Want to clear the air. This video is in no way sponsored by Dopesnow. While the company brought me to their HQ to meet the team after a shoot in France, this video was my initiative and something I wanted to create. After riding for Dope this season I grew to love the brand, the product, and the people behind the company. I wanted to make a video that addressed the unmerited hate the company gets and show off the facts behind the brand. This is the result, love you all ❤
Hey, I understand the confusion, and I'm glad you put this comment here, I think a lot of people were just upset because this information wasn't in the video. Taking a flight from the company is fine, but it does still make it a sponsored video which is what people wanted disclosed
I personally don't really care one way or another, but FTC guidelines do require transparency about having a relationship with a brand, even if they didn't ask you to endorse their product when you speak about it. Doesn't bother me personally, but figured I'd point it out in case you hadn't looked into it (I'm sure you have, but maybe this'll save a few comments from others haha). Don't want you to end up with a bad rep for an honest misunderstanding or mistake. Keep doing good work, bud!
I can’t stand behind a company that has partnered with you for so long and not put a rubber ducky on a coat. This kind of corporate shrill cannot be stood for
Hate is a strong word but this is just cheap kook advertising. The most notable things dope snow have to show off are a 4 way stretch fabric that’s too thin to be a t-shirt, some DWR coated fabric that beads water for 12 hours before becoming a sponge, and a program to turn returned junk products into someone else’s regretful purchase.
@@arbitraryalias9825 there are arguments to be made that not everyone needs gear that lasts 10 years and doesnt even need to be repaired or rewaxed/refilled with goretex or what have you the first two seasons. some people want to buy cool looking clothes that keep you warm enough for long enough to go skiing 4-5 times a year. and naturally purchasing top of the line gear is out of any sane persons budget.... for said use. SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO. Knowing how much you can do yourself to waterproof (with waxes or coatings) you can make said product last longer, or choose to be upset that some of the cheapest gear you can find, doesnt last as long as the expensive products. yes there is an argument for making only good quality equipment, that lasts, to save the planet, but you're not making that argument. you're just bashing a company making affordable clothing.
Ive been skiing and riding since i was a 7 y.o - over 30 years. Ive orn alot of different brands. I have alot of snow gear and i recently bought some dope snow overalls. I rode in them for a few days straight and i was happy with them. No complaints at all. For contrast- Ive bought burton pants and had them rip in the crotch after 2 days. Same with Northface. Same with a columbia jacket- seam blew and pocket ripped. Dope is fine. Nothing wrong w it. Im convinced people are hating on dopesnow to be edgy. Who cares what you wear- just ride. People should care less about fashion and more about following the code and mountain etiquette.
been riding since 1990 and sick of all the hoopla of brands . I loved the fit and basic'ness of dope and bought their rejuvenated stuff for very cheap and I am stoked. my pants are warm and great and I didn't spend alot like an idiot. when it falls apart and it hasn't I'll buy more. whoop
Whoever's idea at Dope it was to sponsor Nick should get a massive raise. So many people are gonna appreciate this video and spend money on dope/montec.
I’ve been using the same dope snow jacket each ski day for 2 seasons- never any issue and always keeps me warm. Their customer service is great, the first jacket they shipped to me was stole from my front door and they replaced it themselves even though it was no fault of theirs. That sort of thing will keep me around for a long time 🤙🏼
I got supported by Montec this season alongside my team for doing a 6 week road trip around Japan. Not only were we stoked by the quality of the gear but they kept contact during the trip just always asking us how’s it all going. Was super stoked to be supported by such a company that had such an interest. Also over here in Japan they are getting super popular amongst the Japanese 🤙
Tbh a mid-quality option for casual skiers who do less than 10 days per season makes plenty of sense. They don't need to blow a bunch of cash on something they'll rarely use, but they still need a jacket for those 3 days they hit the slopes each winter.
@@NISHIAKIwow that’s the most real comment I’ve ever read on a ski thread. So true. Skiings such an expensive sport, the people who actually just like to slide a round 3-5 days a year have been left out of everything. They want some threads that look good, and don’t care too much about the techy parts. Make it pretty warm and dry and 80% of people would be happy. 🤙🤜👌
@@Odhege8262 yeah plenty of folks wanna call out something for not being perfect, but I'd imagine a lot of the naysayers also still wear a cotton hoodie when doing park laps lol. There's a place for it all. People should be skeptical and hold companies with influence accountable, but at least do it reasonably imo
@@NISHIAKI I have a dope jacket, and I skied the whole winter, at least 2 times per week. The quality is good, I don't get why people hate dope so much
I would say watch geniune testing of the products like angrysnowboarder has done. Dope snow is lower than average quality and overpriced for its quality (despite being cheap). Dope is not the only brand guilty of this. As a general rule of thumb the old established brands like 686 offer a much better value for money at the netry level. And dope doesnt come close to the top end at all, as they admit. I can understand that they struggle with material sourcing etc, but the stitching and layering is sub par. No hate towards DOPE im sure they're tring to improve, but they're not there yet.
Yea great point Cube! From my end, I have been able to test their lineup this entire season in conditions all around the globe. While I’m not able to compare to the likes of 686 (haven’t tried their gear), I was able to compare it to Orage, Descente and Karbon-the brands I’ve worn for the last 15 years. Descente and Karbon offered better quality and better performance in tough conditions, but they also cost 3x. When compared to Orage, I found Dope’s offerings to be the same if not better in terms of performance and quality. While there’s so many other brands that I haven’t tested, I’ve still skied my whole life and tried many different offerings along the way. From my experience, Dope drastically stands out from the competition as an amazing value proposition but this doesn’t mean they are the utmost very best option either.
