I’m here in 2020 after seeing a clip on Chamath on CNBC. We’re currently in quarantine due to the CoVid-19 pandemic and I’m obsessed with his story. I’ve been watching any video I can about his struggle and success. So refreshing to hear an intelligent speaker who found such success in life
The interviewer is one of the rare guys who is actually listening to his guest, his story and asking good follow up questions. Chamath as usual is such a great speaker. I feel like taking notes every time he speaks and he speaks from the heart - great speaker in my books.
This! Chamath was... Chamath. Brilliantly articulate and fascinating. But the kudos in this interview goes to the interviewer who really stepped up to the plate and brought the best out of his interviewee.
Love this guy! Thank you for the interview. Really amazing. One of my top guys in my radar that I am paying attention to. Really brilliant and has good intentions.
"I know what failure feels like, it feels okay" I believe this is the underlining secret. Everyone is terrified by risk, but with calculated risks, doing your due diligence. Everything should come out okay.
Chamath is a global Ambassador and guide for those who are willing to grind through life, too the point of being centered around their destiny. As a Bay Area native (Richmond CA) I appreciate his grit, brains and sense of playing into his strengths! Bravo John for conducting a timeless discussion! #smartevolves #underrepresented #edgecase
He gloats a lot but deservedly so. Personally, I’m following this guy into the night bc I think he’s onto something with his thesis. It’s obvious he does have his biases as we all do; but if you can dissect what he says from the psychology of how this dude thinks, you can really understand the mind of a what is now, billionaire. He was recommending the CEO of a multi national corporation to buy a billion dollar company at age 27. Most of us can’t even get our bosses to agree to leave 15 min early on a Friday.
I don’t know when he lost his dad, but if he could see him today he’d be as proud of his son as a parent can be. What a brilliant guy. I hope he is as humble in person as he seems in interviews.
I don’t know if Chamath is “visionary” or not but he sure is a great human being who wants to give and serve. An inspiration for others in Silicon Valley!
I am a fangirl of this super intelligent, empathetic, pragmatic, tell it as it is, humble guy who uses his fortune to guide society to a better place. Brilliant! i have been bingeing everything I can find about him.
I wish the interviewer had asked follow-up questions to prompt him to finish his journey through high school and college. Anyways, it's a very powerful and inspiring story, and interview. Thank you Chamath for inspiring all the entrepreneurs out there. You're living a perfect American dream! Went from nothing to becoming an ethical and responsible billionaire!
I’ve allready bought your spac focused on the change of diabetics. I myself right now on the beginning of starting a non profit for my son and all children like him. He has cebral palsy , short gut syndrome , blind, and micro cephalics. Thank you sir for wanting to make a change. And I met my father on his death bed so I can relate to how much it means to change the future generations. Thanks again. You deserve your place in life.
A couple of weeks ago saw the first time his interview at CNBC. That was by far the most intelligent opinion about the situation at a larger scale. Since then I have started to look for his earlier interviews and become a bit of a fan of the guy. He is fairly smarter and more intelligent than most of the people. And he has a visionary view of the business and future developments, so it really matters to check his opinion when placing the investments into the stocks.
Chamath is awesome...highly intelligent, brutally honest, transparent & down to earth....did I mention Gorgeous? Too bad he's married & younger than me. I do not know about his spiritual beliefs but he kinda reminds me of a Ravi Zacharias & Vandana organic farming lady...quite a beautiful guy Stephanie M
Since I've been following finance and buying a few stocks it's lead me to take more chances in life generally. I didn't know how afraid of change I was. Thanks to all involved in this inspiring story !
Obviously brilliant and successful. Incredibly articulate about his ideas, as well. Then combine that with immigrant drive and experience ‘hustling.’ I love the humbleness too of his statement that, “it is easy to conflate success with luck” and how he credits his mentor. Funny that he has to make clear that decision making in business is often done with the gut and should actually be done with data and fact. Seems so simple, almost obvious/trite, but it isn’t. It reminds me of how powerfully Elon takes complex issues back to fundamental principles. Break the issue down and then grind on it. Also, like Elon, who was not content with his PayPal riches, he decided that wealth is not enough, and wants to change the world. However, on disruption…I read The Innovator’s Dilemma and it all seemed so true to me. I still do believe in the power of disruption, but it has gained a cult-like status in the valley. Particularly the book but also the idea need to be taken with a grain of salt. Here’s a good critique: www.newyorker.com/magazine/2014/06/23/the-disruption-machine Peace!
A year ago at 36 j gave myself a 5 year plan to full time invest, I could focus on what I love. I find myself 1-1/2 years later trying to make that 5 years 2. So that gives me 3&1/2 years to focus on new stuff abd help the cause. When you have different skills , since early days of nan hood , people thought it was different (disruptive) because people fear change even it’s better for them or not.
Good morning Mr Palihapitiya, I would like to ask you. My Son opened a Bitcoin fabric in Paraguay. He invested all his money on bitcoin. Now he is sooo disappointed with it. My question is, should he sell it. Or hold it, and wait? I appreciate your answer. From Portugal.
I like how he cleverly rewrites his story about the Srilankan ethnic conflict. The majority Buddhist Sinhalese population through constitutional decree denied the minority Hindu Tamil ppl their constitutional rights to live in Srilanka. Hence the Tamils fought, first thru civil dialogue and when it failed, later with militancy with support from the Tamil diaspora in India and around the world wherever Srilankans lived. The uprising was eventually put down with funding and arms supply of $1 billion given as loans by the Chinese in exchange for leasing their ports to China (debt-trap diplomacy). Millions of Tamils were ethnically cleansed from Northern Srilanka with the international community not intervening on the massacres. The real refugees were the minority Tamils and not the majority Sinhalese.

