A note about jeggings. I had never purchased them until recently. A friend passed down a couple of pair to me that were two sizes larger than I normally wear. What I noticed is that they fit like actually jeans! I have stretch yes, but the legs don't cling. I love them. Try this trick when you want a skinny jean look.
I'll have to say, the way you go about explaining in style clothing is so friendly compared to other UA-camrs. You seem more realistic to the average woman. I turn off the rich gals. Even if you have money, you're not a snob. Love it!
Thank your for your videos. There is always a gem of wisdom in them. In this video it appears to me that, in general, patterned fabrics tend toward the frumpy look. Most basic solid colors will always look more classy.
As you are explaining why an outfit is not stylish, I'm pausing the video to reflect on my own wardrobe. I'm thinking, "Am I making these outfit mistakes?" And I'm really liking your suggestions on how to make my outfits look better. Great video!😊👍🏼
Honestly you looked great in all the outfits. I think these rules are silly. Styles are popular at different times. They don’t look bad, someone just decided a certain look is “out” for a few seasons. So follow the leaders if you want to be trendy. If you want to look confident and be comfortable, wear what you like and in the proper size. That is my 2 cents.
It’s not that it looks bad. The clothes are fine. Wearing things that are out can age you. Vsauce has this video called “Did People Used to Look Older” that translates well to this point. The answer to that question of course is no. It’s the clothes.
She didn't say it looks bad. It's pretty clealy stated that the point of the video is about how to avoid looking dated with your fashion. If you personally care about that, than these are tips for you. If you're okay with looking dated, that's perfectly fine, do you. Skip the video. 🙄
@@latinfire8833 depends on whose opinion I care about. Random strangers thinking I look dated?! Why would anyone care unless they have low self esteem.
Who gets to decide what is outdated? I think the idea that clothes can be outdated is outdated. I see young pups on IG wearing all kinds if things I would have considered outdated in 1997, and outdated clothes from 1997 😂 If people our own age don’t think our clothes age us, then we’re saying we are dressing so younger people don’t think we look old, and that’s incredibly sad if you think about it. Are we really going to start wearing 90s again to be on trend? I don’t think I can do it. 😂
For any DIYers in here, you can add shape to these loose tops (the orange one at the beginning, and the one at 8:30 ) by adding rows of shirring around the waist or under the bust, whatever suits your fancy to match your body type. However, what I think would REALLY suit tops such as the orange top (all solid colour) is honeycomb smocking! It adds shaping and a geometric design while still being stretchy. But it’s very time consuming because it can only be done by hand. No sewing machine! But the end result is so beautiful and elevated. I urge you to take a look at couture smocked dresses for inspiration. Don’t think of little girls’ dresses. Smocking done right for a woman’s figure looks very sophisticated.
You can also add a little tuck if needed. I wear a lot of full button shirts because they're easy to modify (don't need to worry about ease quite so much). I often put a little tuck in the back to make it sit better since I (and indeed many women also) have a sway back ❤️
I love your trouser pants! they make your legs look really long because they aren’t cropped, and they are very flattering because they aren’t too baggy, just baggy enough.
enjoyed watching your video. My thoughts about dressing (given I like what I'm wearing) are basically this: -when wearing separates like pants/skirt and top, if the top is more loose and blousy, I will choose a more close fitting pant or skirt. Then the opposite for a close fitting top (like a bodycon or knit top), I will choose a more loose fitting pant or skirt (skirt more a-line or gathered for flare). The other element I use is to do with proportion - like the 1/3 and 2/3 rule. When adding a jacket or sweater coat, I have found that tucking in tops at the waist offers the best solution for the style and proportion. And I too agree with Cheri that all your outfits looked great.
Just saw this video for the first time. Although it’s from 8mo ago it’s still very relevant and helpful! I really appreciate the examples of both good and bad styles. Nothing’s worse than hearing you’ve got it all wrong and not knowing how to change it.
Not only do I have a bit of a tummy, I am short waisted. (My back neck to waist length is 15".) Just to make it more challenging, I am large busted - DD cup. On the rare occasions I tuck in a shirt, I "blouse" it a lot. Untucked shirts really do flatter me.
I think you've hit on something in the part at the end! I had my son 10 years ago (next month! WOW!) and I've apparently been trying to duplicate my old style this whole time. Not with the same clothes, but the cuts, colors, etc. My chest and hips are bigger, my waist and ribcage are smaller - it's like I'm a more exaggerated hourglass, and every piece of clothing out right now is baggy and making it worse. This was really helpful, I think you can even probably dive deeper into this for more content!
