Dodge Chrysler really does make some weird decisions sometimes. From the PT cruiser to the Dodge Hellcat lineup, they do things out of the ordinary over the years. Even though the decisions are against the mold, I believe this is to their benefit. One car that always shocked me was the all wheel drive Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8 - an unsuspecting grocery getter with a hemi V8. We take it back to one of the past models to see where it really started to make it's stride in the industry and see if this truly is a great vehicle for the family car enthusiast. Thanks for watching and new uploads every Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday!

@@zohaibhussain2524 Yeah you can get an audi or a rangerover if you want your quarantine vehicle to break down as soon as possible.
Citroen 2cv and or Pontiac Aztec cuz ain’t nobody going near those.
My oldest brother had a 07 Jeep SRT8 with the 6.1 Hemi, it was an absolute beast! I remember he beat a 6th gen Camaro SS and the owner had a dumbfounded look on his face, a true sleeper suv
Kevin Jimenez really ?? I GAP those 6.1 hemi all day long with no hassle (bondstock here) 😳 now those 6.4 hemi are just about even with me ...
@@red38cash18 no you dont lmao
Jeep SRT8: a vehicle that can drag sti’s while carrying 6 friends and a trunk full of toilet paper.
Sam Justice deadass we smoked a challenger while carrying 5 people😂
@Blck Mach1 a 2v is any better? Lol
Not very impressive considering the sti is a 4 cylinder meant for rally driving not drag racing

Isaac D congrats you can read the brochure
When this generation of SRT Jeep came out I got the chance to drive one at the auto expo we have here. I was shocked for 2 reasons.
1. I was one of the few in line to drive it so got extra time in it.
2. It was shocking how good it drove for a big suv.
I've wanted one ever since. They have their issues but they have such a personality.
You know he's getting one of these when he has some kids 😂
if he does get kids
David, just gotta say, Ive been watching your car reviews since almost the beginning. I really enjoy them. Please keep it up as much as you can... Thank you
I’m trying my very best my dude. I appreciate that so much
i enjoy em more
Very cool SUV, I'd get a 2014+ to get the 8 speed 👌👌
That G8 Guy I got a 2012 and I agree because man got a 2014 and when where on the highway he always crushes me on a stretch
Oh shit you have a G8 👌🏾
I have an '07 Jeep SRT8 and a 2015 Jeep SRT both are tuned..and honestly my '07 SRT8 (5 speed) is quicker and has more of a raw muscle feel. However the only thing i like better about my '15 SRT (8 speed)is the interior. Its fast but its bigger..I would have to say the original body style on the 07 Jeep SRT8 is more aggressive, stands out, and overall the meanest looking out of both of em..
2014 are like 8-10k more then a 212
@@topofthebottom6954 100% agree
I got a 2012 and the first thing that I did was delete the MDS system, not just in the computer but the cam, lifters(hellcat lifters), and plugs for the modules that I got from MMX. After deleting the MDS I switched to 15/50 synthetic oil, the 0-40 recommended oil is for the MDS system which flows better but is way too thin for the bearings in the bottom end if you have a lead foot and see 6K rpm often. It's kind of weird because I'm getting better gas mileage now that I'm running in V8 mode all the time. One more thing, get ready to replace the rod bearings once you reach 100K, they are known to fail because they are Cheap(Cheena) bearings instead of high-performance ones like Clevite 77 or other name brands. Other than that and a few more minor issues, good vehicle.

Im a wk1 owner.....love it !
Love the jeep srt8 but love the styling of the wk1 more
Lambochaser All black wk1 srt8 is the way to go
Yeah wk1 looks a million times better imo
I’m glad I got a 2007 wk1 black SRT8 prefer the aggressive body style over the new one! Way more vicious!
Lambochaser same
@@yodaddy6340 how basic can you be to think a all black wk1 is that cool ?
The WK2 is awesome and all, but you need a solid review of a WK-1! They are solid workhorses
JaredEriksen wk1’s are the best. But people go for better interior/electronics. Smh
@@brokeboybrian7663 can't fix stupid
And yes I am biased because I own one
@@JaredEriksen yes people always go to gadgets all I need is bluetooth for music and sunroof dont care about nun else really
JaredEriksen agreed! I knew the wk2 interior and electronics are better. But the feeling of the wk1 can’t be beat
As a new owner of a wk2 srt I have to say I’m impressed. Coming from various other cars such as a Trailblazer SS, Pontiac G8 GT, IS300, SR20 240sx and others. This car is the complete package of luxury and speed. Plus mine actually gets very good mpgs. From CT to NJ I used a half of tank of gas. The truck in this video is my trucks twin minus the tinted tails. Black grill, intake, door badges and all.