@@steepsteep I'd love for them to keep giving back to snowboarding and skiing like they have the past year, its a big step forwards for them. I'd be interested to know if this video was entirely your idea or if Dope suggested it. The refurbished gear is another step in the right direction, and it would be really good if they provided gear repair since durability is one of their main struggles. Big respect to you though for thinking about this whole thing critically and putting in the effort to engage. This is why you really are one of the best creators out there atm 🙏
Lab testing in a controlled environment and practical testing are two completely different things. Side by side they reveal that, with responsible use, one doesn't need an indestructible but costly piece of clothing. 686 pricing is still about 30% higher than dope. They meet the market demands of cheap and stylish clothing that's just good enough to last
686, Volcom, Quiksilver, ThirtyTwo, Dakine, Oakley, etc. are all pretty cheap imo. Arc’teryx and Burton AK really the only high quality gore-tex snowboard jackets.
Earlier this year, I purchased the Montec Doom 2021 Arctic Camo/Black ski jacket and used it for 17 days this ski season for skiing in different conditions such as powder, park, and piste. I'm pleased to report that the jacket is still in excellent condition and provided sufficient warmth during colder days. However, the insulation makes it quite warm on sunny days. Overall, I highly recommend this jacket for its great quality and performance.
I worked as a ski lift operator in Tahoe this past season and I bought a dope jacket right before I went. And it was probably one of the best purchases I made in my life. The jacket was super comfortable, affordable and dependable. I wore it literally every day for 5 months riding every piece of terrain Tahoe has to offer and I have absolutely no complaints. People who hate on dope snow and montec are simply just haters and probably aren’t very good riders themselves.
What an asinine thing to say. Dope is mid-grade shit, doesn't support snowboarding like a true core brand, and I guarantee I'm a better rider than you. How's that for logic?
@@derpderpin1568 PFAS-free waterproof wear is unnecessary? I am buffled nobody is talking about this. Enthought Gore-Tex promised not to use PFAS in their membrane, they are still using it for coating. Check it out, it's a pretty nasty material I wanto avoid at all costs This is not the case with Dope.
I have one and it’s really pretty decent. Bought it used from their site so it was pretty cheap. Looked brand new. I have a few different jackets and this brand has a lot of features for the price. One minor issue is the hood is smallish and can be hard to pull over helmet. I have a Montec Fawkes. Live in Minnesota and ski a lot of sub zero temp days and it’s been great.
Man I thought I was the only one thinking this looking through the comments. Love this channel but I swear so many "influencers" become just mouth pieces for their sponsors without scrutiny. Nothing wrong with having sponsorships, but it's issue when one just becomes a shill for a brand.
about 3/4 years ago dope did a photoshoot in my local snowpark after hours where they had their models stand and pose on a box and do other still shots in the park. the "riders" couldn't snowboard anywhere near well enough to be sponsored for their talent. very non core branding move... but then the last few seasons they had been sponsoring multiple riders and a filmer even paying them for dedicated shooting days. that was a great step up from the insta models they used before that to promote their gear
On this (as someone who has worked for an outdoor brand organizing shoots), you have to differentiate product shoots (models wearing shit from next year to have photos for website and stores and catalogues etc) and sports marketing. Meaning that sometimes you choose models who can’t do the sport at a high level for your photos because they are good at standing in front of a camera m, are the right size for the samples you have etc… and then you have a team of athletes who represent your brand performance and values to the public. So even though they have good riders, they prob still do photo shoots in parks with models who don’t ride well. Different tools for different purposes :)
my only experience with montec is a friend bought a jacket cuz it was a decent value, and it lasted around 2-3 weeks and then it had minor issues like small tears, seams coming apart, zippers jamming, etc. This killed the water proofing as now the seams were letting in about everything. In all fairness, we ride off piste in rough conditions, but still sad to see it only lasted less than a month. for comparison, i run volcom and thirtytwo, both of which have been through hell and back and will probably last another 3-4 seasons. if you ride resort, aren't constantly finding yourself in trees, and don't ride 6 days a week during the season, im sure it will be fine. but given what happened to my buddies jacket, i wouldn't trust it to last a season on my back for 95% of riders out there, it will probably do the job just fine. EDIT: also just checked, for the same price you can get a hell of a lot better gear in a late season sale like on evo rn. 686, volcom, dc, burton, armada, etc. all for around the same price as dope. hell, even an arcteryx for like 80 bucks more
The problem I have with Dope/Montec is the pricing, it's marketed as 'affordable' when in reality it costs the same as any established brand's mid to low level gear (which is almost always much better quality). And also that employee saying they couldn't source gore-tex because it would be too expensive.. What a load of crap, reason they're not using quality fabrics is so they can maximise profits and keep manufacturing costs down.
i just hate the word dope, its cringy af. and on top of that almost everytime ive seen someone wear that gear they just seem like annoying and cringy people. thats why i dont like the company.
I think for those of us who've been riding for a while we recognize there's more on the line than just that quality (since they all do a great job to a degree). The brand, who they sponsor, their involvement in the industry, video parts etc all plays a role in how we support these companies. To me Dope snow has only ever been flashy instagram ads targeting the mainstream audience. To each their own but I don't get the sense (and seems I'm not the only one) that they're part of the fabric of snowboarding and I doubt you'll ever see any riders you look up to wearing it because of that. Doesn't mean the jacket won't keep you warm but there are way too many other companies properly integrated into the sport to support.
