This video was my intro to 3D modelling. 3 years later i'm now setting up my own wearable art fantasy sci-fi fashion brand and I'm fluent with 3D modelling, printing, animation and VFX. Thank you for the great introduction to this world and for helping me to discover & kickstart my passion! 💛 These past 3 years have flown by so quickly. Also happy to answer any modelling questions you might have just drop me a message.
@@KamuiCosplay thank you again 😁💛 and me neither I never would have expected this at the time either haha! I hope to inspire others when I create videos about my artwork the same way you guys inspired me (also I hope you're enjoying Japan!)
I don't deserve to watch this for free. The ways you took on modeling from a reference is the same way we did in school, just that you managed to smack it all in in a 35 min long video. And you've only used it for months? Man, you're a genius. Well done and thank you a lot, I learned some tips and tricks from this video. Especially the part about how to make something hard-surface (the way you played around with the Mean-crease), which even our school didn't add in! Once again thanks for the video and god bless your modeling and tutoring skills!
Trevia Hush. Silence. DON’T tell him that ... Are you crazy!?!? Now he will start charging for his excellent content. And it will be all your fault! Pitchforks at the gate young man. 😀. Seriously, I could not agree with you more. I am just starting myself and this is hands down the best video on modeling I have found. A really excellent video.
This one video just undid a whole college semester’s worth of negative (graphic design related) emotions. Thank you giving me the confidence to start experimenting with 3D modeling again!
Dude I swear that 6 hours ago. I was having a problem with a model I made and I was afraid to subsurface divide it because I didn’t want to lose what I created to smoothness. I watched hundreds of videos went to forms. Then randomly watched this video because I wanted to learn how to make helmets. Then boom at 29:50 you solved my problem from earlier😂. Your doing gods work my friend thank you 🙏🏾
I went from looking at Blender's interface with a dull sense of dread to making part of the Paladin Artifact shield in 35 minutes and 37 seconds. This guide was just incredible. Take my kudos, my thanks and my firstborn.
Not to parrot off the other comments but, thank you for actually contributing just the stuff relevant to the title of the video. I actually feel more confident in going into try and model some things now
I used Blender when I was studying my diploma almost 6 years ago now. I actually majored in VFX instead of 3D during my bachelor's degree, but watching you 3D model has really made me want to go back into it! Thank you so much for inspiring me! :D
to be fair, we dont even need to know the interface, since after that, benni just show as step by step how to do everything else xD although it's nice to know where the heck we are standing too xD
And if you already sort of know how to use blender, but might not know everything, go to 29:20 for a tip on how to use mean -crease with sub div surf xd
i hwo a doubt though... maybe some of you guys could help me... In the end, of the video, the model has mass.. it's solid, not a plane.. how do u do that? Since saving a mere plane in stl wont give good results =/
Gon Garcia 26:50 He just extruded the border edges at this point but you have to keep extruding to the inside to model thickness using the same techniques he showed before.
This is a fantastic tutorial, you managed to cover so much in 35 minutes but did it in a way that makes it easy to understand and follow. I found blender to be difficult to understand as the user interface was a lot to get my head around but now I feel I know enough to start modelling. Thanks Benni !!
Only 4 minutes in and can tell this tutorial is awesome. THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!! I am a newbie at Blender and 3D printing and this is such a great introduction. I have bought lots of your books. Thank you, thank you, thank you.
I've nearly made a whole set of armour for 3D printing using the example in the video You done a really gold job getting across how to 3D model. It's opened so many doors for me and saved me having to buy my prints too!
this is EXACTLY what i needed to start using blender. Short, informative, straight to the point, basic use and most importantly the key shortcuts. TYSM!

I did this same thing in 3D Studio Max in 2000-2001 when I was making car models. Blueprints worked great for this. Great to see that it's still done this way. I'm actually thinking of doing this now for miniatures and cosplay items done on a 3D printer. It's amazing what you can do now. Great video!
honestly man you should start a series or channel dedicated to the more tech-y side of cosplay. Your Photoshop Tutorial was great, and this video is amazing and super useful. Most people focus on the whole sewing, foam crafts, painting, wigs side of things but this kind of information is super helpful
If you want the ABSOLUTE Essentials of 3D modeling in blender in general, THIS! is the video to go to! Thank you so much!! I was able to create some of my own cosplay stuff Because of THIS!!!
IVE BEEN BLESSED I’ve been stressing at this prop because my brain just can’t think of it outside of a 2D image. This will be SO helpful for me. And today was the day that I learned that Blender was free, I thought it was a paid for program. 😭
thank you so much! Ive been working with blender for about six months, and this tutorial was really helpful, it helped fill in some blanks I had regarding the software.

