Helpful video. My factory gauge quit working. I was pulling a dump trailer loaded heavy with chucks of concrete on a super hot day. Checked the gauge and it was maxed out in the red. Put a new stepper motor in the cluster assembly and now the gauge doesn't move at all. Next step is after market gauges. Trans temp, exhaust temp and boost. Have an 04.5 LLY just now getting close to 100k on it.
Thanks man. I'm a firm believer in knowing your temperatures and whats going on. When a idiot light lights up, its usually too late. Gauges help identify a problem before its a problem. Injust turned over 238k this week. Safe travels 👍🏻
I think it would be interesting to toggle between two separate points for reading the transmission temperature. One sensor in the pan and the other one that you just installed. Connecting through the switch to the same gauge would allow for toggling between the separate locations. Then check those readings against the factory install. Your thoughts.
I actually had thought about that. I totally agree it'd be neat to compare different location readings. I do know where it's at currently, the stock gauge moves sooner and higher than the aftermarket gauge/location. Once hot, they both read about the same though. Stock reading higher some. I would kind of like to add a sensor to my engine oil pan now that I have the PPE deep pan there also. Its already taped for a sensor so it'd be an easy hook up also.
My 2024 freightliner m2 transmission temp gauge is sitting at 125 and didn't move all day of driving. Is that normal? I only have 11k miles and noticed the gauge working before. Any advice?
Sorry, I'm not familiar with semis or their trans temps. Could be a difference in location and ambient temps. 40° in one state and 85° in another. Heck even in the same state, one week to the next can fluctuate this time of year. Hope everything is good.
hey, i am haveing issues with my allison transmission, Freight Liner 2007 m2 the range inhibit light comes on when the truck reaches temp of about 180, then it shuts off. but if the truck is below that temp no issues occurs, any ideas or thoughts? please let me know!
Oh wow. I'm sorry, I don't know. My best guess would be an internal temperature sensor or switch. If you have a code reader, I'd hook it up the next time it happens and see what codes show up.
Yes, it's s an Allison. I have an ATP tune that was supposed to be trans safe with a max 90hp over stock. When I'd step on it to pass or get on the highway, it'd go into limp mode sometimes. I swapped the trans myself with some help from a buddy at their garage with a lift. Took about 6-7 hrs if I remember correctly.

With 230K miles and assuming your old transmission was Allison, why was it slipping? Did you do the R&R of the transmission yourself?