ASAP_Hookgrip _ I'm doing the same. He provides so much valuable information every time he speaks.
ASAP_Hookgrip _ Same here. April 2020. He is such an inspiration. I am devotee now.
He got the smarts for sure. and it gets better in other videos. his Man is an innovator. WE need more of him. @ Japanese work ethic

Chamath Palihapitiya is smarter than most.
and not a bad poker player as well. u havent stop by bellagio for years.
Aren't 49% of people "smarter than most".
Dean Weng no.
That includes Chamath.
He's wise- but sadly, i feel he's on the wrong side- being an NBL owner throws him into the league of the Cabal- a very DISRUPTIVE entity
Why am I just finding out about this guy. My day is gone, I’m just gonna keep watching his interviews
Because he defended Tesla on CNBC a few days ago.
And look where Tesla is now
He's truly amazing.
He keeps climbing and climbing. This Man is an innovator. WE need more of him. @ Japanese work ethic
Brilliant.
Brother.. I'm touched by your humility..
Chamath is brilliant, but also kudos to the interviewer for guiding such an interesting conversation organically and asking such great questions!
"The problem with success is that its so easy to conflate luck and skill"..Well said!
& timing.
What a great guy. Came from absolute nothing and now is a billionaire. Now he’s giving back.
We can learn a lot from him and how to make the country better. This Man is an innovator. WE need more of him. @ Japanese work ethic

No he's not. He married a rich Italian heiress, abandoned his claimed goals, and is reputed to be a bully and compulsive gambler.

He is not tech's next Warren Buffett, he is the first Chamath Palihapitiya
What struck me the most was when he said "Everything I apply in success I learned in failure or hardship"

Back then FB wasn’t worth billion, probably Mark would be happy with a couple millions
Lol
chamath has the ability to let all interviewers listen carefully and engage. that's an amazing skill.
I don’t know when he lost his dad, but if he could see him today he’d be as proud of his son as a parent can be. What a brilliant guy. I hope he is as humble in person as he seems in interviews.
Great Princess Bride reference, WTF? Let's GO!!!!!
“Garden State Warriors”- had no idea Steph and crew were based out of New Jersey now.
I heard that too... Insane!

he needs to be on joe rogan
