You should get them at least one more, as they are clearly fighting over it. If you have a group one can get territorial over the only wheel, since its so important to get their energy out.
One of my mouses loved the flying saucer wheel. Unfortunately, as I kept mine on a low coffee table open surface, she flew off her saucer wheel and ended up napping in my laundry pile.
ShyHand Art They’d use the wheel separately all the time but also loved sharing it when it was put back in after cleaning. Never any squabbles over the wheel at all.

Have you ever had a mice get distended bellies? My favorite little male Simon has his belly all swollen and he's a bit clumsy. He's at least a year and a half old, possibly closer to 2. He doesn't show many signs of old age yet, and this is his first major ailment. He had a couple minor respiratory infections when he was younger. I don't want to lose him, but every time I bring a mouse to the vet I pay upwards of $100, and often there's not a great outcome.
Mice can get bloat and vets can help with this, but at his age, my guess is that he has cancer :( If he is chunky all over and still quite active, then he could just be fat. But if it is just his belly, especially if he is showing other signs of not feeling well, then it is most likely a tumor.
Breaking down in parts is helpful, but no need to say sorry for long mouse videos. Always a fun watch =)!!! And they are educational, showing that mice are just little fuzzies that like doing things.
Watching your videos has been very inspiring! Everything looks so pretty and the mice look so happy! What does maintenance look like for a setup like this?
Awww I love to watch them what a great 🐁 . I had a mouse in my house he/she was eating my plant. I gave him cheese and bread 🥖 then I buy a mousetrap but he took of 😬 a friendly trap not a killing trap.
I ve just lost my adored mus musculus names lucky. I am not very experienced even tho I have been reading a lot about mice but unfortunately it was not enough . She started scratching her ears and by the next morning she had a deep huge cut close to her neck . I tried to apply a cream to help the cicatrization process, but unfortunately she passed away after a week of struggles. I could not find the vet that treated exotic animals in time . Now watching your video I realized maybe the wheel was not clean enough:( I feel horrible
Don't feel guilty.i had a similar situation but they survived.you did your best.you did exactly what I did.i put antibiotics on my two mice and over time they healed.sorry for your loss.
I noticed that Percibal (right?) was rocking from left to right after the wheel. And i had a peachy rat who was doing same thing. Do you know if it's normal for mice and rat?

Help!!! I got two baby fuzzy mice today and my other mouse hates them! I’m not sure what to do... is there any way I can introduce them? I tried once... but my mouse bit the babies! Thankfully they are okay, but I don’t want her to hurt them! Update: I introduced the babies once they opened their eyes to my mouse, and they love each other I put vanilla extract on the babies and the adult mouse, and put them in the bath tub with only a towel down on the floor of the tub and some toilet paper rolls, and besides a few squeaks and scuffles, they hit tit off and there was no biting. I decided that they had done so good in the two hours in the bath tub, that I cleaned out an extra cage, put in a hide with multiple exits/entrances, and only used new and plastic toys that I rinsed off. They now spend most on their time playing, eating, and sleeping together.
Some mice will be aggressive towards babies, especially if they have never had a litter themselves. This is why you have to be super careful with introductions. Basically she has proven herself untrustworthy and you cannot use her to help.
Hi!Love your videos so much,I had have 7 mice💖🐭I want to ask you what plants are you using in the cages? For example that branches. And what kind of substrate do you use? Thank you 💗
Mice are on the smaller side so they usually need between 6.5 inches and 8 inches wheels. I personally wouldnt put my mice on anything less than 8 inches
I have had bad experience with water bottles not working in the past, either not letting out any water or leaking all over the bedding and becoming empty very fast. So now I prefer water bowls, they are much more reliable. You have to though put them up on a platform to avoid mice putting bedding into them, they have an instinct for this. Drinking from a water bowl is also more natural for a mouse.
Does anyone know if a “wild” mouse can cohab a domestic one? Several ‘free’ baby mice have been rehomed here in Ontario but they’re offspring of white tail deer mice... Never been in the wild but I can’t wrap my mind around what I’m going to do
It's not likely.different species may not get along.i used to breed wild mice and domestic mice and never had any luck with that.from experience.hope that was helpful.they must be separated.
