Usually when I ski bring a few cans or bottles of my favorite beverage and ski 1/2 down my first run and pick a nice rest spot and hide the cans by a tree and around lunch time or the afternoon I will take a short break and rest and drink from my can or bottles. Plus it is a lot cheaper than resort prices.
awesome videos! an additional hack to #6, measuring 30 degrees (roughly the angle avalanches begin) can be found by making an impression in the snow with one pole in the direction of the hill, then taking each pole and lightly planting them at each end of the impression, and having the handles touch, forming an equilateral triangle. if the downhill pole is straight vertical, the slope is 30 degrees and is (theoretically) capable of having an avalanche.
Love your videos. Useful information . Great attitude. I always end up smiling after watching as you make them fun and don't take yourself too seriously. Excellent!
This is actually really helpful, it is around 8:20 here in the mammoth mountains, I really wanted to just go freeskiing today with my friends, thanks a lot for the tips
You can use cross country kick wax for flat ground, works great! Make sure to scrape some of it off before putting your skins back on, the wax can stick to your skins.
You make really nice vids and even motivated me to ski again after a ski accident and almost 3 month of rehab and 3 years of snowboarding afterwards. As we swiss like to say "wiitr so"!
My best hack: Canadian Ice Cream Take some very sweet syrup (I use sweet evaporated milk in tube), pour on snow and voilla - perfect ice cream snack :)
I’ve been watching a lot of vids tonight! Well, thumbs up for the work! I love the ski tips! Well explained and videos are great! Thank you! Well appreciated! Btw I really like all your ski outfits 👌🏻 Alain from Canada 🇨🇦
Hack for long lift lines: chill out Hack for expensive lodge food: bring your own Hack for difficult boot entry: old-school rear entry boots Hack for uncomfortable boots: snowboarding Hack for cold feet: loosen lower buckles (learn proper buckling sequence) Hack for bad knees: telemark Hack for teaching gf/bf/spouse how to ski: don’t...instead, hire a ski instructor Hack for catching air without getting too scared, and still think you look cool: just lift your feet right before the top of a roller Hack for bad lodge coffee: Bailey’s / Irish creme Hack for taking a day off work for skiing: invite your boss
Hockey tape sticks way better than duct tape in the cold for fixing gear. Hockey tape is great for taping skins on if they start to freeze and come off. Also cut 6 inches off an old ski pole, cut that vertically in half so you have two half pipe halves. Then if you snap a pole in the backcountry you can clamp the ski pole with your cut up ski pole pipe and tape it on with the super sticky hockey tape. Quick and solid pole splint!
True words I haven´t used hockey tape in years. Need to buy some and try and see if its a big difference. I like the pole splint Idea. Sophisticated and cool but do you think it is worth the hassle?
I find it's light to carry and easy to make. If you ever break a pole with a few hours or days of touring back to your car, you don't realize how much you rely on your poles until that moment one breaks.
There is a much more elegant way to measure steepness with your poles, especially when when snow conditions are gnarly and you want to be fairly exact. Let the first pole fall over downwards to make a “scale”, pick it up at its loop with the tip still in the same spot. Use the second pole as a pendulum, holding it by its loop together with the first one. If the “pendulum” touches the end of the mark in the snow, it’s 30deg steep. For every 10cm downward you add 3deg, else subtract 3
somewhat hard to explain. Link below is a guy showing how it works. sadly the quality isn't the best and with out the hand loops, the pole won't hang freely. Thats half of the trick. any way, check it out: ua-cam.com/video/vlCiJma_rpA/v-deo.htmlm1s
Stomp It Tutorials I’m glad to help. That’s the way the Bavarian mountain rescue does it. Didn’t know there was another way to do it. Keep up the good content!
They are coming. Most gear isn´t even possible to buy yet. I really want to make them but I have to much editing to do right now and soon camps too. Will make em as soon as I can. Thanks for your patience.
DO NOT fill the base of your ski with ptex while you ride! You’re sealing up moisture into your skis and when you go into freezing temps that will expand and delaminate your skis. Also if you let your ptex flame turn red/orange the fix becomes like 30% weaker because of the soot that gets in it
Hello thank you a lot for this video. I have a question: when i ski powder and turn, it is like my skis are stuck in the snow, and I lose my balance and just keep going straight because I'm not able to turn. Is that because I turn my upper body too much and not my legs? I don't use freeride skis though. Please someone help me :/ And also, is this right: Just after you pump, the skis will get out of the snow, and you'll be able to turn your skis easily. Or do you have to pump and while you're pumping turn because you made a platform?
Wow. Skiing in my country is not that complicated. If you fall, just take your time to stand back up. Ski skin? I ve never see any one use this. It take 4 minute to go up hill and 3 to go down. So there is no time where you need it
dont use wax, easier to walk out flats.point yer skis down more thats the solution, when you ski down {we are talking dry powder only though, like we always have here in BC rockies} if your gonna put one skin on, just put both on dont mess around, dont be like that splitboarder who refuses to split his board tuck tape is better, always sticks bring xski glister wax, to use on skins and skis if snow really wet. dont have a pack that weighs 30lbs, only bring the essentials protein and fat dont give you energy while your doing strenuous exercise like skinning up hill, carbs are king, i use dates and figs, homemade rice cakes, oat balls, gels turn my stomach, but the caffeine is good dont put shit like tape on your poles, you have to lift those up three billion times during the day, dont bring ptex, fix that at home, sit on your pack more comfy than a 10mm pole
Drip candles are a waste of time. They hold like shit, look like shit, and create more work for a tech to do the job properly. I will charge you more if you try and do the work yourself and I have to scrape out your shitty drip candle job.
If you're cold, can you also make a campfire in the lift?
iurkel yes or you could actually burn the hole resort if you’re cold😉😂
totally :)
@Just send it!!! well yea, they saw the temperature rising up a bit
ofc
5:30 glad u had those sunglasses 😎😨
Thanks for the multitool tip, I found mine and put it on the “bring on wintersport next month” pile! Les Deux Alpes, here we come!
Usually when I ski bring a few cans or bottles of my favorite beverage and ski 1/2 down my first run and pick a nice rest spot and hide the cans by a tree and around lunch time or the afternoon I will take a short break and rest and drink from my can or bottles. And the drinks will be nice and cold. I like this hack :P Maybe I will show it in a future video.
I did this in the past, its a great Idea
Rich people are funny, spend so much money when you don't have to smh . . . could buy so many more useful things
I do the same thing!! 2 liter of Dr pepper, then u get cups from the lodge and make slushies! Could be done with alcoholic beverages I would assume
but I want hot drinks:(