I’m been waiting for this and we need a 06-10 charger srt8 review 👍
Needs to be a 08-10 because the world Is flooded with 05-07 the later models had all leather and heated cooled cup holders
I just want the sport trucks to make a comeback. Every company already has the engine for it. Just paint the bumpers and put brembo brakes on them and slap a badge on the side.
I love the boxier WK1 Grand Cherokee SRT8s from the late 2000s but that’s just my opinion. Still a badass ride
Yesss been loving these things more and more! So cool they’re on the quirky line with these and they do so well haha. Also been seeing a lot if Durango SRT’s too. Didn’t think I’d say this but V8 AWD SUV’s are BADASS lol.
lol
U sure? Suburbans qualify in that
SNFriedM I didn’t think they came in AWD?
I love grand Cherokee because of the way it looks, but also it just sounds great with the auto, the way it shifts fast and you hear that bit of redline. My favorite is the wk1/the boxy one
I love the SRT Cherokee. I don't care which generation they're all great.
I loved my 2008 SRT Grand Cherokee. I don’t miss the 8 mpg though
Hold up. Had to go change my pants after the exhaust notes from this beast.
I have a white 2013 srt8 with 95,000 miles on it & has no problems and yes it’s a boat but a fun boat to drive
Just bought a 13 w 44kmi I'm geeked
Absolutely love my SRT Jeep!! Excellent video brother. Thanks for the tribute!!! Cheers
To be honest i think the Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8 is underrated , to me had the best of worlds now i know the trackhawk is a totally different monster but think about it this was the trackhawk before the actual trackhawk , i just love the Jeep dodge collaborations it just looks so good and sounds so amazing 💯
I liked the first gen body better aesthetically (center exhaust, body kit, headlights) and also because you could tell it apart instantly. I still have to look closer to differentiate the new srt8s.
I’ve been waiting for this one. Great review bro!
Ugh, a couple years after this and it got a great 8 speed transmission and actually a really nice interior. They really got it right in recent years
It’s 2022 June 5th….I’ll be back to this video in a few years once Ive purchased one of these bad boys !!!! Mark my words
You get one yet?
Actually have the same model and year and yes I would highly recommend them.... best Vehicle I’ve had to date.....even though the newer ones have the 8 speed 🤦🏽♂️
I’ve just bought a 2011 jeep SRT8 because I like fun🚙💨
1:48 all of the tires facing the wrong way
Wow wtf is up with that
I've got an 08 Jeep SRT8 and 2019 Trackhawk..but in my opinion I like the 08 body style better
I have a 4.7 Cherokee and it is the most fun car I have ever driven. It’s unexpectedly quick and almost never breaks loose.
I'm really really considering one of these.
If you got fat pockets and paying premium gas is no problem, go for it! You wont regret it. Smiles per gallon baby!
Same..just waiting for the right price especially here.. 100k new but used is around 35 -50k depending on kms
Would love to see your take on the SUV that started the 'fast 4x4 craze', the Jeep 5.9 limited. Fastest SUV in the world for 1998 and unlike the SRT8s that followed, you could use the old 5.9 off road as well (smaller wheels that allow all terrain tyres, low range 4x4, solid axles, plenty of clearance). Sure they're not as fast, but the character is there!
I have one and love it, BUT maintenance cost is hiiigh!
i love these jeeps a friend of mine had a 06 cherokee with the 5.7 hemi he ran it open headers you could hear that thing from half a mile away and it was pretty quick too
You need to test a newer one with the 8 speed! I think the 2012s were 5 speed boxes not ZFs
The 5 speeds were even slower than the 6.1s
In 2014 the 8 speed came out. The v8 2012s have a 6 speed but it only utilizes 5 speeds.
Jesse Bergunder wrong, the 2012-2013 were 5 speeds. Not 6
Joel alejandro Carrera arreola WRONG they use the 65RFE it utilizes 5 gears as i said but there are 6 gears. I have a 2012 grand cherokee with the 5.7l when in drive you can shift left and right (-,+) and it shows the gear on the gauge cluster. IT GOES UP TO....... YOU GUESSED IT 6. Want a video i will make it.
Jesse Bergunder we’re talking about srt jeeps dumb dumb
“Its basically a box that has horsepower in it” lmao
When the kids are quarantined from school because of the coronavirus we binge watch that dude in blue!!