John Moran thank you so much for the reply! I had suspicions, my domestic mouse shows a lot of interest in the wild bred mouse however those feelings are not returned haha. My wild bred mouse is more than content to stare from the furthest corner of her enclosure. They’re separated but able to see each other through glass, don’t think I’m going to risk introducing them. They’re body types are quite different and my domestic mouse is much much smaller
@@PragmaticBLT I personally own three female wild mice, named Emma, Tabatha and tiny.they were born in captivity and do just fine together.my last domestic mouse Samantha passed away December second.they are cute, aren't they?I'm so glad I could help.happy new year to you and your pets.
Hello. A very lovely video again. I love your open cages. How often do you change their bedding on the floor. Mice don't pee a lot but it smells very bad. I put Fleece that I change every two days. Before I used carefresh bedding. I had to change it every three days and it was too expensive. OLD FRENCH LADY
The Uber bedding is super at suppressing odors. I clean it about once every week or two, as needed. I have very large cages so do not have to clean as often. Uber is expensive though and I will be thinking of ways to make cage maintenance less expensive when I make the final furniture. Fleece and bathmat carpeting becomes soiled quite quickly and has little odor suppression, so these have to be changed much more often. They can be washed and used over and over again so are less expensive to use in the long run than Uber. I find that my female mice do not smell much, not any more than any other pet, but un-neutered males can smell pretty potent. Luckily neutering fixes this, but currently I have three un-neutered boys :P You get used to it though, and since the new mouse room is not attached to the house, there are no complaints from other family members, I can live with it. Just part of keeping these amazing little critters :)
I'm a rodent breeder, the reason the mice have different builds is based on who bred them and what they bred for. Pet quality mice [what you have] don't have any standards they go by, a good breeder of them will simply breed for health and temperament [the way they behave is mostly genetic]. Then on the other end there are show quality mice, these mice are bred for health and looks. Show quality mice breeders tend to breed for slim, long bodies, smooth fur [unless long haired or rex], large ears, thick and long tails, a nice taper from bum to tail, and good proportions. I know even show mice breeders breed far away from any types of aggression, the males nipping isn't normal and I wouldn't recommend breeding any mouse that shows any signs of aggression it will get passed down. I personally breed mostly feeders but also sell stuff as pets as well. I breed mainly for health and temperament, but I have a couple side projects working with certain colors and slowly trying to get some show quality mice who also have good temperaments. A lot of health issues, such as some of your mice getting fatter, are also genetic and should be bred away from. There are also certain colors that are more prone to that like yellows. It took me about 6 generations of breeding to finally get rid of obesity issues with the yellow gene, I personally don't work with it much anymore because even when it's gone there are still random babies that pop up with the issue so I prefer to just focus on colors that don't have those issues to worry about. My current favorite project I'm working on is with bone. For food my favorite thing to use is a mix of hog feed, sweet horse feed, wild bird seed [with fruits and nuts], and dried meal worms. All my mice keep a healthy weight on that, non greasy fur, poos healthy, big litters with healthy babies. Also it smells really good
@@CreekValleyCritters I make a big mix, the hog and horse feed come in 50lb bags. I use one 20 lb bag of fruit and nuts wild bird seed [royal wing], one 17 oz bag of dried mealworms [royal wing], to 75 lb of hog feed [producer's pride], and 75 lb of sweet horse feed [producer's price]. I usually split it up by mixing all the seed and mealworms in to their own bucket, then emptying half a bag of hog feed and sweet horse feed in to a really big storage tote, add 1/3 of the bucket with the seed/worms. Then repeat when I run out.
They are not that bad for a single mouse, but for many mice they can cause back injuries unless you get the open front kind. Hamsters get bumble foot from them, mice almost never do.
It is not that hard but does take some time. Remove the mice, put them somewhere safe, remove the furniture and wash with vinegar water, dry, remove all bedding, wash mousery with vinegar water, dry with paper towel. Put clean bathmat carpeting on the shelves, add Uber bedding to floor, add cleaned furniture, add torn up tissue paper to nest boxes, add clean and refilled food and water dishes, add enrichments like aspen branches and dried aspen leaves, then put the mice back.
