So cool. I love that set up. No wonder the mice are happy to stay. What a great concept. Instead of forcefully containing the animal inside a cage, it's the owner's responsibility to make the space so comfortable and wonderful for the animal that it doesn't want to leave.

I have guinea pigs. They are beings that you hafta keep up w/ on the daily, daily. I don't understand how ppl think they smell tho. Their whole physical being is like entirely grass - almost. They pee it, poop it, consume it. Their turds look like the same way they went in. I'm not grossed out they're interested by their own poop. They're vegans too. So it's like I don't think they could make me suck even if they tried. I'm not a scientist or anything. But I'll assume they don't carry any deadly diseases/ bacteria. Don't quote me on that. But I pretty much sleep in the same room w/ them all the time. I'm more likely to sneeze before anything else occurs. Due to the grass (maybe their fur. IDK, but their fur is everywhere...). They smell like nothing. They smell like grass.

You can take that bottom piece off and carve a slit down the middle of the side as an insert groove for plexi glass. You could even just put a half piece of plexi in, where it only goes midway up. That would look really nice and still allow access while preventing jumping when inserted

Such luxury for the dog; she not only has a dog sized cubby but a great big human sized bed!! I love the coziness of the bed nook, if I was the dog I would chose that spot the majority of the time haha. This whole room is awesome, kudos to you for designing such a neat space AND building it yourself!! Two things I'm kinda amazed/surprised by; the fact that the mice don't jump out (but I suppose they *are* quite intelligent animals and jumping out would kinda be suicidal, so it stands to reason that they don't do it unless they are young and stupid lol) and secondly that the dog is so chill around these small little creatures and vice versa - seems like the mice aren't bothered by a big scary dog? I can understand why the cat is no allowed in this room tho! Anyways, I don't know a lot about mice, only ever cared for them once as part of a school project years ago, but your videos are really interesting and adorable! Plus, I love room tours. And this room is really something special; well done!

To help brainstorm a more professional looking plexiglass attachment - maybe you could use strong magnets glued to the other side of the wood? So you don't see them from the front when the plexi isn't attached, but they'll (theoretically) work through the wood and hold up the magnets that you've glued or attached to the plexi.

Best not to unless you have done a lot of research on what all is involved. The biggest danger with breeding is that you can all too easily end up with WAY more mice than you can care for properly and then everyone suffers.

I don’t know how flexible the glass would be to that but it’ll help it blend in more with the aesthetic!

You could make huge drawers to put under the mouse houses so you can reach the things there. So nice to keep the mice in a room where you are yourself a lot, so they don't get lonely. @CreekValleyCritters  4 роки тому +6

As long as I keep on top of the cleaning, there is not much smell. I do currently have one of the oldsters (I do not know who) who is drinking an excessive amount of water and therefore producing more pee, and I have to clean their cage more often than usual to keep odor down. But the Uber bedding does a great job with odor suppression, I just have to keep up with changing the bathmat carpeting and doing spot cleaning. The un-neutered males are though another issue. Archie, Charlie and especially Caleb, can be very stinky and when they are, my studio smells a bit like a barn :P But after the initial hit when you first come into the studio from outside, you quickly adapt and soon no longer notice it. Since it is only me, the mouse room is not part of the house, it is not such a big deal.

    • @amyharr2447

Does the wood not absorb wee odors..? I'm using the ikea glass cabinet for my girls and it's been going great, but they've been using one corner for the toilet.. Where the glass meets the wood, the wood has absorbed the urine and has a darker look, and very strong smell..! 😳 I use hemp bedding which is great but think they'd shuffled it around and had very little in that corner 😕 I also had a little bookshelf the Webster liked to investigate, but had to stop him after I realized the smell 😮 What's the best wood? Do you protect it? How long does it last?

IDK how they differ from g.pigs. I mean, I consider myself a loner... But that doesn't mean I don't ever have guests. Or that I never leave the house. I can smell the difference when I get back 😑. Guests would really tell me. They try to smell... & They smell nothing but grass too. I wouldn't assume mice smell, even as males, but idk what they eat either.