I agree about pants, I’ve been talking all of my friends out of their capri’s for 10 years now 😂😂. But I really have to disagree about the classic crew neck tee. I don’t think they look very flattering on a large bust and I tend to think they only look good the small boobed gals. I think classically, even a slight v neck looks better on busty women. The crew neck tee is really a “trend” for the last few years that big boob gals are going look back in pictures at and wonder what they were thinking. Personally, they make me look much larger than I am, and I’m quite slim.
You did a great job. I'm a retired teacher, lots of frumpy clothes! Now I live in a beach town, do walk in the sand. Days I don't Iwill wear ankle length and cuter sandals!! A picture is worth a thousand words!! I will look more stylish at outdoor cafes!!
You look awesome in all the outfits!! I have a crush on orange this spring, and it looks like you like it too! The pillow looks intriguing...may have to cover with a LilySilk pillow case for more wrinkle protection.
I'm literally wearing one of the shirts you said was a no...the blue floral from Target. I do have it tucked in though and I love it. If you even out the cords they won't look so odd the way you had it. You can also push the bead up higher, reknot it and cut off the excess length. lol
I love the suggestions. I know they aren’t as flattering but I love the cropped mid to lower calf. I have a really nice pair of cropped jeans from Target that bought last year and I will wear them this spring and summer. The floral stuff can be really tricky. I basically stay away from floral. I love your pointed flats by the way!
I think they can be OK, at times when they are in style. Like in the 1950's they probably looked darling. But right now, when you wear something of the sort, its so jarring, and tells such a style story, that people automatically have ideas about you, and then the fact that unless you have wonderfully shapely and slender calves and ankles it will not likely look good, even now when kick flares are trying to come back its tricky. Prints are tricky. You can always tell cheap ones from expensive ones just by how crisp they are, and how they are done. I love plaid tennis skirts, but I cant buy the 40 dollar ones from Halara. I have to spend 100 or so from Alo Yoga or Beyond Yoga because of how the print itself looks, and how its sewn. It'd just a little bit more money, but it makes all the difference. When you have any kind of print, you have to spend just a little more so thy actually line it up, and do it at least decent.
Floral is really a style personality if you're a romantic style personality you will love it if you're not you won't also you have to wear a print based on your size petite =small print average =average print grande= a bigger print which is why Anna does not suit the large print I think she is too short to carry it off :)
I have a couple of capri pants as well and they look great on me and i actually have really muscular calfs from just daily walking so they do stop at a wide point on my leg. I dont know why they look good on me but i often get complimented on them as well because depending on what you pair with, they can be great office pants or casual street wear. I watched a buch of influencers point out capris as a never wear item. I could litterally be at gathering be the only 1 in capris and receive positive outfit feedback lol.
You look great in all the showed outfits, even wearing the one with the big flowers because the shape and colors match with your color skin, size, hair, etc. Thanks for the video, pretty colors and clothing!
I love this video. It's so helpful and also quite a relief to see how even you aren't flattered by those outfits! Also, that bright navy is lovely on you.
You hit the nail on us buying stuff, then life happening, then at one point we're looking into it again and it feels like we need a refresh. I decommissioned almost all my skinny jeans and bought 3 pairs of leather and suede pants plus a pair of trousers in a more modern cut and it feels like it completely changed my wardrobe. All the rest remained the same, I still use the same sweaters and if I used blouses I'd have the same ones (rolling my eyes at ironing). Thank you for the tips, I'll have to see what tops I have that are weather appropriate and can be tucked in. I find that replacing the cardigans with an open fleece jacket makes a person look younger, more human and abordable and the right cut can still be stylish.
Could you please release a video about shoes only... I mean what is good or bad for specific clothes (like jeans, different type of trousers, leggings, mini/midi/maxi skirts or dresses)
I really appreciate the time you took to demonstrate these so well! I disagree a bit about the florals; I think the tiny print ones date just like the big ones do. It's just that we're in a tiny florals moment. I remember flipping through racks of blah calico in thrift stores during the 90s. My rule of thumb is that a print has to make me fall HEAD OVER FEET IN LOVE before I will buy it. I have ONE printed blouse in my spring wardrobe. I personally think the best floral prints incorporate many many shades. If you pay attention, the cheap ones seem to stick to three colors and look flat.
