    Okay, I started off thinking, Oh I can just get one ruler and it'll be fine. Ha! A collection it is! Really fun using shelly this week. But, the best thing I have discovered may just be that....when I cut the last two fingers off my gloves, I can hold my glass of wine much better.

    Questions: In your sample you have arcs coming out of the waves, are these quilted first or after the waves? Also, what is the best email to contact you, I have a question about you teaching a lesson? Thank you I have learned so much and love having the guided practice. Built skills and confidence. Very well done!!!!

    So, how can we do these designs with other rulers? Like the “orange peel” shape you showed? Thanks.

    So on a sewing machine, I was told to always start in the middle, but it looks like you started at the end. That would be so much easier.

    • @quiltingnerd
      @quiltingnerd 3 роки тому

      I start in the middle because this is the hardest point but sometimes it depends on the quilt. In addition, i found that there is always a shift of layers in the quilt sandwich. If you start in the middle you cannot skew your quilt. That happend to me once....

    Do you not have to baste your quilt, batting and backing together before you start quilting it.

    Angela. I am having an issue with the foot jumping a bit. Does that mean my point if contact is not secure against the ruler. I am quilting on a longarm. I am also finding I have to adjust my foot up as my needle will stick in the seams and wknt go up and down. Help!

  • @kimbleiler4373
    @kimbleiler4373 3 роки тому

    I have a couple of issues using rulers. One is that I have a low shank machine and I saw that you have new rulers for that. The second is bulky seams. Ugh. I iron to the dark side. Do you press your seams open?

    Finished the top for a dresden plate block. The " plates" . were hand pieced by my grandmother. They were given to me by her daughter{my aunt}. Both are now gone. I really want to quilt it on my machine but I am afraid I will ruin it. Any suggestions for the quilt pattern, Love your show

    I am wondering about thread color. When a design crosses over two fabrics should the thread match the lighter or the darker fabric?

    • @pamelasimanek4360
      @pamelasimanek4360 3 роки тому

      This is a good question. I have 3 quilts with pieces that crosses over, so anxious to hear some suggestions. I did quilt an overall design using variagated thread and it turned out pretty.

    Angela great video learning alot but my comment refers to FMQ. Is it right to reduce your speed on your machine & press your foot pedal to the floor for FMQ? I have heard about this & had questions about it. Thanks Shirley

    • @sharonhalderson9263
      @sharonhalderson9263 3 роки тому

      The main key to good looking stitches with FMQ is to make sure your fabric moves slower than your machine. It doesn't matter what speed your machine is. I do find that my quilting looks better at a medium speed because it seems like if my machine is going full bore I tend to move my fabric to fast.

    How do I know if I need a high or low shank ruler/

  • @ibrockinrobin67
    @ibrockinrobin67 3 роки тому

    You make it look so easy. But I noticed how tight your hands were pressing to hold the ruler sturdy. Do your hands hurt and how do you feel with it? I'm 53 and "Arthur" is starting to make things more difficult.

    • @ibrockinrobin67
      @ibrockinrobin67 3 роки тому

      @Karen S how ling have you been doing it? I'm just buying my first machine...don't even have it yet. I'm wondering if those little handles would help? I'll need to see how much space I have. Maybe I can just slide my hand in the handle. 😉 Thanks for the tips. 😊

    I guess what I don't like after watching the videos, is that you don't pin or spray baste to hold your top smooth. I keep noticing how when you are showing how to do the quilting you are getting bunching of the quilt top. How do you avoid this???

  • @barbgreen5195