Add some sweetener like stevia to make it even better.

How was your day freeskiing?
Great video! Forgot to tell about carrying a shovel and a piolet
You make some fantastic videos! I just started skiing, and really enjoy listening to your tips 😄
...and I just subbed 😄

This is good but can you make video how to ride in powder
Can you make a video about how to learn a backflip in the backcountry with a selfmade ramp?
Yes and no. I will make one about backflips but not backcountry specific.
Really good video, thanks. Most ‘hacks’ are obvious in videos but this was original!
THank you! :D
Cool hacks
8:55 those turns weren't as smooth as I expected from you! Good tips - liked the crossed poles, duct tape and angle calc.
Haha well... The snow was horrendous.

3:30 If you can't fix it with duct tape, you are not using enough duct tape

Alex Paisley that’s why I love bamboo poles! Panda Poles are incredible
Oo I'll check those out.
Thank you for motivating your answer. I agree with you now for the person that are doing tours in days I guess its a great idea.

Nice one I like it. What is this way of doing it called? I would like to know more because I´m not sure how you mean but it sounds elegant :P

Nice me and Danny the man behind the camera just watched it and we really liked it and it sure is more elegant but. I may add it to a future video.

Why the change of ski boots fro hack 1 to hack 2?
Good observation! Long story short, we messed up hack 1 and had to reshoot it another day after I broke the ski boot and got to borrow this race boot.
Ahhh... Interesting. What are the "race boots" that you've got on in hack one by the way?

Rossignol Alias is basically about the only wide boot you can with 120 stiffness.

Too stiff i think...
Atomic live fit maybe

Duct tape not duck tape
Hack 11. Leave the skin savers at home.
Lighting ptex on fire creates carbon particles which disallows the ptex to stick to the base. If you care about your skis get it done professionally
