She would prob pause every now and again and tut tut at something. "The history of the present King of Great Britain is a history of repeated injuries and usurp-...... well that is true but I wouldn't put it like that...."
Dame Maggie Smith is legend, wherever she appears she turns it into masterpiece No surprise though, how could Professor McGonagall be anything less than a perfectionist
I love the fact that Bates sat in the audience watching all this discussion. Also, the synopsis of Downtown Abbey's scandals throughout the four decades.
Two great actors. Downton Abbey brings a sort of comfort that allows the audience to melt into days gone by. We watch not only because it's entertaining but I think mostly to allow our souls to transcend back to a time we desire still existed and possibly lived before.
When I first saw this when they aired the last episode, I thought it was absolute genius. And I loved the calm explanation over why Bates gained such undying loyalty from Robert: they have no idea what it was, since it hasn't come up in the script yet! XD
I had watched the whole series 3 times, never get tired of it. Best TV drama series ever produced . I have been watching so many British shows for years , even my children liked them, we used to all gather in my bedroom Saturday nights and watched the Bucket woman, Mr. Bean, Grace's brothers , eating popcorn. Those were the good old days......
@Ber P. Why is he an insult to "gaydom"? Just because he's a dick to almost everyone? The reason he treats everyone else like shit is because he's so miserable in his own life. While I wouldn't say that's an admirable trait, I would argue it makes his character more complex and interesting.
Jango Yifftail Maybe because a lot of other people in the series struggle and suffer just as much and don’t constantly take it out on others? I mean, not having a love life wasn’t really the exception for a servant, it was more like the rule. As a man, you wouldn’t have been able to marry before you were able to provide for a family...which could easily take till your mid twenties or longer. And as a young women...well, I think the example of Ethel made it abundantly clear, what happened to a girl in service, that stepped out of line in that regard. Or think of Mrs Hughes...who clearly had never been intimate with a man EVER, before she married Mr. Carson. Same for Mrs. Patmore. Or Mrs O‘Brian. Or do you think, they felt less lonely, just because they‘re women and not particularly attractive? I‘ve never seen anyone comment on how sad their lack of loving partners or the chance of a having a family is. So him being ‚lonely‘ or whatever is hardly an excuse for being the miserable son of a bitch he was 95% of the time. He wasn’t bullied or humiliated or whatever...except maybe that one time, Carson told him off. He was treated perfectly fine and given chance after chance after chance....only to revert back to stealing, cheating and bullying. Not to mention, that he was a coward, who got himself shot in the hand by design, so he would be send home from war. And still he thought, he was better than everyone else. He is really a completely despicable character...but all is excused, because he’s an unhappy gay guy (and pretty, of course) Oh, bu-huh. People 😏
Two of the most brilliant underrated actors. Maggie Smith is a legend as always. Hugh Bonneville is just SO charming and mystifying. They are both simply my favourite!! ❤
This brings back memories. Thank Paddington and Professor McGonagall for reminding us about 18th century posh, complicated relationships in family and staff and tragic deaths on my favourite DA characters... (Sybil, Matthew, William) 🏛️❤️😭
About time Dame Maggie Smith was being recognised! We do have so many talented people on these islands, whether professional, or local amatuer. Need to cherish people more I feel?
I was Johnny come lately to watch Downton Abbey but thanks to Amazon prime, I gobbled up all six seasons plus the two movies and now alas, what do I have to look forward to now?.😢
What an ingenious drama series this is ..I watched it all the first time around ..by mistake …and I was immediately hook ….the whole thing is superb…the actors the writing the costumes….everything ….I will watch it again ….can’t get enough of it ….what an ensamble….every actor is superb….
Love, love, love anything Downton!! I love Barrow and agree he could have a documentary of his own!! Maybe to go into some of his darkest secrets.. Hmmmmm!!
THANK YOU for a most enjoyable addendum, I thoroughly enjoyed this! Hat's off to Julian Fellowes for his tremendous series, the world has truly fallen in love with his story telling. FANTASTIC!
...I see ANYthing with la grande Dame Maggie, I’m in...to use the ancient trite saying, I’d absolutely tune in to watch and hear her read a phone book...;)!❤️
I could listen to Maggie Smith read the declartion of independence backward and still be entertained the entire time!
Honestly that would be really entertaining.
A British reading the American declaration of independence, that would be ironic and would be a butthurt moment
Who couldn't be entertained if you read an entire declaration backwards, is that even possible?
She would prob pause every now and again and tut tut at something.
"The history of the present King of Great Britain is a history of repeated injuries and usurp-...... well that is true but I wouldn't put it like that...."
Thankfully she wouldn't, she's too British to read anything American.
Dame Maggie Smith is legend, wherever she appears she turns it into masterpiece