Yeah, I agree. I recently bought dope snow so I’m kinda committed this season to wearing it, however I would much rather prefer a company that gives back to the sport, in ways other than more advertisement 😂 what’s your go to company so I can keep it on my radar for the next time I need to buy one?
I own a pair of their bib pants and this year bought myself a fleece, both are fantastic, the fleece especially is comfy AF. The bib pants were a little bit of an issue as using them for both Skiing and Snowboarding I found it very difficult at times to bend down to put on/adjust bindings. I messaged them with this feedback saying maybe the sides should have a flexible mesh instead of a rigged zip and they got back to me within days thanking me for the information and that they'd pass it on to their design department. To me, that's great customer service.
I bought the fawk outfit from montec last year, and I couldn't be happier with my choice. I quite like that montec and dopesnow differenciate between skiers and snowboarders outfits, and have so many different styles and colours you can choose from. Everything is so well thought through, the jacket is light and soo flexible (I do ski racing, so it's quite important), and it has everything you need whilst simply looking nice. The quality is very good too. The only problem I had was that my ski jacket's front zipper broke the first day, but montec sent me another jacket for free, as it must have been a construction mistake. The new one has been working fine ever since. All in all, 10/10 recommendation for everyone.
I appreciaiate the point of cheap, more accessible outerwear for an average holiday maker, however the lack of support for the core community by selling direct to the customer, removes funding and jobs for local ski shops which are arguably the most import feature of the industry. They have staff who are passionate and can guide you to the right product for your needs which in some cases might be a dope snow jacket, and for others who require better quality products for big expeditions the shops can guide you to more higher end equipement like arcteryx or Patagonia. Ski shops also put on events and sposnor riders and promote ski films which are all integral parts of the core ski communtiy and ridestore have removed themselves from that which could be argued to benefit the consumer but only from a monitary point and also it means dopesnow get lots of attention which brings them more financial gain. Its much deeper than “quality and pro riders.” There bad rep comes from the way they've chosen to enter the market which has attracted a large consumer base that doesent care for or support the core community. That doesn’t mean everyone who rides the gear is like that in the same way not everyone in an arcteryx coat shreds, and supports the comminty. It goes both ways but the vast majority of people attracted to dopesnow are more interested in mellow ride days followed by drinks in the lodge than serious progression and just shredding which is okay, but again that doesnt represent the core community and that is where I think the “controversy” comes from. If you just look at there marketing campaigns you see photos of people doing some mellow turns down resort groomers and cute portraits of attractive people vs a company like arcteryx where there website shows the highest end athletes using the gear in some of the harshest conditions. Furthermore those other companies offer customers who visit there sites, blogs and films and community events whereas dopesnow is only focused on selling products. Sorry for this rant it lasted a lot longer than expected. Big appreciation for you steep and everything youve done to get to where you are but I dont think its fair to make a 15 minute video defending the company and alagations, when youre now getting free gear, and potentially financial incentive and then just ignore the actual heart of the problem because as much as people go on about the quality, price etc that doesnt differentiate them from other cheap brands and where the “hate” comes from. Lots of love brotha I hope you don’t take this as any personal disresepct I just wanted to get my point across
To counter this, how about the support thru give to remote workers? Their recruitment system allows people to work for them from the mountains, and live the lifestyle they love. This passion is then passed onto the customer when they speak to the staff. Try working for them for a season and see how fast you change your opinion
@@shushevents5765 except that's false in every sense when a company keeps blowing their money more on marketing to make a inferior product to better companies. Their products claim to be cheaper option, but are still more expensive than the same equivalent by the actual core companies. Every core shop and core company is always close to ski hills. Hell, burton essentially owns a small hill at their Vermont factory. One of the parts some people work at core shops is because the shops usually have a staff pass for a local hill. Lol
I just worked a ski season using only one set of montec ski pants, they were the dream. I would say I will buy another set but the ones I have are in perfect condition even after skiing 6 days a week for a full season!
I bought a DOPE snow jacket early on. When I was looking for a new jacket and only found expensive, ugly trash, I started getting ads for DOPE snow. I had never heard of them but immediately liked their designs and prices. Their jackets had features the current big companies only offer in some of their jackets. Why make a "snow board/ski" jacket and not include all of the features? And then have the gall to charge an arm or a leg. So I took the risk with this "unheard" of company (by me anyway) and I love my jacket a ton! It's been sad seeing all the social media comments always say shit like "only jerry's wear dope snow". It doesn't make sense, people hating on a company changing the market for the better.
Thats not the Point, the point is that Dope isnt Bad. Most people wont care if it costs 30$ more then other Brands. Let People wear what they like@@derpderpin1568
Idk if its my personal style, but love how they support you and the channel. For the price their jackets seem like decent quality so can't hate on anyone buying it. The one thing im curious about is how good their goggles really are. They seem to know their stuff in terms of fabrics... but optics are a whole other thing in themself. Like hypothetically would you buy goggles from North Face or Arc'teryx if they made them? I know Oakley makes jackets along with their eyewear but I feel like its generally weird if other companies were to make both