They are domesticated mice, also called fancy mice, laboratory mice and feeder mice. Some of my mice have long haired genes, others the iridescent (satin) gene and some have both, e.g. little Midas :)
That’s interesting about the differences in your mice. Do you find that the bigger mice live longer than the smaller ones? Or are their lifespans about the same?
No not really, as long as you keep them in large cages and clean regularly. The females smell a lot less than guinea pigs, way less pee lol Un-neutered male mice though can smell like little skunks. This is one reason to have them neutered. Once neutered they smell no more than females.
If they have a milk band visible on their tummies, you know mom is feeding them. Mom left because she is most likely nervous about you being there. Make sure you do not disturb her too much and only handle the babies for a few minutes no more than twice a day when they are still very little.
Mom will wean them, you don't have to do anything except maybe offer some crushed dry mouse food so it is easier for the little ones to eat and maybe some baby porridge. Mom will start weaning them at 3 weeks of age and have fully weaned them by the time they are 4 weeks old. That is the time to separate out the boys.
Hello! Would you consider a 24"x12"x12" cage good for a single male or a pair of females? I've found found a lone male and two paired females together for adoption and I'm trying to decide which would do best in the cage and which I should adopt. I love your mousery btw and I'll remember it. I'll most definitely make something similar when I have my own home :)
I would totally get all 3 and just neuter the male but it's just too expensive. Maybe in the future once my funds build up to where I have enough for supplies, emergency, and that, but for now it's out of the question :(
@@CreekValleyCritters Great, awesome! I'm thinking of doing boredom breakers such as pinatas with food in them, stuffed cardboard tubes, and basically have it chock full of fun things. Have you ever trained your mice to do any sort of tricks? Do you think a male would get any enrichment from it?
In Aus we have these wheels which are awesome 😊 Safe and good sizes 👍 www.petshopdirect.com.au/shop/item/pet-one-mouse-rat-wheel-large-20cm#description1
@@amyharr2447 Actually those are only fine with a solitary mouse. They have cross bars that a mouse can get stuck on if other mice are running on the wheel, this type of accident can lead to back injuries.
My very strong, very heavy Dad was hanging out at our boat Marina and us kids found baby mice and set one on mom's shoulder and she swung it off, onto the grass & dad said "you go put those babies back where you found them!!" He was concerned and I loved that about him, he loved animals too. (Mom didn't hurt baby, she was afraid, wasn't her fault). And we did. ❤️
I give them a protein mix of mealworms, dry cat food and dog biscuits in addition to their regular diet of rodent blocks, seed mix, greens and healthy human foods.
I have rats, not mice, but the food I use says for both www.mazuri.com/mazuri/small-animal/squirrel/rat-mouse-diet-25lb my rats love it, way more than any other pellets I've ever tried! Not sure it'll be as good of a hit with mice, but check it out if you havn't. here in the states you can buy a small bag at petco, but of course its way more expensive than getting it in bulk
Also wheel suggestion get the flying saucer wheel it is way better I like it much better then the regular wheels it also alows the tail to go straight so there is no chance of wheel tail
No, I have the males neutered by a vet so they cannot make the females pregnant. Breeding is strictly controlled so I do not end up with more mice than I can care for.

Also it smells really good
Thanks for all this info, I'll keep it in mind. In what proportion do you feed your mice the various feeds you use?
@@CreekValleyCritters
I make a big mix, the hog and horse feed come in 50lb bags.
Does ikon has rats? Rats are larger then mice, here.
This is so cute a mouse village
Are mesh wheels bad because they're really bad for hamsters
They are not that bad for a single mouse, but for many mice they can cause back injuries unless you get the open front kind. Hamsters get bumble foot from them, mice almost never do.
@@CreekValleyCritters ok thank you
Are the cages always open if yes do they escape
Domesticated mice do well in open concept homes like these because they have an instinctive caution of heights, most will never jump.
@@CreekValleyCritters ohhh okay ^w^
How do you clean their enclosures? This is super inspiring!!
