A quick note on heating I forgot to mention. I heat the whole room and at this time of year as it's cold outside, its sitting at circa 22c (71.6F). The shrimp and fish in this set up will be absolutely fine in the ambient temperature of a house, assuming you keep your house at 20c (68F). Obviously in the summer months, you temp will go up because of weather and this will actually replicate a natural cycle the fish and shrimp would experience in the wild. You may even see more breeding in the spring time as temps start to rise. I usually do with most species in most tanks 👍
That temp is perfect for shrimp, we shrimp keepers refer to it as the golden number 👍
@@MarksShrimpTanks nice one Mark
My house gets down to 63 at night on occasion during the winter, is that going to harm them? Should I put a heating pad nearby for that time of the year?
😊
@@Minyassasmall heater in the tank would be way more efficient
There are so many top aquascape channels here on youtube. But your is by far the best, your low tech approach, and stunning aquariums without all the gadgets is so refreshing. So much inspiration from your approach. Thank you so much. Keep up the outstanding content.
Thanks. It's what I enjoy the most.
I've based my builds off of MD and learned a lot from his channel among a few others. This rendition of my tanks are the most successful they've ever been 😁🐢
@bec2137 me too. I'm actually enjoying my tanks again by using the md approach. Plus the comedy side makes the videos easier to watch.
Check out father fish he’s probably the best
Father fish is boring as hell and his tanks are ugly @leytonmcnamee
I would like to see a “1 year after “ episode to learn what adjustments/maintenance needs to be done after it’s been settled for a while
Exactly! My bowl looks a messy bush a few months after setting up and also the glass needs cleaning all the time.
@@karinamadis6480 that's just typical planted aquarium maintenance. Get some aquarium trimmers and replant,
Seconded
I stumbled across your channel a month ago, and it got me back into this hobby. I left it for a few months when my reef tank inhabitants died. I was devastated.
Got my little freshwater tank going now. Thanks for the tips. I've learnt a lot from your videos.
I enjoy the low tech and the bowl builds.
Also watching how you glue because I always manage to glue my fingers 😂
This is exactly what I've been looking for for classroom use. Classrooms are always short of electrical outlets and what exist are needed for smart boards, laptops etc.
Fish have such a calming affect on young students.
you KNOW it is a good day when MD Fish Tanks posts!
…And puts a bowl on his head! 😅
I used to be so blah about shrimp but your videos and tanks have got me to a point now where I'm jumping up and down waving pom poms when it's shrimp time. Ok that might be an exaggeration but you catch my drift.
Loved the astronaut moment with the fishbowl-let's hope it didn't lead to an unplanned hospital mission! Your setup is a masterpiece, blending nature and artistry so seamlessly. Plus, those shrimps are going to be living their best life in such a stunning, carefully crafted world. Hats/helmets off to you for creating such a nice setup.
My cousin is an EMT and has seen glass objects (lightbulbs, bottles, etc) stuck in some rather unusual places.
_Yeah, uh… don’t do that._ 😮 😂
I used to watch Bizarre E.R and the most crazy was a toilet brush handle ........💭. After an alleged slip. 😬 Loool @@The_Crucible714
Having your backdrop for this setup be the 8-ft tank is brilliant
What you do is very humane, you give fish a safe eco system to grow and flourish. Well done again.
Dude I saw that bowl and right away I knew it was going on your head!
What a great demonstration of what can be achieved with almost no budget!
Because of the shape, I don't think I would worry about floating plants blocking the light, especially if the light is illuminating the sides of the bowl.
When you placed the bowl over your head it reminded me of the way humans used to look when ocean diving. 😃 As always, another gorgeous set up, thanks for sharing & inspiring!
I am wanting to start aquascaping and your channel is the best. Your relatable.
I have one question though that is confusing me. The substrates. Some of you put a mix in media bags, some use something like a fluval substrate and thats it or a combo of that and sand. I just dont know which way to go. I have a 40L or 10 G tank. Im in Australia. I want to keep shrimp and rasboras. An idea of substrate would be really helpful. 😂❤🐠🐟🦐 thank you 😊
This is fantastic. I have a bowl exactly like this that was a centerpiece at a friend's wedding, and I've never known what to do with it. Definitely going to make a home for some plants and shrimp.
Awesome! I just set up a little bowl with some shrimps and pearl weed and it's growing so fast already! Great video 😊
Yeah pearl weed is great for anyone with just a few tanks but would grow too fast for me in this setup. If I just had a few nanos, I'd definitely use it from day one.
@@MDFishTanks would you recommend monte carlo?
@@shortschannel6576 yes. It's the best carpeting plant. Slower growth without CO2 but will carpet in time and doesn't need huge amount of light so long as there are those nutrients locked down.
@@MDFishTanks thanks a lot!
Watched all your videos and you're the best at explaining what you're doing and how things work. Going to start my FIRST nature aquarium this weekend. Wish me luck!!