I would honestly say don't listen to people who say this is just 'Instagram snow gear'. I've got the Blizzard jacket and Notorious B.I.B pants and they're great. Dope really straddles that price gap between cheap / no-brand gear and stuff like Arc'teryx, while still being really good quality and wearing / moving really well. Not hating on Arc'teryx in particular as I have one of their jackets too but don't listen to the anti-hype on Dope. Maybe if you go backcountry for 176 hours straight and stay alive by eating the carcasses of dead bears you may need something more but that isn't most of us.
@Kit Police You're opinion of the style, the brand, and the people who wear it is not what steepsteep was addressing in the video. It's about claims that the clothing cannot hold up, made by bitter people who hold a negative opinion about dope and will never actually try their clothes
A lot of skiers and snowboarders are an old and sensitive bunch. They don't trust anything new. Years back I bought dope and montec pants, and some of my friends were really skeptical about the brands. But they're still going and get me dry and warm on the slopes. Only complaint I've had is that they are really short. (I'm 1.83m)
I mean, is nobody complaining about how much Burton is charging for their gear? I’ve ripped Burton, O’Neil, and Ripzone gear. I’ve worn Mountain Warehouse ski pants until they are no longer waterproof. Montec gear has held up for me for the last two seasons, and that’s with buying refurbished items. I would encourage you to buy a size up to allow you to layer your gear. But now I ride with a group of 5 people that all have dope/montec stuff. No rips and no complaints (other than price, but that’s life).
No. Because everyone knows that Burton is the most expensive snowboard specific gear out there. But the quality is there to match. Unlike Dope/Montec. But you get what you pay for, so it's priced to match.
Im a telemark skier and I wear a Volcom Gortex shell and snowpants. Cost me a pretty penny but its warm and dry. Id never waste money on low quality Target-style fashion crap. But Im from Colorado so I ski like 30 days a season. My Dad was a two-time Olympic ski jumper and he taught me one thing, that any clothes I buy should be warm and waterproof. Gortex is both so I pay for it. Having said that, if anyone paid me to ski Id wear a dang furry outfit if thats what they wanted me to.
I admit I’m a beginner and I bought a Montec jacket during summer. I have been looking forward to winter when I can try snowboarding for the first time because my little sister wants someone to ride with her. Now after hearing that other skiers and snowboarders look down on people wearing Montec I am concerned that I may get made fun of… I don’t want to go snowboard anymore because I don’t have money to buy a new jacket that won’t attract too much negative attention
I am a beginner too. I ride with my dad's old 30$ jacket from lidl that's 2 sizes too big. I look like a penguin. I can tell you no one really cared how I looked like. In Fact barely anyone looks "fashionable" at all. People wear all kinds of random stuff. I did however see a lot of dope and montec advertisement on social media this year. Yesterday I went skiing again and I was surprised how many dope/montec and Decathlon jackets I saw. Anyways don't worry, no one will say anything. In fact you'll probably find more people complimenting a stylish jacket than hating on it.
Don’t listen to the people saying negative things. It’s an awesome sport and honestly I see a lot of people wearing montec out in places like Colorado, including people who were decent skiers. I’ve even had people who work at the resorts, on more than one occasion, ask me about my montec gear and say that’s what they wear when they aren’t working. Even if the perception was different in Europe, honestly, it wouldn’t matter. Like most things in life, you will get more enjoyment out of it if you just focus on what you were doing, and let anyone else think whatever they want. The reality is that 99% of people at the resorts are only focusing on what they are doing anyway and aren’t worried about your gear.
the problem is that they dont sell in local ski shops to support them nothing more nothing less. id support them if they helped out the small businesses by having their lineup in store.
You can get better at local shops for cheaper, it's been proven. They just blow their money on marketing and not on quality gear. I hate the guy, but angry snowboarder actually proven how shitty this company actually is. Look up the pant teardown.
This is just a 15min sponsored UA-camr commercial. Nothing wrong with that - but its so transparent - UA-cam 101 - it’s all about the title, to hook you in, so smart for dope snow to for a sponsorship deal - to get a UA-cam commercial that would be farther reaching than them putting out their own commercial. Win - win for both parties.
@@LuuuugnMy bad. I just check their website. They do change their price line and definitely have lowered the price. I bought their pants and jacket for around $800 in total two years ago.
@@Luuuugn That factory does make great clothes I mean. Oakley is also made in Ningbo, China, just not in the same factory. But Dopesnow is way better and cheaper than Oakley according to the price now.
@@nashnash272 Ah alright :D yeah, ive got a pair of snowboardpants from dope. Its from like their first collection. Still feels new after a few years with alot of riding
The worst thing about Dopesnow is their name. Maybe it would be alright if it wasnt plastered all over their gear. Also this shameless clickbait title and "this video isnt sponsored but I am sponsored" pinned comment.
100% agreed. The brand name dope snow is just heinous. The name oozes low budget noob wannabe wear, even if it is quality. And to add insult to injury they plaster it all over their garments. Their is no doubt in my mind they'd sell far more gear if not for this. They certainly went a better direction with their Montec gear. But I'm still not a big fan of them putting MONTEC across the shoulders of the fawk jackets, but its not a deal breaker.
My whole ski kit (pants and jacket) got eaten through by mice in storage. I have been looking at new gear that won’t break my wallet of a fresh college grad. This video convinced me and I’ll be rocking Montec this season!
My dope jacket was used for a week of nonstop riding this year and hasn’t even had one mark on it + it keeps you warm but not too warm on the slopes with a steezy look
Siroko is a new brand on the up. Thinking nobody would pay 300 plus euros for a jacket I bought into Dope. It's literally one in three riders on the hill. I do full seasons so see loads.
Personally, my ONE dope snow jacket i invested in has kept me completely dry while my friends other super expensive brand has her moist on the mountains..
