I don't comment often on UA-cam but just wanted to say that I love your stuff. I'm a UT snowboarder and just appreciate your positive representation of the snow sport world. Unfortunately sometimes the pretentious or just negative side of the snow sports come up but you represent the opposite of that. The kind of person I love running into on the mountain. Keep it up man!
i really appreciate you taking the time to leave this comment man. you meet a lot of like-minded, positive ambassadors of the ski/snowboard world here, but there is also a loud group of negative people. we do this to enjoy the mountains and bring some joy to our lives - thats it. hopefully i will see you out there this year!
Custom footbeds are amazing. I got pair last year and made a big difference for me. They ket me upright in my boots, instead of pronating because I have flat feet.
Let’s go!!!!!!! Wife and I have been doing research on our ski trips this coming season. Every time you come on she says “his videos are just so much better. Video, audio, etc.” Keep up the amazing work buddy.
Definitely a large element of preference to most ski gear. Also where you'll be skiing. I've heard you mention that in the past so kind of echoing that. I don't care for Nordica skis but a lot of people I've worked with love their stuff. Each to their own.
Ski hype is getting real now! I grabbed a set of BC Atris and a bunch of avvy gear all for like 50% off. Hyped for the season and to see where you take the channel!
Nice boots. Most shops only stock ~ 5 pair of high end boots in any one given model unless they have an e commerce site. Too late now but plenty on e commerce sites still have the Alpha 130 in stock.
Anxious to see you in your new colors. I've always had insulted jackets so maybe this season I'll try a shell and modify the layers based on the conditions. A turtleneck is a must have for me.
yeah! it really all comes down to personal preference. cant go wrong with either, but it nice to have the lighter shell layer and be able to layer appropriately underneath. just gotta make sure you dress warm enough! :D
Solid line up Lucas thanks for sharing. Been watching your work now gotta be 2-3 years and you’re super talented. It’s mid October and I’m going ballistic man so stoked for the season, squats on the way to work 😂. I’m an east coaster blessed usually once a year with a couple of days out west so my fat (for me) DPS Foundation 112’s are like carvers in your quiver. Anyway, I wanted to recommend some Marino wool in your base layers naturally keeps odor away and better performance over synthetics. I recommend Icebreaker or Stoic, Smartwool also makes decent stuff. I’m a mitt wearer but I can understand why you use gloves working cam all day. LFGooooooooo!
thanks daniel! appreciate you watching for so long! heard nothing but good things about DPS skis so im sure they rip! i do need some more wool in my kit. i have one midlayer somewhere that is merino wool, but i dont think the 2 sets that I have will be enough for the amt of skiing we will do this season! thanks dude!
Getting the right boots for your feet is so crucial. Best money I’ve spent was on custom footbeds, zip fit liners and properly fitted boots. So hyped for the season!!
I ski mainly on the pistes of Europe and so I've just got the new 2024 Head Superhape e-Magnums with Protector PR13 bindings - as I have a partially torn ACL. Going to test them on the indoor slopes in a couple of weeks time, then off to Italy in December.
im kind of a ski bum so i dont have the luxury of testing out all the new gear. luckily i found something i love. im rocking nordica cruise 120's for boots and nordica enforcer 93's / 177 skis. the boots are a godsend in terms of comfort and support and the skis are perfect for my all mountain needs. ive really had no reason to invest in anything else although i do need some pow skis. my homie has the armadas might want to give them a try. ive also had good luck with the fischer wateas and nrg's
Thx for the insights into your gear! I think this year I might try to replicate the base layer situation you've got going, and otherwise stick to one or two primary ski shells. One thing I can't live without are gloves with wrist straps. Nothing better than popping the gloves off and letting em hang, so much less struggle/jank than trying to not drop my gloves while on lift or taking a break somewhere on mountain.
sweet! good point on the wrist straps haha think i used to have a pair of gloves with them years ago, but im just used to tucking my gloves under my legs when im on the lift at this point!
Get some IKEA plastic hangers brother. They're super cheap, durable, and they hold their shape. I swapped all my hangers out 12, 13 years ago. I haven't need any replacement yet. Best on the market IMO.
Also picked up a pair of Whitewalker 116s for this season, would love a video comparing them to the 116 jj’s given your experience on those sticks. Exited to see how they charge for the weight.
I know you weren't planning on adding anything new to your quiver this year, but I heard the new version of the ARVs are getting some more tweaks for the 2025 version. They are also adding a 112 width ski. Any plan or interest in trying them?
Loving all the new gear! So do you plan on not wearing montec at all this year? I know you talked about that a little in last weeks stream but can’t remember exactly what the final decision on that was.
Dear Lukas, what would you recommend as a Powder only Ski for a cat skiing trip ? the Armada Whitewalker 121 or the ARG II UL? I am looking for a ski that is intuitive and easy to ski in deep powder, for Groomers and All mountain i have different skis. Thanks for your help
Do you think baselayers are important ? I just hate them and find them not necessary.. I just wear a t-shirt and a fleece when I ski whether it is cold or not
Hey Lucas, any recommendations on a backpack to wear while skiing? Didn't see anything discussed in this video, but have seen you use one and am looking for something to get for this upcoming season. Thanks!
Switched it up last season to go with an uninsulated shell for both pants and jackets with insulating layer under. Will be interested to see if the down works for you or if it gets wet and loses its insulation(I'm in the PNW so wet is a little bit more of a concern). Went with a patagonia nano air jacket under since its synthetic and breathable and loved it. Think thats the only thing I'd pay full price on in my kit
I've been wearing uninsulated jacket shells partnered with a zipped roll neck base layer and lightweight down mid layer for the last five years. The performance in terms of warmth and movability is far superior. I'll never go back to all in one insulated jackets. I've not tried uninsulated pants yet - maybe this is the year to try.
Finally someone making good ski content that isn't a comp jock riding 163cm skis or a jerry. Thicker ski socks are less warm if your boots fit right, you're just reducing circulation.
“Good content” is all subjective. Everyone was/is a “jerry” at some point and we should encourage people to get into the sport, not dissuade them. Thank you for watching.

