As you said "Realising the truth long before the characters in the story" is completely incorrect for The Usual Suspects. Verbal getting his lighter back is literally 2 or 3 minutes before the credits roll. Picking up on this "Clue" spares you maybe 20 seconds of waiting for the plot twist reveal.

James Spencer Ah, I'm not too sure about that. I thought it was pretty well done, and Nolan left plenty of clues for the audience. For one, Borden always seems to be surrounded by some mysterious dude named Fallon, who happens to never talk, and resembles Borden if you look closely. Secondly, from quite early on in the movie, you see the mood swings that Borden is prone to, especially with regards to his affection for his wife (or lack thereof), which was another clue. Plus, Michael Caine's narration specifically discusses paying close attention and blah blah blah.

In Inception, in the elevator scene where Leonardo DiCaprio shows Ellen Page his memories, he says something like "In my dreams I'm still with her". Throughout the film you can see a wedding ring on Leo's left hand only in the dream scenes, which resembles that they are together, and no ring at all in the real life scenes. You can also see Leo putting his left hand on the chair in the final scene of the movie, clearly being able to see whether there's a ring or not, which explains if that final scene was a dream or reality.

I saw Shutter Island's twist coming because they advertised that the film had a twist ending. When you go into the film having been told that there's a twist ending, you start looking for any clue that might expose it before it arrives.
I didn't go into The Sixth Sense expecting a twist ending (perhaps maybe I should have, but it was one of the first M. Night films I ever watched, so I didn't know he was into doing that at the time)

My favorite movie clues that I didn't catch the first time through was in "A Beautiful Mind" when its believed that his best friend was real. It becomes more apparent as it goes into the movie, like when his best friend's niece runs through the flock of pigeons and they don't fly off. There are several other hints that his friend isn't real before that as well. Although I'm usually more of a fan of fantasy and action movies, the screenplay and story of "A Beautiful Mind" makes it my favorite movie by far.

Thanks for that clue! Another clue comes earlier in the film at night when 'Verbal' is standing outside of a subway entrance. He's smoking a cigarette. The way he's holding it is not the way an American man would hold a cigarette while smoking. Very continental style.

Remus88Romulus The last movie fails horribly when it comes to common sense. Why not just nuke the damn city when they had the chance...which was their life long goal. Instead they had to hold the city hostage and inevitably reveal the league of shadows to the world, which supposedly takes down major civilizations all the time and tries to keep things a secret. The scars/symbols make sense though, it could be as simple as he liked getting them to he used them to inspire fear in his underlings. Or they were a secret language amongst his folken.

For The Usual Suspects the best one that everyone misses is that at the end after the detective throws verbal to the ground in the room the camera is focused on the detective as he is yelling at Verbal "You did see who killed Kent!" And Verbal days off camera "I did" "I did" "I did kill Kent" but you are so focused on the "I did" remark and the anger in the face of the detective that everyone misses it. So the big miss there is that Verbal actually confesses in the end knowing the detective would miss him saying it. His final trick.

For The Dark Knight Rises, there's a bigger give away, if you pay enough attention. When you follow the story with the prison at the bottom of the well, think about two things the man says.
-Once, the prisoners attacked Bane, and his mask holds the pain at bay.
-The child who escaped the prison.
Bruce Wayne assumes that the child was Bane, but think about it. If he was the child, the prisoners wouldn't have been able to attack him and cause the problems with his face, so if Bruce thought about it a bit more, he might have been able to figure it out.

  • @J.L.Media.
    @J.L.Media. 8 років тому +63

    Disagree with two of these.
I don't agree that the Usual Suspects one was really a "clue". That comes at the some time where you're being bombarded flashbacks which help Chaz's character realise the truth. It not a clue, it's part of the reveal! You might as well say the line "No, Luke I am your father." was a clue that Vader is Luke's father.
Also the Reservoir Dogs one it bs too. Yes, being a cop might be the reason he is the one who taddles on Pink, but it's not a clue. We weren't supposed to look back on that and realise he is the rat. If anything the "He's convinced me line" works the other way. I see that as being brave enough to go against the group consensus, which isn;t what you would do if you were trying to fit in. If you were putting on an act, the easiest thing to do would be to stay quiet and do what the others do.

Scott Hix I think people often forget that good twists will encapsulate the whole movie, giving it new (more streamlined) meaning. This is why the twists in '6th sense', and 'unbreakable' are so amazing - they reframe the whole thing, giving the movie new meaning on the second viewing. IMO it even goes for some video games (like Bioshock Infinite).
This is unlike most modern jumping-on-the-plot-twist-bandwagon-twists (I'm looking at you, Chris Nolan). People can say what the will about M. Night. anno 2015; no one have been able to pull off plot twists like he did.

The Usual Suspects one is ridiculous ... deductive viewers find out long before the rest of the viewers? Um, he gets that lighter like 30 seconds before it is fully revealed he is Keyser Soze.

+C Codder u mean the book is so differently to the movie that one could actually say that the movie is just the plot of the saga (or franchise), but details are uncommonly equal in relationses? yeah, atleast speakin of the last one, thats the only one i say, not sure if thats the reason why its imo the worst movie, but in any case top of the few books ive read!

I dont think the narrators of these types of videos realise that they are not the only ones who know these clues. They should say "probably" instead of "totally"

iam sorry but usual suspects, sixth sense, fight club where a twist, i dont think to many people knew who kyser sose was or tyler dergen in fight club they where a shocker. now as far as dark knight rises i knew marion cotilard was gonna be talia agul cause when the electricity went out she told story about growing up with no electricity, plus marion cotilard denied miranda tate was gonna be talia agul thats why i wasent shocked there. but ill give credit to this list.