Dude, i love your videos. Especially all the rubber ducky lord loving methaphors, such good energy. You got the best original commentary. This was different.... might be the longest commercial i ever watched
Appreciate you man! But this wasn’t an ad. After riding for Dope this season I grew to absolutely the love the brand, the product, and the people behind it all. Given the mass amount of unmerited hate the brand gets, I wanted to make this video to show off the facts. Something I’m passionate about! Much love man
@@steepsteep Yeah I get that, I dont wanna hate on it, but it felt strange.. idk. Just some feedback. Happy for you that they give you these opportunities and thank you so much for making all these videos! Also so cool to see you hit the big jump at nines!
Hey dude, I want to say something about my first comment, because I feel bad about it every time I watch your videos. I am sorry for judging you, especially about how to end your videos and that I missed the rubber ducky stuff. As if I was telling you how I want you to end your videos and that that would limit/force your creativity with the videos. I don't know if it had this effect on you, but if so, I am sorry and I hope you just make videos the way you want and forget what I said. I really appreciate and enjoy the videos that you make.
what people forget is that a lot of recent brands that are now established have more or less started this way. Armada for instance started similarly to this. online only. few things being sold at the beginning. but look at them now. competing with top brands for all mountain skis, great outerwear as well. people need to just chill out on the "sheep" mentality and follow others while not experiencing the product. my wife just got a montec jacket and loves it.
when the first came out the BIG branding is what turned me off...im happy to see they are being more subtle with it now...maybe one day ill find a garment sublet enough for me to purchase.
I've been loving the past few videos! This narration/backstory into shredding style of vlog is insanely captivated, super fun to watch and clearly shows how much time and effort is put into each of the videos. Loving the content, keep it up steep!
there is almost nothing worse then gear shaming its dumb because if every one just ware the "name brand" gear we would all look the same wear what you like and can afford and just get out there.
I'm glad to hear about your experience with Dopesnow and Montec and haveing this discussion. I'm still relatively new to snowboarding, but I was skeptical about what other riders were saying and posting online. I liked the way their gear looks, but at the time it wasn't a well known brand (at least not to a new rider who mostly knows bigger brands like Burton). I've heard mixed comments, but it seemed appealing to me because their gear is cheap and looks good to me, I figured there had to be a catch. Ultimately I got some Burton gear for a decent price from my local ski shop; I'll definitely buy a jacket or pants from Dopesnow in the future if my current gear rips or I have enough money to buy spare/new gear.
I purchased a Dope bib and jacket after a 4 year break after a knee surgery. Just got done with a three day trip with them in CO and absolutely love their gear. Comfortable, dependable, and aesthetically pleasing.
I bought a pair of Dopesnow pants. Great quality without the huge price tag. Their customer service was awesome. They actually reached out to me about a month after my purchase to see if I was satisfied.
As someone who’s been riding / snowboarding since the mid 90s, I’ve never given a rats arse about the nuances of clothing… it makes f*ck all difference. In the snow waterproofing is irrelevant unless it’s raining. So good luck to these Dope dudes is all I can say
I bought pants with suspenders, and a jacket I think it was called the dune, it was like 440 bucks for everything, and it was a phenomenal decision, I’m an easy coast skiier who doesn’t have the money to venture out west. I was able to ski about 60 times this year and the Montec gear held up phenomenally in all conditions, freezing rain to deep powder, I was surprised at how much freedom movement I had in my lower body, the pants were a bit of a tight fit and I was worried, but I was able to move freely and the pants give me a small amount of tension on my legs which is fucking awesome. The only thing I’ll say is if it’s below 0, consider wearing a sweatshirt, I run hot so I was perfect comfortably but my girlfriend needed to put a sweatshirt on under on really cold days… not to mention we both feel great wearing it, look good feel good, feel good ski good, ski good live good, live good die good :).
"5 days and it breaks" bro what ive been riding two seasons with the same dope gear, good as new. I saw those memes on tiktok and was genuinely confused why people hate on it
I wrote two comments, explaining the problem with dope snow and both got deleted!? Why!? I didn’t use any offensive language and I think I stated out some really good points, regarding this topic! So criticizing is‘t allowed here???
All these fanboys mocking Dope clothing yet most of these kids can't even hit a backflip off a mogul let alone follow us through the backcountry diving steep chutes and sending it off of cliffs. Been riding for over 25+ years and it's never mattered what clothing you wear, but how you treat your fellow shredder and how you ride. We used to wear whatever we could find at thrift stores. In fact, today, no matter what jacket I buy it's going to go through the paces I give it and not one jacket I've worn has lasted me because I'm tearing it up through the trees or hitting rails in the middle of resorts or because I just spilled two beers on the jacket and decided to hit a chute in the backcountry. So a jacket for a little over 2bills? I'm in considering all these name brands charging outrageous prices for their snow gear today. Don't care what branding is on it so long as it does what its supposed to do. Point is, wear whatever the hell you want. If branding on clothes is what you're focusing on while riding the pow then guess what, you're not a snowboarder, just another click kid who completely lost the concept of why we all ride in the first place. Heck think I'll buy some Dopesnow gear just to pop off 80 foot tables just to entertain the triggered elite that's apparently flooding the mountains nowadays. Should be a hoot.
@@steepsteep @steepsteep m8, not hating on the vid or brand, just confused why you didn't follow the UA-cam guidelines and disclose you are sponsored by this company. It's just a little misleading to people who don't know that from other videos of your's.
