Boy, these last two matches against Halep and Kudermetova, Ostapenko was AWESOME. Hard to think of anyone who could have beaten her when she is playing at this level. Hope she can keep it up. Would make a great year for her.
Barty probably the only one who could have beaten Ostapenko in this form. Ash has so much more variety than the other players.
@@peterhammer4644 yep. Penko only has a few shots altho these are quite powerful too. Maybe Barty wont let her use those shots and probably mix it up with a few drop shots to make her move more and keep her guessing. Penko can really hammer the returns so Barty’s serve might be more difficult

Ostapenko is having a great season so far. A good run at AO, Semi-final in St Petersburg and Champion in Dubai. By the end of the year she might finish inside the Top 10 once again!!

@@naveed8022 Her third round match against the World No. 3 Barbora Krejčíková was a battle. Jelena won the first set and put up a good fight in the other two. Could not win but left her mark with a solid performance. Putting Barbora who was 'playing her best tennis' under pressure seems pretty fine to me.

Wow what a performance by Aljona! I feel like she's been getting back to her confident self since winning Eastbourne last year. She's been in impeccable form this tournament and rightfully deserves her new ranking of #13 after this title win. I know she said her goal was to make it back to the top-10 in 2022 and I fully believe that she'll be able to do that.

Ostapenko back at her best! What an incredible week she has had. Beating 4 Grandslam champions on the way to the final is simply remarkable. She was just crushing her opponents with her forehand and backhand winners all week! With a powerful and more reliable serve she would be unbeatable!! Well deserved victory 👏🏆🙌❤️

With her current level of playing, i can comfortably bet Ostapenko could be one of the very few players who can give a tough match against Barty.
When it all comes together she is a force of nature.
Ostapenko made it look so easy. So smooth.
I too had to applause from Australia at the end, Jelena has played so well, her powerful forehand and awesome angled backhand cross court shots were the best. Dannielle Colins has a similar cross court well angled shot. Aust Open 2022.... Jelena will be a force in the doubles final as well.

Jelena hasn't looked this good since she won the 2017 French Open . Glad to see she's back in form. She is one of the players I hoped would take over where Serena left off as far as "consistency". .

Thanks to WTA for the re-post (after the sound issues)! THIS is what EVERYONE should expect from a Former Grand Slam Champion! Nobody can deny the talent Jelena possesses! Unfortunately, she has (in recent months & years) behaved like a "spoiled little BRAT" (both on & off court) & been fined many times for her Code Violations! However, I'm pretty sure that *because her Mother is chaperoning her these days,* she's being much more focussed on the job at hand. What she did here is testament to that! Such a great Tournament by Jelena - I love to see her *just play TENNIS!* A very well-deserved WIN! 😆
You give Ostapenko the angle or opportunity and she is going for the winner. She wants the pace and hard-hitting. She was a destroyer. Players need a better strategy against her style.
A lot of wta players are one dimensional. Only Barty or even krejicova could disrupt ostapenko rhyme

Jelena was unstoppable this tournament.
As well as ostapenko is playing which is great to see I’m so surprised that the girls on tour are so one dimensional trying to out hit her when she is in such a rhythm wouldn’t you try to change paces add lobs drop shots slices to get her off rhythm. That is why ash Barty is so dominant she does exactly that and makes these players look like beginners sometimes.

Jelena is playing well, but her strength is in her ball placement, everything else she is just about the same as everyone else.

Ostapenko a well deserved winner this week with the way she's firing on both wings - that backhand and the way she returns; lets see if she can carry that form in the tournaments leading up to the French Open. If she can improve her 2nd serve, she will a major threat for the top 10 players.

Great striking of the ball by Ostapenko! Her powerful shots from both sides were really the deciding factor in this match. Kudermetova played well and is a very classy player, but this time just could not hold out against the onslaught from Ostapenko. Well done Jelena!