You forgot to show your sponsored products 😁 I thought I was watching QVC for a moment (only joking) Great video, as usual.
The 8-foot is gorgeous!! 🐟🌿
mr spaceman lol 🙂🙂👍👍 with that bowl on your head lol . i love your beautifull lowtech aquariums . i am a bigg fan of your channel and i learn allot from your channel . i grow-up with aquariums all mine life . i realy love it allot . i hope and wish for you that you go further in the future with youre channel for many years to come . greetings danny damveld from the netherlands , city enschede .🤩🤩🤩🤩💯👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Your channel is soo much better solo.
Stopped watching when you was in ikea shopping and playing PlayStation.😂
I've been binge watching your videos and I'm not really in a state where I can build a fish tank (Living in an apartment with 3 other extremely clumsy dudes) but in Shah Allah.
I always love your bowl builds!!! I have a bowl, but want a bigger one like yours!
The bowl looks fantastic MD! Thank you for the video.
I can’t say it enough… you have the best aquascaping channel on UA-cam. Keep up the fantastic work.
Whatever container you start with, you always make magic!! ❤️
Beautiful planting it would really look great on the dining room tables.
thats gonna look like a green bowling ball in no time! Beauty for sure but wild choice of plants for a bowl!
You're such a kid :) Sticking your head in the tank isn't the smartest idea but it's so much fun :D I liked doing that sort of things when I was little. In fact there was an emergency situation several times because of this habit to experiment with dimentions.
Once again an amazing video! Thank so much for positive vibes and quality teaching!🐟🐟🐟
I do love an MD no tech bowl scape! Another beauty 😊
Absolutely beautiful bowl MD
great video, i built a bowl from your previous video and its going great guns and i now have a peace lilly in a scape as well. Thank you for all the help
Cheers from France mate ! ❤ very nice bowl
another gorgeous setup from MD! i adored the plants in this little bowl, it looks stunning. also, i adore the music you use in your videos, does anyone ever comment on that? those retro synthwave style tracks really set your videos apart, i love it so much!
I love your fish bowl! You did a great job! It is absolutely lovely! You really inspire me. And I love your fish especially your Angel fish. Thank you for your video. I really enjoyed it.
These tent to be the most stable and long lasting systems in my experience. Even 2 gal bowls have that “slow thrive” vibe.
I have just bought myself a 45L tank to do a low tech tank going forward. I used to be manic with fish when I got my first job but we are taking our time this time! Love your stuff its giving me a lot of inspo.
That 8ft is gorgeous!
Beautiful. Love the spiky wood.
Great one brother I was just looking for a scape tutorial to y bowl too. Keep up the good work👍
Thourally enjoyed ya video the fish bowl looked fantastic
Thanks! I always learn so much.
Brilliant. I have learnt so much. Thank you 😊
The 8ft is breath taking!
Yay a new md setup today is a good day
This is so gorgeous!
I love this so much!
Love it as always.
Great content, and u actually learn something every time
definitely. I added more info this time as I learn new things to help people succeed even more.
Brilliant build MD, would love to see you do a competition scape in the future 👍
Omg I love the tank behind you. 😢❤I want one that size😢😢. I love the bowl as well!!!!
Hey MD , thanks for yet another great video . I haven't had any piscatorial friends since 2003 due to living arrangements . You , and others , have really inspired me to get back into a healthy hobby that doesn't have the potential to break bones (motorcycles) . Cheers and thanks again from Christian in Australia . Quick question : Have you ever thought about putting a bowl on a "Lazy Susan ?" . I have , and realise this one only holds 25L . Being able to slowly rotate a bowl to change the perspective or get a better look at the "other side" can't be a bad thing .
Really love seeing glimpses of previous builds and how they're doing! The ecosystem vase was so interesting. Did the shrimp and snails have to come out, or was it just a choice to do that instead of having to do water top-ups with how fast the water goes down? I'm itching to give a small vase like that a try, but need to learn more about what can go wrong and what kind of maintenance it needs lol
I LOVE this build! Thinking it's just big enough for a beta fisher do you think it would be to crowded?
I enjoy these Micro Eco Systems. ❤
I have a bowl..arium that I did similar to yours, I use it for my scuds, fun to watch!
Great video ❤from🇦🇺
I wish I could afford a hobby because this would be it! All of your tanks are so beautiful!
Vackert som vanligt MD!
Very nice, relaxing movie. I got very relaxed watching these videos.
Awesome! a Thing of beauty and a joy forever.
"its a bit too thick for my liking" stop shaming the wood! 😡😂
Really super nice setup
Hey mate, love the videos. First time commenting.
What parts did you use to make the water filler you use to fill up your tanks?
Ha! you made me laugh out loud!...Into A&E with fishbowl on your head! Thanks for another fabulous build.
Now I know how to get glue off wood! Thank you.