bought montec bid this season for 12 days and it was excellent. Really good waterproofing and freedom of movement and insulation. I spend a lot of time in my mountain equipment pants for work and honestly if they made an alpine bib I'd use it in a heart beat. Sizing was great too.
I wear a Montec kit to work on the slopes. Not necessarily a fan boy for the brand but I have worn the same kit for 200+ days and it is still going strong. Needs a wash though ;-)
I’ve wore my montec gear all season over 27 days at multiple resorts and conditions and has held up as well As my Patagonia gortex shells. Different strokes different folks
Honestly I was a hater and seeing this video changed my perspective 100%. I work in marketing at a ski resort so just seeing these cool ppl who are passionate about this stuff just like my team at the resort is just heartwarming. Gor Tex ain’t all it’s hyped up to be
The prices of the jackets are pretty appealing I guess but the pants prices are ridiculous for the lack of quality. For the price you could just get any good quality pant from Capeesh, harlaut, arsenic or vulgus.
Great video. It's really interesting to read the comments and it looks to me like most of the negativity is coming from the US? I'll be clear straight away...I worked for Ridestore the season just gone, for customer support in Europe. I can honestly say that I have never worked for a company that's so customer and employee focussed. I've worked for some huge multi-nationals in customer service and I've never been given the freedom to do whatever was needed to make the customer happy that Ridestore gave me. From a personal point of view, I wouldn't hesitate in recommending their clothing to friends. The jackets and pants (especially the Montec range) are as good as any I've worn. I ride 30 plus days each season, so my gear gets used, and I've had no complaints at all. Do they have work still to do on some of their lines, yes, but they constantly listen to their customers and want to improve each season. Maybe things are different in the US, but the team here in Europe are some of the nicest people I have ever met, and I feel lucky to have been a part of the company, even if only for 5 months
@@shushevents5765 we = real snowboarders what = the brand Dope I regularly ride in snowparks around Europe and I have never ever seen a signle good rider wearing Dope stuff, apart from people who are sponsored of course
Got a full dope snow kit for my first time on actual mountains, jacket, pants, gloves and thermal. Incredible gear, I also wear the jacket in simple cold rainy weather and it keeps me perfectly warm and protected from the elements. Couldn't recommend this company more
Yes R&D exists but I’d truely want to know if they have a science based material development division, orrrrrr, what is probably likely, them sourcing from different manufactures and picking the ones they like the most. Which by itself is not bad at all. Everyone does this. However where it gets sketchy and maybe not completely honest is when the company then says “we have our own proprietary material”. But really they only Tweaked them slightly with the over seas factory and then saying that that have materials similar to GORTEX even tho they little material development. Just a huggggge hunch based off of other people in industry focused on low cost goods and branding, really quite similar to what’s been going on with montec and dopes rebranding campaign they’ve been on for the past couple years.
I’m sure the company is quality and have almost bought stuff myself but the branding and hyping seems realllllllly shallow at best and at worst disingenuous towards buyers
The brand is so overhated, because every average skier and snowboarder wears it. It's affordable and good quality. Maybe not as steezy as other brands but not bad.
I saw dope snow all over the mountains last year and decided to get a jacket and absolutely loved it, i have 3 now and a pair of snow pants and ill tell you its high quality stuff, me and my 4 buddies all have dope or montec and love it
Their gears ok , looks great , comfortable and I’ve had mine for 3 seasons and is still good ….I put their bad vibes down to the usual snobbery of skiing.
i bought a pair of montec bibs this season and snowboarded 33 days, there's some scratches and stains, but I never had snow get in(unless it was too warm and i was only wearing a tshirt under them😂).
They need to commit to goretex materials on higher end options. No proprietary waterproofing is going to be as good, no matter how much DWR they coat on the outer layer.
As someone who has a few extra pounds around my tummy so snowboard pants don't ever fit right, and only snowboards casually, I can't justify paying the crazy prices some of the bigger brands charge for a pair of snowboards pants that aren't going to fit me perfectly. If you want me to pay that much, they should have more variety in length and waist sizes like jeans do. I will be purchasing some Dopesnow items for the upcoming season. Heard good things, and the price point is fair.
Snowboarders always act like they need separate outdoor gear than skiers for some reason. I've been sking and snowboarding for 20+ years and I'm always puzzled why boarders think they make better stuff than the likes of Columbia, Rossignol, Descente and Spyder. Companies who've been around in some cases for 70+ years. Who do you think the Burton AK lines were modeled after? Some of the high end stuff mountaineering guides were using in Alaska - companies that have been tried and tested over very long periods of time and are still around today. My advice? Find a brand that is in your price range and take care of it. If it lasts, then good. If not, then find another brand that does. I've had high end Spyder jackets fall apart in a single season. I still have several of my Columbia jackets and shells that were pretty inexpensive that have lasted 15 years now and still look brand new. All of my 686 stuff has lasted generations (I've handed down several jackets and pants to my family members who now have worn them several seasons), all of my Columbia stuff has lasted decades. All of my Obermeyer stuff has held up for years. Heck, I still have my first snowboarding pants that were made by Planet Earth that are simply indestructible that I got on sale at a skateshop like 15 years ago. I personally have never heard of Dope, and have never bought any of their stuff, but these companies will either make good stuff and stick around, or quickly find their way into the product trash bin of history. Only time will tell.
it’s not really about the gear or the people making it but about the people who typically wear it, i think the gear is great and affordable and perfect for newer riders and even experienced , but the people who wear it usually are the ones falling off the lift after buying a whole new dripped out purple set of dope snow