Only just came across this video while looking for some reference guides to use Blender and have to say this is one of the best tutorials covering the basics in such a quick and easy to understand method.
I got a 3d printer for Christmas this last year. I've been really intimidated to try teaching myself 3D modeling in blender, but this video makes it seem possible for anyone! Thank you so much for this amazing info. The print piece prep and finishing techniques were also great. Thanks you guys!
Thank you so much for making this topic so accessible!! I was avoiding trying to learn Blender because of the difficult learning curve, but this has made me excited to try it. You guys are awesome!
Great work. It's fun to see how people use Blender for so many different things and especially to see how a "new" user like yourself goes about things. I've been using Blender for 12 years and I still learned some stuff from your video!!!!
I got more information from the first 8 minutes of this video than the first 6 tutorial videos on Blenders on youtube channel. Sometimes I don't need the to know where every tool and sub-tool is yet when I am first getting started. I will discover them as needed and I want to get my hands dirty actually sculpting something. Can you just continue making real world examples of how to use Blender? I am just getting started and this has been, by far, the best tutorial I have seen using their program. Seriously. Even if you make your own channel.
I had tried a few years ago with Blender and I was having some problems getting used to it. Recently I have been using 2.8 Beta and I feel so much more confident with it now after all the changes. Thank you for sharing 8)
So, I was looking for good tutorials on using Blender to make figurines for 3D printing like a month ago, and never found anything that didn't seem overwhelming from the start. flash forward to today, and I know a LOT more about the process, from a half hour video! You rock at this!
I don't even plan on working with Blender in the near future but I watched your video anyways because it's really interesting to see how it's done. Wow!
I’ve been wanting to make my own model for cosplay but was terrified by all of the super long videos but yours wasn’t as long as the others and was really helpful with walking me through blender to start! Thank you so much
Bless this video. You turned something that I always thought was incredibly difficult into something that's really not so bad at all. I successfully modeled an entire Mandalorian helmet using what you taught, and it was the first thing I ever modeled. Thank you!
You can use the solidify modifier to add thickness. Also, if you want to add the same modifier to multiple pieces (like the mirror modifier for example), instead of doing it manually one by one, you can add it to one piece. Then select all the pieces that you want to have that modifier, and the piece that already has it last. Then hit ctrl+l and choose modifiers.
Woooow. I just learned blender a month ago to make anime waifus and literally this morning i thought to myself whether i can use 3D modeling for cosplay. Now i found you answering my question a year early.
Finally! An actual tutorial using simple tools. Blender is so over wehlming. I'm trying to make my first helmet from my 3d head sculpt, it would be cool to see you do a full helmet using the same process.
All nice, but I highly recommend to use some (free) addons to save a lot of time. * F2 Addon for filling the faces * Fast Carve addon (not just because it's from me:-)) for the hard edges and boolean operations. * Before adding the mean crease, go ahead and use the option to select just the sharp edges (Select sharp edges) Anyway, great result, also for the printed parts.
this looked so easy and straight forward! I want to try it right now! thank you very much for this video. I tried to follow tutorials in the older blender version but this 2.8 looks so much friendlier.
This was really helpful! Have some projects that I am looking to work on and I definitely need to learn how to do this! It's great to see this and read the book as well, thanks guys!
You made it seem to easy! I just built the printer yesterday I don't even know how to print anything but I came here to see what you guys were doing with Blender anyway xD

If you use PLA, you have to manually sand the part, depending on the situation (How smooth it came out of the printer) you can apply Spot Putty all over the print and sand it down with an 180 grid sand paper. You can also glue the parts together with krazy glue and baking soda.
Amazing tutorial man. I have been trying to learn Blender for months now to make props I can 3D print and this made things so much easier for me. I really appreciate this video brother, you guys are awesome. Subbed!!
such a well made introduction to the software, can't stress enough how much of a difference blender 2.8 makes compared to 2.79 especially for beginners, it looks like a minute difference on paper but they honestly should have called it blender 3.0 with how much changed
With the mirror thing I prefer starting with a cube on the 0 point and splitting it in half and removing the other half for my perfect mirror ^_^ You can do it with sphere etc. just depends what you’re making! But of course we all find our preferred method. I’m so happy they made a blender video! I’ve been itching to get back to it 😁 And the four dot planes are really important!!!!!! (// you can do the cube trick with the plane as well but I personally like working with cubes)