I'm plus size and unfortunately most of my weight is in my stomach. Imagine you looking a little bit pregnant but 24/7. I can't do fitted skirts (unless I want to show it off), or French tucks or shirts tucked in. I know it's probably out of style but peplum tops look best on me since it hides my midsection. Also skinny jeans look best on me, wide leg/boyfriend trousers look horrible on me. My body is super curvy so even though I'm still wearing old styles, I'm trying to not look frumpy as well.
It is so much challenging for anyone larger than a size 8! I am small on the top and a size 14 on the bottom with a tummy and I'm 68 years old, so I have many challenges. Most of the outfits she showed would not look good on me!
I am 5ft. 11in. So jeans and normal pants are above the ankle on me...and skinny jeans??🙄😶. Big no no because I have stork, or chicken legs that show every knobby knee and my legs look like columns...so maxi skirts are my go to with a white sneaker and I'm done. Here in Queensland it's impossible to find anything for tall sizes so I improvise...😊. If only the wide trousers came long they would be great....
You can leave the tops out if you wear a more fitted shirt. Also, to tame your belly consider going gluten free and also low carb (so not replacing with a ton of GF carby foods) I had a big belly my whole life (thin everywhere else) and could never tame it until I banished wheat and just limited my GF breads and pasta.
Love my Sleep Glow so much, I now own 2, one for home and one for travel! These pillows are great for side sleepers. It took me a couple weeks to fully transition. If you flop around at night, just be sure to return to the edge of the pillow AND consider adding a S&G silk pillow case. A normal size/shape won't fit properly. Your hair and skin will thank you.
@@thelittleskipper4794 I love this pillow so much. I find it to be extremely supportive and comfortable. Unfortunately, I cannot comment on its comfort for stomach sleepers because I have only used it for back and side sleeping.
At 61 years old I wear what is comfortable and classic. I refuse to wear high heels. I’m really not concerned about what others think. I need arch support and do not wear pointy toe shoes, no matter how flattering some say they are.
Hi darling! Great video! I wear Ralph Lauren here in California and I just wear The oxford shirts untucked and loose, its the most comfy. Tucked in blouses are not comfy
@@ANNAREID29 Hi. Do you guys know that Chaps is a Ralph Lauren brand? Kohl's and Penny's used to carry it (but no longer do). It is available at Belk and some other stores.
Thank you for these videos. I’m going to be 40 this year and I still struggle with my outfits. I want to start updating my wardrobe with a lot of the pieces you recommend.
That side part looks terrific! Thanks for another well thought out piece. Your observations about frumpy vs current make sense. The only garment example I disagree with is your tulip wrap skirt in a mauve print, ca. 7:10. With the right top it could look fantastic. The color would have to be in a less contrasting color and depth, and the texture should be slinkier. For example, a gathered silk halterneck in a muted color from the print. A flutter sleeve top with a fitted bodice. A shoulder padded tank for width at the shoulder. A racerback ribbed tank. A body hugging sheer turtleneck over a fitted cami, maybe. A body shaping top, I guess, to de-frump the volume of fabric on the bottom. Your dog said, "Who are you calling frumpy?"
Very helpful! I have found that the tuck definitely looks better than when I leave my shirt untucked. I now usually tuck my shirt just off to the side, and find that it does not highlight the tummy I'm trying to minimize. And as for prints, another UA-camr said the prints one can always feel comfortable in are stripes or polka dots, and I'm now following that as I try to build and update my wardrobe.
I love love love your Chanel. It I’m 56 and look stylish and fit and receive compliments all the time. Looking “old” is based on agism and assumptions about aging. I hope you can think about this and also how you caption things related to aging in future videos❤

So many great tips! I especially like the tips about wearing dresses and skirts as that is something I used to be very good at incorporating into my style, but after studying IT with mostly just guys for six years I completely lost for a lazy style consisting of mostly black skinny jeans and simple tops. I now only wear straight and a bit looser styles of trousers, but I still have a way to go.
I was in IT for 30 years & your right.. developers are some of the plainest dressers out there. Set yourself apart by embracing your style! A well dressed , chic presentation And can code too will take you farther❤
@@christineanne7834Thank you! ❤️ My style is in constant development, but it’s definitely a lot better than it was half a year ago and it’s still getting better. I find that I have a better sense of self, and the times I’ve tried to wear the almost mandatory sneakers to work it feels wrong. Jeans, sneakers and fleece jackets are banned from my wardrobe, and all in all my wardrobe feels more cohesive. I might be a bit over dressed at times compared to my colleagues, but I feel comfortable and definitely like me.
Great video. I have a very non-fashion question for you - what is the color on your walls by the stairs? Where you are showing the too much layering (red shirt and black/white sweater)? I love the color and am ready to paint! Thank you!