Honestly the first gen SRT jeep looked the best. It was smaller and the "boxy" look looked good.
One of very few SUV's that actually is just that...Sports Utility. Fulfills the needs of many types of people, and with little compromise (other than a thirst for fuel). They are an even better bargain in the used marketplace, and have a drivetrain that you can womp on, without fear of blowing it up, on a regular basis.
I love my wk1 srt8. Do a wk1 turbo review
I really enjoy the back stories and your take on vehicles
I've always loved the srt jeeps. The 1998 5.9 limited Grand Cherokee is what really got me into thr sleeper jeeps. It's pretty much the srt jeep of the 90's. The 5.9 limited and srt jeep are both fun pieces of machinery
I have a 2012 grand cherokee overland with the 5.7l hemi girl moves real well. Wanted an srt but damn they hold their value.
Wish I had one, have a 15’ Cherokee and a 12’ 392 challenger to compensate though.
you need to review a wk1 now
Awesome video the new Srt8 Jeeps are cool but I love my first gens haha
Good review man!
Wk2 is a nice vehicle. The wk1 is a raw aggressive experience. Add a built motor and turbo and hold on. Ask me how i know😉🍻
gtpfiero yes! My oldest bro had added a pro charger to his wk1 and it destroyed cars off the line!
Always loved them since 2006
I like hemis
I got one for my Mazda, I find the 5.7 to be underrated in modability
What Mazda?
@@joma4499 a rusty one from the 80s
Yeah they are just expensive to get hold of when compared to the ls platform
@@Sercumference depends on the junk yard honestly
My biggest gripe with the W2 SRT8 is that it looks so plain. The WK1 SRT8 is iconic and everyone (even if they're not into cars) knows it's not a regular Jeep
Sometimes, plain is good. Nowadays flashy means how can someone steal your shit
these are cool, but dem trackhawks doe. ooooof
Trackhawk price compared to these. Ugh
Love my 14, the 8 speed is a huge difference especially getting 18-20 mpg on the highway.
How's it doing? Considering a 2014.
A friend had one of these, got it impounded the first week for excessive speeding,it then spent too much time in the shop for warranty issues, got rid of it after that as it was clearly gonna be problematic.
How dare you disrespect the WK1 SRT8 like that!!!
That’s the old one tho.
You lack an 8-speed and unconnect touch 8.4”
Not everyone needs or can afford all that. 2012s are bang for buck right now..
I want an srt8 so bad, not just because of the performance. In my opinion the 12-13 srt looks way better In terms of looks than the 14+. I had an 11 2wd 5.7 that I modified(visually)and and competed in carshows along side my brother with his durango. In October of 23 a guy ran a red-light totaling it. I found a 2012 srt8 same color and same wheel and wheel color as my 2011. The 12-13 srt has everything I wanted to do to my 11 to give it the refined agressive look.
Bought mine brand new in 2012. It's a headache. When everything is working is a beast but you'll be punching the air most of the time
I have a 06 and I can say it shocked me when I first drove it. Crazy powerful lol
I enjoyed my 2016 a lot. Great driving cars, and very fun, but the engines are a crapshoot. Too many of them fail from the junk lifter design FCA uses in their lifters.
Brett Turner thats why you upgrade the cam, lifters, and springs
Joel alejandro Carrera arreola you shouldn’t have to spend $3-4,000 on an $80,000 car to make it reliable lol that’s ridiculous
@@Turndog375 this isnt the $80k option suv but I get you
@@mantooth5712 No I get that, but mine was so ultimately that's why I got rid of it.
I just picked up a 2015 jeep srt8 last month, best daily I’ve had yet
You should try and do a trailblazer SS
Vehicles like this are why I love Dodge/Chrysler/Jeep. Ridiculousness at it's core. I have a Grand Cherokee 5.9, which, while not fast by today's standards, was the fastest SUV in the world at it's launch and paved the way for the high performance luxury SUVs of today. But they really are a good all around vehicle. Fast. Can tow. Can haul people. AWD for bad weather. Etc
@ThatDudeinBlue you need to drive the wk1 before you start comparing the 2. All and all the first gen srt8 jeep is a better jeep and faster
Correct the 1st gen was better then the 2012-2013
WK1s are nice, but I wouldnt buy one. Ended up getting a 14 SRT Jeep fully loaded with all the creature comforts. From stock, launch and highway pulls, the WK2s are faster than the WK1s. Now for modding, the 6.1 handles boost way better than the 6.4 .