I loved the fit and basic'ness of dope and bought their rejuvenated stuff for very cheap and I am stoked. my pants are warm and great and I didn't spend alot like an idiot. when it falls apart and it hasn't I'll buy more. whoop

Tbh a mid-quality option for casual skiers who do less than 10 days per season makes plenty of sense. They don't need to blow a bunch of cash on something they'll rarely use, but they still need a jacket for those 3 days they hit the slopes each winter.

I'm pleased to report that the jacket is still in excellent condition and provided sufficient warmth during colder days. However, the insulation makes it quite warm on sunny days. Overall, I highly recommend this jacket for its great quality and performance.

People who hate on dope snow and montec are simply just haters and probably aren’t very good riders themselves.
nope. they just do something completely unnecessary. you could've gotten just as good of a jacket for cheaper.
yin this case any aliexpress jacket would be enough for you, because it is made from same shitty fabric
What an asinine thing to say. Dope is mid-grade shit, doesn't support snowboarding like a true core brand, and I guarantee I'm a better rider than you. How's that for logic?

it's really sad to see considering where this channel came from and how pure it used to be
Man I thought I was the only one thinking this looking through the comments. Love this channel but I swear so many "influencers" become just mouth pieces for their sponsors without scrutiny. Nothing wrong with having sponsorships, but it's issue when one just becomes a shill for a brand.
Absolute junk
about 3/4 years ago dope did a photoshoot in my local snowpark after hours where they had their models stand and pose on a box and do other still shots in the park. the "riders" couldn't snowboard anywhere near well enough to be sponsored for their talent. very non core branding move... but then the last few seasons they had been sponsoring multiple riders and a filmer even paying them for dedicated shooting days. that was a great step up from the insta models they used before that to promote their gear
I really love the fake pockets they sew onto the pants. Super functional.
Fake pockets for a fake brand.
Perfect.
😂😂😂 I’ve had Burton and grenade pants both with fake pockets what’s ya point 😂😂😂
my only experience with montec is a friend bought a jacket cuz it was a decent value, and it lasted around 2-3 weeks and then it had minor issues like small tears, seams coming apart, zippers jamming, etc. This killed the water proofing as now the seams were letting in about everything. In all fairness, we ride off piste in rough conditions, but still sad to see it only lasted less than a month. for comparison, i run volcom and thirtytwo, both of which have been through hell and back and will probably last another 3-4 seasons. if you ride resort, aren't constantly finding yourself in trees, and don't ride 6 days a week during the season, im sure it will be fine. but given what happened to my buddies jacket, i wouldn't trust it to last a season on my back
for 95% of riders out there, it will probably do the job just fine. EDIT: also just checked, for the same price you can get a hell of a lot better gear in a late season sale like on evo rn. 686, volcom, dc, burton, armada, etc. all for around the same price as dope. hell, even an arcteryx for like 80 bucks more