Love your hair and makeup! Wow! Also, great illustrations (showing what you're talking about) on the clothes (as usual)!
Glad you liked this one, Deborah! ❤️
I LOVED the end!! Soooo true!!
Wow, you look awesome in all the outfits! I have a crush on orange this Spring...you like it too, it seems. The pillow looks intriguing. M
Exactly - this is great if you're skinny enough to do the tuck in, but doesn't work for the majority of the population.... Disappointing....
Me too
Skinny jeans, ankle length, with a peplum tops suit me the best. I can't tuck either.
Great video, dear Anna! You look wonderful! Very nice blue shirt! Love it, when you are wearing vibrant, lively colours.
Low Carb is fine, not necessarily GF unless you have Celiac Sprue or Sensitivity
Hi...do you think it would be comfortable for a stomach sleeper?
@@thelittleskipper4794 I love this pillow so much. I find it to be extremely supportive and comfortable. Unfortunately, I cannot comment on its comfort for stomach sleepers because I have only used it for back and side sleeping.
At 61 years old I wear what is comfortable and classic. I refuse to wear high heels. I’m really not concerned about what others think. I need arch support and do not wear pointy toe shoes, no matter how flattering some say they are.
That red floral is actually nice for you
Hi darling! Great video! I wear Ralph Lauren here in California and I just wear
The oxford shirts untucked and loose, its the most comfy. Tucked in blouses are not comfy
Love their Oxford shirts.
Love RL! ❤️❤️
@@ANNAREID29 Hi. Do you guys know that Chaps is a Ralph Lauren brand? Kohl's and Penny's used to carry it (but no longer do). It is available at Belk and some other stores.
Anna!!! Your pup!!! Is adorbies!!! Looks sooo much like my lil pupperino!!!
Happy Spring, tra la… great ideas. Thanks, Gloria
great video, Anna!
you have such a nice personality and i really like your sense of humor. its so refreshing to see it on youtube
Thank you so much! ❤️
I love oversize and baggy! My favourite look.
Lol love this, Sanni! ❤️
I agree with this.
visual examples were excellent.
I love your hair and making this video! Team side part FOREVER!
You look fab in the red maxi dress!
I wouldn't mind looking like your dog! Cute, cute, cute....Adorable.
Great info. Just need affordable options as well. Thx😊
i love how practical this video is.
Waves and a side part! It looks so good on you!!
Thank you, Becky! ❤️
Your new hair style looks fanTASTIC on you! I need to have waves.
Anna, I received my bird belt and I LOVE it! There is no frumpiness aloud in my world! Thanks for the GREAT video and Happy Sunday :) ❤Elle
Lol this is awesome! 🙌🙌🙌
I love your makeup and hair. Thanks again for another awesome video. Your channel is one of my favs. Love your fun and funny energy. :)
Thank you, Carmela! ❤️❤️❤️
I love love love your Chanel. It I’m 56 and look stylish and fit and receive compliments all the time. Looking “old” is based on agism and assumptions about aging. I hope you can think about this and also how you caption things related to aging in future videos❤
Wow wee, love the hair and makeup look today!
Thank you, Lisette! ❤️❤️❤️
Thank you for these wonderful informative positive videos! These videos are just that, informative, you take it or leave it. I personally love all your videos and great personality. Thank you for sharing.
Love your hairs with the curls, you’re so cute. Thanks for sharing and encouraging us to be our best
Glad you liked this, Brenda! ❤️
I’m loving your side part! Beautiful!
Your dog is adorable
Love your hair cut. Your makeup, hair and purple shirt look amazing!

Always happy to see ways I can improve my style
❤️❤️❤️
Thank you for the time you put into this video. It is really helpful to see the differences between the outfits.
Sweetie you looked good in the dos and the don’ts
Wow! I love your hair! Looks so nice on your complexion. Healthy, shiny, and great styling.
Great video. I have a very non-fashion question for you - what is the color on your walls by the stairs? Where you are showing the too much layering (red shirt and black/white sweater)? I love the color and am ready to paint! Thank you!
This was a great video. Your updated outfits look more chic and modern. I am guilty about making some of the mistakes you mentioned.
See Ms Reid!! We , no, I LOVE the side part in your hair! Your advice.., so smart. Thank you!
Thank you so much! ❤️❤️❤️
Thank you for the encouragement!
Your hair looks super cute and fresh!
Awesome video! I’m 37 and starting to look into this topic more and more.
