you.
Don't understand why you don't have hundreds of thousands of subscriptions. Your stuff is always great. Keep it up, Stich!
He has =).
Love the channel. I learn more here than any other channel!! Go Stitch
Best guitar teacher I've come across On you tube.
Marty is cool aswell. 😎
The diagrams are particularly useful and most teachers don’t have them. Thanks.
This is kinda how I’ve been trying to approach it, without really realizing it, so, I really needed this! Thanks, Stich!
Good stuff!😊
Holy crap, Stich!! 💡 Light bulb moment for me! I'm going to have to watch this again since there's so much info. But, OMG! Thank you! ✌️
I really appreciate that YT algorithm brought me to your channel years ago, your lessons are always inspiring for grabbing the guitar and play and put you in a Jam mindset. Thanks for your work! 🤙🤙
You’re great , tell my students to watch ya ! ✌️🤪🎸

Beautiful guitar
Stitch is back, I love it 🤙🤟
What are those pickups whoaaa
Thanks mate.
Now really convinced! Thank you.
Very useful once again, I will check out your other videos. Thanks.
Pretty cool Stich. Good info to find the major 3rds on the 4 and 5 chords.
When you said that A1 steak sauce bite of blues, you nailed it! SRV solos give me blue cheese face!
HERE!🙋♂️
Thank you for this video! Im still a skeptic, but definitely going to try
Watch my master music formula video and then any of the videos linked below. Let me know and glad to have you
Transformative! Thanks
AWESOME. THANK YOU VERY MUCH.
That is a beautiful guitar
It really is
Great video. Thanks and happy new year, sir.

Love your channel... 1st thing I noticed.... you got a new set...
Love you stich
Thanks again!
Freaking awesome lesson!!
Brilliant video.
Thank you!! I always thought that those notes were “avoid” notes!
Love the enthusiasm. However................ for me improvisation is designed to move away from the predictable patterns that you mention. Music should have a lot of surprises. So yep ,learn the patterns ,but then bust 'em up in interesting ways.
That’s how I taught myself by improvise.
Very well done thank you!
Awesome video. Really makes perfect sense. Subscribed. Where can I get software to make fretboard maps like you showed in the video? The color really helps the scales and chords easier.
PS ~ Hello and happy new year from Glen Cove, Long Island.
First 15 seconds in and I am literally all of those things! XD
Ty sir great lesson, ✌️
Thanks for the video
Thanks for the great advice.
I appreciate your videos, Ian, thank you. Do you have an equivalent method for teaching phrasing? Playing all the right notes can still sound pretty lame if one doesn’t have a good sense of how to create musical sentences and paragraphs that tell a story.
i learned harmony thru a basic do ray me fals so lot tee doe. simple major scale. the sound of music
Heard the ring chime and thought someone was at my front door 😂
Fantastic. Ian is a master at getting concepts across. And his Patreon is always a valuable extension of these YT videos.
Thanks man ❤
Thanks! Great video!
You da man stitch
If only I could have math explained to me the same way you teach guitar
I can help.
Good Stuff!
Ok. U got me
Very good Man :) Thks!
Had I watched this lesson on day 1 of my guitar journey, I would be 10 times the player.
THAT'S MEEEEEEEE!
thanks
That me all in one
Thank you thank you thank you….
Excellent. Seems that major 3rd for each chord is the key.
I don’t know how to explain this.
But I have been practicing scales skipping every note. Tertiarn? So running scales by thirds?
Anyway, this instantly unlocked some things for me, triads, extended chords, and getting away from sounding scaly
I would like you to explain this to me lol
Eureka !
Another way I learned lead, was to play the vocal melody, or find a part of it, to keep returning to.
I teach that on my channel as well, but, just let you know it still is the same perspective happening. The vocal melody consists nearly of all the chord tones sewn together with the scale. It’s all the same thing
People I knew were saying rock n roll was major and minor at the same time but it didn’t hit me till we learned the song “strolling”.
What I meant was “the stroll” by the Diamonds.
I trust you.