So beautiful
What kind of mice are they? Some have a bit long fur
They are domesticated mice, also called fancy mice, laboratory mice and feeder mice. Some of my mice have long haired genes, others the iridescent (satin) gene and some have both, e.g. little Midas :)
I dont mind longer posts at all
That’s interesting about the differences in your mice. Do you find that the bigger mice live longer than the smaller ones? Or are their lifespans about the same?
There does not really seem to be a correlation, but on average the neutered males seem to be my longest lived mice.
🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰Love them
Don't they smell??
I have 8 gpigs on special bedding
No not really, as long as you keep them in large cages and clean regularly. The females smell a lot less than guinea pigs, way less pee lol Un-neutered male mice though can smell like little skunks. This is one reason to have them neutered. Once neutered they smell no more than females.
Hiw do I know if my baby mice are getting to nurse enough like if the mom is doing it right or not because the baby's latched on her but she ran away
If they have a milk band visible on their tummies, you know mom is feeding them. Mom left because she is most likely nervous about you being there. Make sure you do not disturb her too much and only handle the babies for a few minutes no more than twice a day when they are still very little.
@@CreekValleyCritters ok
When do I wean my baby mice and what do I feed when I'm weaning them. And do they need new cage setup when I'm weaning them.
@@CreekValleyCritters ok thank you
I wish I could do this but I don’t have much space…
Que coisa mais linda que jeito de criar esses fofinhos apaixonantes parabéns pessoa linda abençoada
Maybe in the future once my funds build up to where I have enough for supplies, emergency, and that, but for now it's out of the question :(
It is a little small but if you keep it clean, give them a ton of attention, lots of toys and some free run time, then they should be O.K.
Millicent is such a gorgeous, unusual looking girl!
What does popcorning mean..? 😊
In Aus we have these wheels which are awesome 😊 Safe and good sizes 👍 www.petshopdirect.com.au/shop/item/pet-one-mouse-rat-wheel-large-20cm#description1
When mice jump around randomly just for the joy of being alive :)
@@amyharr2447 Actually those are only fine with a solitary mouse. They have cross bars that a mouse can get stuck on if other mice are running on the wheel, this type of accident can lead to back injuries.
Ooh popcorning, makes sense 😊 I called it bunny hopping 😂 I think I like popcorning better 💛
are summer and snow siblings?
yes
Aww Summer is beautiful.
I didn't even know mousery was a word :'D
Beautiful golden daddi😘☺️🍂🌱
How do they not exape
Great video
My very strong, very heavy Dad was hanging out at our boat Marina and us kids found baby mice and set one on mom's shoulder and she swung it off, onto the grass & dad said "you go put those babies back where you found them!!" He was concerned and I loved that about him, he loved animals too. (Mom didn't hurt baby, she was afraid, wasn't her fault). And we did. ❤️
They're all so cute ahhhhhhh
This cage is cool
do you sell mice? :D
No, but I do sometimes adopt them out if the right home comes along.
What do you feed your pregnant females?
I give them a protein mix of mealworms, dry cat food and dog biscuits in addition to their regular diet of rodent blocks, seed mix, greens and healthy human foods.
I have rats, not mice, but the food I use says for both
www.mazuri.com/mazuri/small-animal/squirrel/rat-mouse-diet-25lb
my rats love it, way more than any other pellets I've ever tried! Not sure it'll be as good of a hit with mice, but check it out if you havn't. here in the states you can buy a small bag at petco, but of course its way more expensive than getting it in bulk
I tried getting this once, but no-one shipped to the Yukon :(
Creeks breed and feed
Kinda like the sims but with mice.
my mice love horizontal wheels, which are better for their backs.
What size. I see most of the time they bend sideways.
I live in Vegas :o
Also wheel suggestion get the flying saucer wheel it is way better I like it much better then the regular wheels it also alows the tail to go straight so there is no chance of wheel tail
Bending sideways isn't good as well. I never have seen a hamster mouse etc which are running normal on a saucer.
Hahaha funny how it sounds bridge Jones Dary and lest one whats move bridge Jones Baby. Sounds like her only saying
Olivia is a beautiful girl she reminds me of my mouse Molly.
Why this many mouse and trying too. Brothers and sister make more babys
No, I have the males neutered by a vet so they cannot make the females pregnant. Breeding is strictly controlled so I do not end up with more mice than I can care for.
