  • Beacn may have just released my favourite microphone for live streaming ever, the Beacn Mic. So I compared it against the Shure SM7B and the Rode Procaster. How did it do?

      Bought it. Ive noticed from some other reviews the sound seems to be a little variable and not that consistent. Some sound sort of thin when compared to some of the other dynamic mics. However, I am coming from my main mic being my Corsair HS70 headset lol. I was leaning towards the Wave 1 or 3 mainly because of the affordability and obviously the software...but I really wanted a dynamic mic for the natural noise suppression and warm broadcaster sound. Although...I am noticing it's not as "warm" as many of the other dynamic mics. Guess we'll see how it sounds on my own voice once I get it and set it up.

    I have watched several videos on this microphone and yours was the only one which had the microphone configured correctly so that it didn’t sound muffled and muddy. Thank you for taking the time and for this thorough review - nice job! In my opinion the mic is not quite as good as the SM7B, but it is close and the value proposition considering all of the other features definitely makes this an interesting product! Cheers!

    • @SamWoodhall
      @SamWoodhall  2 роки тому +1

      No worries! I think it's a different beast. A great mic for streamers and live broadcasters that want a good sounding mic, with mixing software, with built in EQ and compression without additional hardware. The SM7B is a king of a mic but I hardly recommend it to anyone looking to just stream. It's waaay to expensive for just being a streaming mic.

    • @SuperMakeSomething
      @SuperMakeSomething 2 роки тому

      @@SamWoodhall Definitely agree about the SM7B being overkill just for streaming. I will be interested to see how BEACN updates their software in the future as well. Thanks again for the great review (in both of your videos about their new products)!

    • @SamWoodhall
      @SamWoodhall  2 роки тому +2

      It's hard to gauge that as it has a noise gate built in. So what works for me might not for you and you can adjust it your end. I felt like it would be a redundant test. But with the right settings it could cut out keyboard clicks.

    Very interesting. The Software looks pretty good and the Mic sounds great too. For me the SM7B sounds more "smooth" and "clear" but it goes at the same direction at a lower price which is awesome. Im pumped what Beacn is going to achieve in this market. First products looking good!

    I think I was hearing a lot of plosives in this video - is that a drawback of this mic or is it something that can be resolved with a bit of tuning to your environment, etc?

      I used the Elgato one for the video and the mic is pretty light so the stand does bounce up from time to time. I'd say the Rode is a good option for it. I'm also aware of a cheaper one of a similar build quality to the Rode one on Amazon but I forget the name.

    Okay, I need this mic. I’ve been using a Condenser mic (Yeti X) for about 2 years now, and while it’s nice, I always wanted a Dynamic mic. I’ve seen how good the SM7B is, but it’s super expensive. This might just be my next purchase.

      Microsoft doesn’t support USB Audio Class, but otherwise, any USB mic that works on USB and UAC will work on PS4 and 5 (Mayflower Arc Mk2, as an example, is a USB powered Headphone Amp and DAC with a 3.5mm microphone input as well, and works as a full device for PC or PS4/5, no extra software needed).

    Tall ask for the price. The audio is just not even close in quality to cheaper xlr mics. Yes you need an audio interface for an xlr mic but that's a smart, long term investment whereas this is just an okay usb mic. Get an audio interface and good xlr mic, set for life.

    Yes, a USB dynamic mic with these features is convenient. But in terms of sound, it doesn't hold a candle to many very budget XLR dynamic mics such as the sEV7, SM58 and Sennheiser e835 even if the additional cost of a decent audio interface is taken into account. For the price they are asking, even an sE Dynacaster with a solid audio interface wouldn't cost much more and would also provide far better sound quality. I have to admit though, they have done some impressive things with their software.