Love them. Best vehicle for the car guy with a family who doesn't want a wagon🤔
I have always wanted an srt8 jeep to make into a track car but they are not that cheap where I live. Ive driven one and I was amazed by it because of how fast and torquey they are
i wish there was more awd v8 cars
The newer models with the 8 speed are way more responsive hehehehe still a badass SUV though. 🔥
This is perfect for me I’m actually on the market for a new daily thanks for the review brother
Christopher England this ones for sale lol
Depending how much you drive, prepare to waste on gas! I drive around 15000 miles a year. I easily spend 300 a month on gas on my WK2 Jeep SRT with the 8 speed transmission. Gas where I'm at is around 3.50.
My wife had a 2012 Jeep GC SRT8. Going to the grocery store and dropped a lifter exploding the engine. YMMV.
I raced my 2012 STOCK SRT8 jeep against the new widebody hellcat charger and we were fender to fender i was impressed but the race got cut short. Me and him were fender to fender at 120mph at night and I sat up in my seat because I saw something In the road ahead I was like wtf is that and my heart sunk when I realized what it was. It was two black cars that had crashed into each other sitting sideways in each lane only two lanes with no lights or hazards on I slammed on the brakes and realized if I stay locked up I was gonna slam into one of the cars so I let off the brake and slalomed both cars and blew through the glass. The charger braked better than me and tucked in behind me and followed my line. Cars that were just driving normal behind us crashed into the black cars in the middle of the road. It was crazy. Ive street raced for 20yrs but never saw anything like that. Wish I had a go pro then. I was impressed because my jeep handled the moose test well. Great vehicle TRUST ME!! Lol sometimes you forget your in a big SUV it's that good.
Thanks for the video it was a relief to see something else besides dread. Your enthusiasm makes this awful more bearable. Thank you for your content and upload in these chaotic times. #keeponbeingapositiveinfluence.
correction, its faster than a lot of muscle cars.
Don't hate on the brushed aluminum, it's a massive leap from the fake wood.

Awesome Jeep they’re sick!
100% likes 0% dislikes. That's a correct rating!
I love the Jeeps and the SRT they look sweet and fast 💨
Been dying to see an SRT8 jeep on here 🔥🔥👏👏👏 ty bro
I had one of these a 2013. It got boring to me very quick. I got used to the power too fast and you really couldn’t do much without spending a ton. Plus it was killer on a gas as a daily and unreliable lol. The only vehicle I’ve ever brought and regretted. It did sound great though!
Its not unreliable at all how was yours?

2012-13 SRT8 is probably the best SRT Jeep they have made. 5 Speed is a little bit slow, but they look way better than the 14+ facelift and the WK IMO.
To each their own. I prefer my 14 WK2 with the 8 speed.
Never heard anyone say that hellcats weren't gonna sell
You should do a Ram SRT-10
Love my 06 WK1 . Cammed hemi. Break necks every day.
You have to do a 2014+ totally different animal.
If you’re serious about getting one of these please get a 14+ the 8speed is an absolute MUST.
Just bought a clean '13 44k mi for 30k ): But I'm still happy to slam the gas
i had a 2012 and now a 2019.. fantastic daily driver if u dont mind the mpg! the 8 speed is loads better
Beautiful, but the smoked taillights and chrome piece never looked cool, definitely a horrible car mod, the original big red taillights with the shiny chrome piece on the middle looked fantastic for both the Grand Cherokee and Durango, too bad it went away in 2014...
Love SRT8 and trackhawk! I always wanted one tbh
i love these jeeps. i drive a normal 05 grand cherokee and i always wanted an srt8
This is the Dad dream car
You need to do a review with the 8speed wk2. It’s a little faster
Exactly!
Those things are sweet and are the ultimate sleeper.
Heck ya, love the Srt8
If you are ever in the Pittsburgh area, I have a hennessey Supercharged SRT8 Jeep Grand Cherokee thats heavily modified if you are interested in doing a review. Let me know.
I would love to have one cuz it’s the family car while still being able to be fast and put money into it for more speed and ride
What are everyone's thoughts regarding a 2012 or a 2014+? Obviously the price difference is fairly significant (to me any ways). Is a 14+ really "worth" it? Is it actually faster? I'm really considering an SRT(8) but I really don't want to spend $35k (14+) for one with 100k miles. I like how much more modern the interior (tech) is in the 14+ and the gearbox seems to shift faster/rev match. Any opinions?
I've tuned a few of these and they are really fun after tuning.
You still tune these?
