What Happened to Black Hippy?
Вставка
- Опубліковано 9 бер 2021
- Sometimes, a group of MC’s will come through from the same camp and capture the hip-hop consumers’ imagination. Often brought about by their combined talent, the chemistry that they exhibit both in and away from the booth or the motto that they align under, these cliques give fans something to identify with that often becomes bigger than the group itself. As close to Californian all-star team as the modern industry has to offer, Black Hippy, made up of Kendrick Lamar, Schoolboy Q, Jay Rock and Ab-Soul is a crew that certainly lives up to that proud tradition. But in other ways, this group, made up of Top Dawg Entertainment’s leading artists, are only together in a spiritual sense.

Nah I think SZA has a coming soon like April/May soon. Now as for the rappers 😅 Reason been holding it down I guess
Zay has music for sure. When he will release is another story
Yea. It seems like rap groups are usually used to see who the most profitable artists are. So basically Kendrick/SZA. Is SZA still TDE? It’s like odd future in random interviews you’d hear about them working on albums produced by Tyler, and they just never happened. Sucks. It just seems like they’re focusing on SZA.
Closest thing we ever got to this was the Black Panther soundtrack
Eh
Good enough for me.

kendrick's success became bigger than any of them could have expected. Soulo was never the same after Alori passed, he's still one of the greatest to ever rap but his hunger and output significantly dropped after that tragic event. Q was killing it til blank face but I think he got sick of rap fans and the industry after that album's reception with it being more critically acclaimed but not selling like OXY did; then mac's passing seemed to have put him in a slump personally and artistically. but yea
They were more like a family of solo artists under the same label who used to collaborate often cuz everyone was constantly around one another more than a rap group which is why there hasn't been a public falling out yet unlike most rap groups. @@ramchimbalkar8405 waiting until they are able to tour. Hell it wouldn't surprise me if they all drop around the same time and do a TDE Tour as a whole
you are dealing with four legends. Kendrick just blew up first. I remember hearing Kendrick call into Sway to congratulate Schoolboy Q on the release of Oxymoron for the first time. Q was on in the morning and it was a moment man. I am just happy I was there for that bit of hip hop history. I'm happy Jay got his Grammy because even though he makes dope music unfortunately it seems like the commercial market is gelling with his sound except some sporadic tracks but like so many other talents that deserve to do numbers sometimes it doesn't hit the charts like it should. Ab Soul has a fantastic body of work and a hardcore cult following. All 4 of them are all over GTA V, the best selling video game of the decade and one still being supported to this day ("TO THIS DAY~!") as well as the massively successful black panther movie (RIP Chadwick Boseman)
I hope now that everyone has done numbers and cemented themselves in the culture maybe they can get over the whole ego/recognition aspect and come together on a collaboration album. Hell bring SZA, Isaiah and the rest of them too
Lol dude said the rest of them. I agree. It could change history
This is the only supergroup that has natural longevity. Other groups have tension behind the scenes (Black Hippy is lowkey....Did/do they have tensions behind the scenes?) All I know is that I'm always looking forward to a Black Hippy album

When Kendrick first announced MM&TBS and said that it was gonna be a double album, I thought that one disc “Mr. Morale” was gonna be just Kendrick and the other disc “The Big Steppers” was gonna be all of Black Hippy since kendrick was leaving them. I felt that would’ve been the perfect farewell from kendrick to tde. I was kinda disappointed when the album came out and I didn’t see any of their names on there. But I honestly feel like they should’ve dropped their compilation album back when they were still on the come up and had that hunger, same with the kendrick x j cole collab album.

They are all dope artists on their own and I’m always waiting on any tde album that comes out in the future. A black hippy album would be insane but probably not happening, but ab-soul specifically needs to do a collaboration album or mixtape with another rapper or producer/beat maker. He seems like one of the best rappers that just needs push/friendly competition to bring the best out of him.
The world needs a Kendrick Lamar album after last year and everything still going on.
TDE's activity on Instagram has been consistently different recently, if anyone else has noticed, and I don't think it's because SZA's just dropped or because it looks like Isaiah Rashad isn't too far off from dropping. I think when Dreamville did Revenge Of The Dreamers 3 it put the whole TDE camp on alert, possibly provoking the camp to either start working on some massive label project or to work out some kind of game plan to put them as a collective label back on the top of the game sometime in the near future. I have a feeling that they had some big ambitions for 2020 but that has been disturbed by the Pandemic (no touring, etc) and potentially the Election, so they opted to just kind of force a few artist to drop some random songs like Ab Soul's "Dangerookipawaa Freestyle" and Zaywop's "Why Worry", both songs I actually really like, but it just seemed like the management at the camp damn well knew they had been taking too long. But from all the activity I'm seeing from some of the artist in TDE, I am super hype none the less, even just seeing Soul post on his account is great to see, as well as the features he's been killing recently, I hope that man drops soon and gets the shine & recognition he really deserves, I still remain hopeful. Things are definitely lively over at the camp, and I gotta feeling they might finally take over again in 2021.
Black Hippie inspired my group Blvck Mvss 💯💯💯💯 Massachusetts stand up!
They were awesome together.
At this point, Black Hippy(Kendrick Lamar, Jay Rock, ScHoolBoy Q & Ab-Soul), Andre 3000, Jay Electronica & Legendary Verb(formerly of 2 Live Crew) all need to form a supergroup and to do a Dr.Dre & Alchemists produced collaboration album.
They all made it out of small studio in Carson where it started, lost the hunger. It was great watching them blow but sucks to know we’ll never see those days again back out here. Jay rock definitely lead the game back then
Geez this guy's voice is valium.
It’s such a disappointment that TDE is so inconsistent with their releases. Like there is 0 reason they should be starving the fans like this when you got Dreamville putting out group projects and solos. Griselda dropping every damn week basically.... TDE is still my favorite group but they have definitely lost their momentum and it’s sad.
But it gets old quickly right? Quality over quantity
But if you wait to long that can mess stuff up too.
Dreamville has twice as many artists as Black Hippy, and some of the Dreamville artists have been professionally doing music for a fraction of the time. It makes sense that they’re putting out music more frequently
School on Hot Ones was nice to watch
