Unpopular opinion: I like Ostapenko as a player. Yes she’s had her fair share of controversy but her pinpoint accuracy is extremely satisfying to watch. It’s also really funny to see her reactions to her opponents’ winners and sometimes her drama is very entertaining.
It's Ostapenko as a person, or at least her public persona, with which I have a problem.

@@JulianSirian she’s been known to be nasty on court when she lets emotion take over. She often gives cold handshakes and according to some players, she takes advantage of medical timeouts (which is definitely a problem for professional tennis)
Ostapenko is a character. She’s good for the game. I’ve heard she’s extremely friendly off court. I love to watch her.
Watching Ostapenko when she's in the zone is like watching the Incredible Hulk on a rampage 🙂 I want to see this version of Ostapenko take on 1ga!

Why not? grass is not Iga's fave surface than Osta who performed well there and won a title as well.
She did look like the Hulk when she wore a green an purple outfit.
Ostapenko so hard to beat when she's on. She's a pure striker...very hard to teach, a lot of raw talent. Her easy power from the ground reminds me of Seles or Pierce. Using her entire body too like a kinetic chain to get that power.
She may have come dressed as a piñata, but she was the one throwing the punches. Well done.

Congrats on Camila making the SF, and great play from Jelena.
She may win or lose the match.... but ostapenko's style of play - always firing the guns - no matter the situation of the match is what keeps many ( me too ) watch her play . Her brand of tennis - hitting winners at will is so good. Today ostapenko looked like she was hitting the top gear.
Ostapenko is naturally fearless. Win or lose, she never gets intimidated.
Let´s not forget Ostapenko won a junior Wimbledon, she can repeat the magic with such game for sure

With her first strike ability, Ostapenko is one of the few players who can trouble Swiatek, who is not as dominant on grass (yet anyway) as other surfaces. Will be fun to see how Jelena does at Wimbledon. She's good for the game!!
the handshake at the end, Ostapenko pulled Camila’s hand towards her to give her a sign that she is the boss, I just love her 🤣🤣🤣
It seems Giorgi's only way to beat Osta in this match would have been to smack the balls away before Osta did but she just couldn't. Osta's groundstrokes were very precise and she hit the balls so early.
I think Giorgy should have tried to take pace off from the ball, to hit even more the angles while keeping the ball low, this way Ostapenko may had to reduce her pace and maybe Giorgy could have won more points this way.

Honey, Ostapenko was playing like she had an important appointment to get to, and wanted to wrap this baby up fast! So she switched into pinpoint precision gear and got it done!
She was early to the appointment. Her timing isn't to be questioned! She's like an toddler who does algebra in her dreams.
80% of her shots, she didn't have to move her feet. Just like Serena, if all you do is hit to the middle third of the court, where they don't have to pursue the ball, its trouble. Giorgi couldn't find the corners at all.
Love it! Ms. Congeniality overpowers another. She is definitely a handful when she is striking the ball like that, and needs to be considered among the frontrunners for Wimbledon. Felt bad for Giorgi who was in over her head with Ostapenko today.

I could see this happening. 2 of the hardest hitters on the womans tour, but JO goes for a winner on 1st strike, Giorgi likes to hit 2-3 shots before going for the winner. You have to make JO run cuz once she finds her groove, she'll blast the winners.
The unstoppable JO... can make it look like it's amateur night for everyone...when shes on her game. GO JELENA!
Jelena is the one player on tour where you’d be scared that any groundstroke will be a winner no matter where she hits it from if you were to play against her. Reminds me of her blasting winners from even way behind the baseline during her Roland Garros win in the final

lol I'm always rooting for ostapenko silently (because I know and understand why people don't like her)....her game is perfect for grass, but then we have pliskova who has the flat powerful strokes perfect for grass, AND the big serve and still, so I just hope Ostapenko can play to her potential at wimbledon.

I would rather say that Miss Ostapenko must have a lumberjack in her family! And when she has the ax well in hand, it cuts short! She anticipates the opponent's game well and her lucidity allows her to place herself well. Unbeatable! And I think her little outfits suit her very well. And Bam! Camila had a lot of courage and did everything to destabilize, but Jelena's level was above. Very interesting match, all in honor of the 2 players. Kudos to both of you.
Ostapenko I think is the one player who can beat Swiatek on current form. The number of pure winners off her racket are astounding. If she plays like she did today consistently, I’d love to see her match up against Swiatek at Wimbledon..

Giorgi got a taste of her own medicine.
This is how Ostapenko beat Swiatek the previous 2 times they've played. First strike, big babe tennis!
But it had been the time shortly before Iga changed her tennis strategy . She had played too many balls to the centre of the court and too many backhands landed in the centre high bouncing. I believe today Iga would played more aggressively. She actually served for the match in Dubai but lost her aggression and Osta managed to steal the victory in a tiebreak of a third set however...if they play on grass..i would say 50:50

it’s probably been some time since the last post but i followed the thread enough to see typical jusgeements about jelena. i like the statement “she’s good for the game” because i can see how that could be. she doesn’t have a nike or adidas endorsement like the big timers so who knows…. she may sew those clothes together. or not. and to call her a baby elephant? that’s the judgmental nature of tennis fans. she’s overweight, she grunts, she’s brash. that girl slaps though and she plays hard. she’s like a running back , if we are to create a more positive comparison for her. i know she can be unpleasant but man. she’s not that savage ppl make her out to be.

Una pena, confiaba en que Camila llegara a la final pero lo cierto es que la letona ha hecho un partido perfecto y no le dio opción. I always love Ostapenko, but I never root for her for fear of having my heart broken. I also said that if Ostapenko could take a tournament or two off and focus on her serve (2nd), then nobody, yes I said it, nobody could keep up with her (including my favorite Iga). PERIOD! Maybe this is a dumb question but why do players play high level tournaments a week before slams? Like won’t they be too tired for Wimbledon now vs somebody who has has a training week and a chance to get used to london
@@krob2327 they plan all this stuff out months in advance and have been doing periodized training since they were children; its crazy to us but a few high level matches actually primes their bodies rather than tires them out

I just assumed the very top players always sat out the week before the slams as they didn’t need the money and preferred to practice as it allowed for a more ‘rested’ body going into the slams . I really enjoy the grass season so not complaining at the number of tournaments aha.

I haven’t seen Ostapenko in a while and she really looks big, was she injured and hasn’t made her way back into shape yet? Either way, it looks like she knows she won’t last a match with long rallies so she pounds the ball to end the point quickly one way or another. Her ball striking in this match was Serena-like…well done
5:29 the umpiring is blatantly against the rules. The ball was called out well before Giorgi made contact and she was clearly able to have made a defensive shot in return had the call not been made before she initiated her stroke and made contact. I am shocked she did not speak up bc that is by the book a replay of the book, it cannot go automatically to Ostapenko, Giorgi made it to the ball but was hindered by the incorrect out call. Awful umpiring

Players like Ostapenko like their opponent's ball to come with a lot of force and speed, in this way it's easier for her to hit the ball from her racket. Where Giorgi will play with more slice and take it to the extremes from side to side of the court, believe me, she will unbalance Ostapenko's game IMHO!