Thanks for sharing all your recommendations and other videos! Love all the content. Pretty sure I'm going to be following your lead and getting the Armada ARV 116 JJs. If you have any opinion or a better suggestion, I would greatly appreciate the help. Watching all your videos has gotten me beyond excited for the upcoming season. Keep up the good work man!
i would 100% be confident with the griffon! that is one of the best bindings out there for the money. the only bindings that i would say are "better" would be 1. Look Pivot and 2. Tyrolia Attack but after that, i would go with the griffon. the salomon STH is another great binding.
Appreciate the content. Interesting to see you to 'change it up" with the gear. On the legs, do you ever add an extra layer between base layer and pant shell in colder weather?
glad you like it! i dont typically add another layer. i find i dont really lose a lot of heat in my legs, but if i were - i have a set of spandex leggings i could wear.

i do have some self adjust poles.. they aren't that strong and they do slide sometimes.. i do like the big baskets on them.. i actually like a little longer poles just because it is easier to traverse the hills with them and also some of the cat tracks..
boots... when i moved out here the first thing the people at the ski shops said that i needed was boots.. i tried a lot of boots and the ones that i got fit my feet a lot better than all the others.. i have one pair of skis that when i ski them my feet move around in my boots.. i think it is more my skis than my boots.. i would like to try those boots that have the removable shell that you can also use as hiking/walking boots... they are like $900
skis.. the new JJs have a weird look.. I can see why you didn't get them you mentioned the 106s and bringing them to Keystone and A-Basin.. It sounds like they represent the less snow and wind blown snow and the more icy conditions that Colorado has compared to Utah or California.. I will have to keep track if you go to Big Sky and if there are any other ski resorts over there.. If I see you on opening day at either Keystone or BRECK I might be on my 25 year old race skis that have a 70 waist width;) I hit so many rocks early season that I really should wait to bring out my wide skis until the first of the year..
How are the armada ski jackets after using them for a little considering buying one on sale for $480 right now, one question is the hood big enough to put over your helmet?
so STOKED for the season to get started in a few weeks!

boots... when i moved out here the first thing the people at the ski shops said that i needed was boots.. i tried a lot of boots and the ones that i got fit my feet a lot better than all the others.. i have one pair of skis that when i ski them my feet move around in my boots.. i think it is more my skis than my boots.. i would like to try those boots that have the removable shell that you can also use as hiking/walking boots... they are like $900
skis.. the new JJs have a weird look.. I can see why you didn't get them
you mentioned the 106s and bringing them to Keystone and A-Basin..
Safe to say you and Armada is a match made in heaven lol
haha i do love armada!
Armada should be totally sponsoring you!
ha! they sponsor pro skiers, not aspiring youtubers ;)
@@LucasCatania17 yep- most brands have a distinct brand image they want to project and Armada is more pro and Canadien oriented from what I've seen.