*Spoiler Alert* Professor Umbridge is the Queen. #HogwartsDowntonAbbeyCrossover

The BEST Mother-Son duo ever written. #FortheLoveofDownton
When she mistook him for a waiter and shaded him when Mary n Robert came to pay a visit after the hospital takeover.
No Script for Maggie! She is a Legend !
Deborah Greene 🙌🏻
"Robert, I sometimes wonder if you shouldn't get out more." Lol 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
I love the fact that Bates sat in the audience watching all this discussion. Also, the synopsis of Downtown Abbey's scandals throughout the four decades.
Four?
OH I love this, this self-lacerating humour is so British and better than any sort of promo they could’ve done for the film.
Two great actors, but Maggie Smith is unbelievable, amazing, wonderful, she's divine👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Oh how I grew up watching this lady, she made me love my English lessons in school bse of the way she commands respect when speaking it! Respect just!
How I love the Dowager Countess of Grantham, an absolute diamond and one of Britain's greatest actresses!
❤
I love this show. Dame Maggie Smith you are what every actress aspires to become...Perfection!!!♥️

I can not tell you how much I love Downton Abbey.
...And right at the end, there was “Mr. Bates” sitting in the audience, smiling and clapping! 😊
Bravo, Downton Abbey Players! 🌷
When I first saw this when they aired the last episode, I thought it was absolute genius. And I loved the calm explanation over why Bates gained such undying loyalty from Robert: they have no idea what it was, since it hasn't come up in the script yet! XD
Who else is re-watching the whole series in preparation? 😄
Binge watching now!
Me. Im on season 4 🥰.

You just gotta love Dame Maggie Smith ❤️
Maggie no script needed such a perfectionist
"Barrow deserves a documentary of his own"-Hello, can we please get that?
Yes! Do it for the gays! XD
I second that!!
@Ber P. Why, exactly?
@Ber P. Why is he an insult to "gaydom"? Just because he's a dick to almost everyone? The reason he treats everyone else like shit is because he's so miserable in his own life. While I wouldn't say that's an admirable trait, I would argue it makes his character more complex and interesting.

Why would they put him in Mary's room? 🤣
“...Where did she sleep?”
He wasn't crazy... He was foreign!
Great to see Maggie doing a sketch again, review style. She always was a scream
She began her stage carreer as a comedy review artist - and with Kenneth Williams. Brilliant comic timing.
This brings back memories. Thank Paddington and Professor McGonagall for reminding us about 18th century posh, complicated relationships in family and staff and tragic deaths on my favourite DA characters... (Sybil, Matthew, William)
🏛️❤️😭
I've been a fan of Maggie Smith since I saw "The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie" as a kid. She just gets better and better.
I Haven't had such a good laugh after watching this clip for a long time as both actors compliment each other
This is wonderful. I had not seen this clip till now...Brava Lord Grantham and Duchess.

Hat's off to Julian Fellowes for his tremendous series, the world has truly fallen in love with his story telling. FANTASTIC!
They should do comedy like this on award shows in America!!
"except one" damn violet, was not expecting that one!
I didn't get that, could you explain?
flav' I haven’t watched the show in a while but from what I recall, Mary lost interest in him after their secret stay at the hotel.
Laurastoria It was because she realized he was not the one. I’m team Charles x Mary. Couldn’t give a hell about the man she eventually married
She’s iconic
I love when actors parody themselves, their characters and their show.
...I see ANYthing with la grande Dame Maggie, I’m in...to use the ancient trite saying, I’d absolutely tune in to watch and hear her read a phone book...;)!❤️

Brilliant show and a great movie
Fabulous
Did anyone see the actor who plays Mr. Bates in the audience?
They cut to him right at the end.
All of this anxiety waiting for the movie in September has put me in a serious spot of bother.
Her mastery of the English aristocracy was brilliant in every way!!