I think it would be really cool if you set up a diy auto top up for that little vase. It might take some creativity but you got it. Personally I like your tiny ecosystems as much as the giant ones
Wow such a large collection of wood😮😮😮
I really LOVE these big fish bowls and I would really like to get one as well at some point, but how thick should the glass be for it to be safe and not cracking? I don't think I've ever heard anyone saying that when they make bowls like this😅
Great video! I am thinking of creating an small aquascape to be positioned on a worktop in my studio. I chose to watch this video because I just wanted the aquarium to be just plants. No light, filter or fish. May sound a stupid question but as I want a cube tank and not a bowl can the technics you use in the video be applied to a cube tank set up?
둥근어항도 이쁘네요 ^^
Hello do you just clean the bio filter or do you bye replacement.
@MDFishTanks I am wondering if you if fish food goes bad over time. Great scape!
I just bought a group of 12 ruby tetras. They are very active and not shy at all. Really nice fish. I made a biotope for them.
Nice
Nice one again!
Don't you get that strange film on the top of the water?
I always get it, even with a little surface flow. What do I wrong?
We definitely need to see how it evolved in a month or two
Hi @MDFishTanks do you test for water hardness (KH and GH) I have a new tank setup (4 weeks) all parameters are fine apart from GH as we have very hard water from tap, I haven't stocked as yet as worried about the high GH. Just wondered if this is something you take note of as I am getting a lot of conflicting advice.
Great! I want to make something similar on my channel
How many tanks do you have?? Its crazy seeing all that extra aquascaping hardscape in the background!! Insane! Is this at your house??
When you mentioned the planaria in your shrimp breeding tank, what did you end up using to treat it?
Edited as it was covered half way through.....should watch first before commenting 😀
That looks amazing. What kind of fish would you advise for a newby doing this? I jad guppies once amd ended up woth hundreds of babies, thankfulky my Dad has always had bog fish tanks and took the babies in. I also had nein tetras and mountain cloud minows. These are my favourite small fish. My Dads old school and didn't really use plants, but i really want to set up a simple eco-friendly tank. Thank you for your tips. Would i need a heater for these fish at all? Thank you
Was there something wrong with the Super Glue Gel you used last year? Why the switch to a two step glue-and-spray if you don't mind my asking.
Where I live in Southern California there are times in the Summer where it gets to be 120F outside and there are time when I cannot run the AC due to the cost of electricity so the interior of the home will be very warm until I come home and run the AC. Will a bowl like this survive those sort of temperatures? Also Where do you find the freshwater shrimp? Last tank I had was a 10 gallon tank about 35 years ago and I had guppies, neon tetras, a sucker fish and several African dwarf frogs. Despite the local fish shop owner's claims the frogs did eat freeze dried shrimp no problem. I did feed the tank live brine shrimp fry about twice a month. Great build BTW.
You make it look so easy. My shrimp bowl, in comparison, looks rubbish lol
Hi MD, i'm on the fence about adding some shrimp to my small 28L tank but I am worried about them jumping/crawling out the tank. I have some plants in my tank where the leaves are above the water line, and a HOB filter. given most your tanks are open top, i was wondering what your experience is with them shrimp escaping?
does it matter if you have a bowl with narrow opening? Or would it create an issue? Also there's no surface agitation here so won't the thick bio film restrict the exchange of gases?
My ph is staying at 8. I've added a mixture of humic acid. Kelp powder and and endo and echo mycorrhiza as well as beneficial bacteria. Hopefully my plants make it. Started seeing yellowing of the viens hopefully, they get nutes and not die.
I think you could probably make or find a sort of canopy to block reflections from the ceiling.
I have a ph of 7 out the tap. I have issues growing stems but lotus/anubias/java fern grow just fine. Am I missing anything? Edit: when the stems grow they are long and stringy not dense.
Hi, would a betta fish with snails and shrimp be fine with a setup like this?
Thank you md!!! Does anyone recommend some “cold water” nano fish I could keep in a 6 gal ecosystem, no tech cube?
I remember Girl Talks Fish doing a video on cold water nano fish awhile back, but can't remember if any were suitable for a six gallon.
GRATITUDE 💥🐟🌾💥
U Genius!!!!!
How do you find out the ph of the water you are using? Do the test kits include that info as well? Love the content MD- big fan of your work!
yes, api master test kit.
Lol! Spaceman/diver MD😄💙🐟🐠🐡
I love fish
Question 🙋🏻♂️ is it possible to successfully keep Severum and Discuss together in a 120 gallon tank? If so, what is the best way to set things up?
Who needs a TV when you have that beautiful huge tank?
Haven't even watched it yet & the title was how I kept my bettas for 10 years. =p
They just had some pebble substrate, a soft, plastic plant, a resting rock & a peace lily at the top - to keep the bettas from jumping out & I didn't have to water the damned thing every week. They were fed alternating pellets & bloodworms every 2-4 days & they lived between 2-5 years.