Dope snow: the cariuma of the ski/snowboard world.
Cariuma actually doing good shoes! Not that chip "one day crap" produced by several world famous skate brands
I recently bought dope snow so I’m kinda committed this season to wearing it, however I would much rather prefer a company that gives back to the sport, in ways other than more advertisement 😂 what’s your go to company so I can keep it on my radar for the next time I need to buy one?

lol like snowboarding might die out? Snowboarders are just sounding like elitist skiers now.
It's not even cheap really
@@mktrvls you can find cheaper better gear at local shops.
Lol

Gortex is both so I pay for it. Having said that, if anyone paid me to ski Id wear a dang furry outfit if thats what they wanted me to.
it is easier to spot a Jerry with this brand than good shreder
Simple question to ask yourself. Are the ski resort employees wearing that?
That's a nice user pic you got there 😀

The best company I’ve ever worked with ❤
I admit I’m a beginner and I bought a Montec jacket during summer.
Nah you're good man don't worry. What mountain are you going to?
@@Coach4.5.0 blue mountain in Ontario

Fun fact: my friend's family owns the factory that made these two brands' clothes in Ningbo, China. 😂 ¥599 here and $599 there.
Yep 🤣🤣 make it low cost to have a higher margin
599? Their clothes are really cheap. A jacket is like 120 bucks+-
@@LuuuugnMy bad.

Appreciate you man! But this wasn’t an ad.
After riding for Dope this season I grew to absolutely the love the brand, the product, and the people behind it all. Given the mass amount of unmerited hate the brand gets, I wanted to make this video to show off the facts. Something I’m passionate about!

Its nice, makes retail brand outerwear not so mainstream when 80% of skiiers are wearin pastel pink, green dope/montec fits up in the mountain
Head of R&D used to make supersuits for the incredibles
what people forget is that a lot of recent brands that are now established have more or less started this way. Armada for instance started similarly to this. online only. few things being sold at the beginning. but look at them now. competing with top brands for all mountain skis, great outerwear as well. people need to just chill out on the "sheep" mentality and follow others while not experiencing the product. my wife just got a montec jacket and loves it.
when the first came out the BIG branding is what turned me off...im happy to see they are being more subtle with it now...maybe one day ill find a garment sublet enough for me to purchase.

even more reason for people to just go buy the incredibly good 80-100 dollar jackets that are out there instead of Dopes garbage.
Thanks for sharing, really helpful! Do you know if Montec Wear and Dope Snow have black friday sales?
Should be a hoot.

would like to see them do a bit more for the community but you're a great example of a good start.
The prices of the jackets are pretty appealing I guess but the pants prices are ridiculous for the lack of quality. For the price you could just get any good quality pant from Capeesh, harlaut, arsenic or vulgus.
“Core” Skiers and snowboarders hate on anything that is successful. It’s part of the deal.
All I see in this video is a smart marketing move from dope/montec.
How much did they pay you?
What is smart about a paid ad masking as pseudo investigative journalism from a sponsored personality?

It is what it is. Cheap price for cheap gear. You want the best? You gotta pay for it.
the only brand i care about is my skis and boots, as long as my outer wear is waterproof i’m chillin
The interview with Asheesh reminded me of Nigel Tufnel giving a tour of his guitar room. This fabric goes to 11
Their gears ok , looks great , comfortable and I’ve had mine for 3 seasons and is still good ….I put their bad vibes down to the usual snobbery of skiing.
I'm rocking a beautiful Montec set, but I freeze in my jacket!
i bought a pair of montec bibs this season and snowboarded 33 days, there's some scratches and stains, but I never had snow get in(unless it was too warm and i was only wearing a tshirt under them😂).
I really wanted a dope snow jacket 🧥 and I search and all of that and after two weeks I found out they don't ship to Israel
So this is not technically an ad while being absolutely an ad. 💀
Heard good things, and the price point is fair.
im a bigger dude, happy with how my montec fit
@@slasher5273 what kind do you have if you don't mind me asking?
So no more Nines footy? Their main channel only put out like 3 vids, Andri had 2, it's just not enough
