I struggled a great deal, but once I got it, it was fairly simply. So when putting it back make sure the relatively long metal piece on the mount is down. Now putting the bulb assembly in you’re not supposed it have it perfectly horizontal in terms of the black plastic tabs. In fact they should be a bit rotated in the counter clock wise direction i.e. to the right when you’re facing the front of the car. Rotate counter clockwise like 30 degrees when inserting in and then rotate clockwise to lock.
Thank you! I couldn't get the actual headlight out, then I saw you use a screwdriver to pop it out. Also, my car's computer didn't tell me it went out, either! I have a 2012 Jetta SE.
Thank you very much for the video. I thought I'd give it a try and went ahead took the casing apart but when trying to pull the actual light bulb off, I was afraid it would break. Good tip using the screwdriver. Btw, I followed the rest of the instructions except for the beer, I'm a blue moon guy.....cheers!
Great help!!! My computer did not tell me that it was out either, a friend saw the low bean out on the driver side...thanks for your video help, Can't believer I did it myself! I have a 2011Diesel TDI Jetta
Same exact problem. Just got mine from the dealership and I had low beams and parking lights that wouldn’t work. And by the way this car is supposed to have a dash light that tells you if your lights aren’t working and mine didn’t go off either. Thanks for the vid. Very helpful
Thought I'd come back and leave some tips after changing mine: Getting the cover off (the kind without a clip) was really hard. Wouldn't turn. We table-saw drilled a slit into a small piece of wood to slip onto the cover. Used it to turn the cover and it came off. Watch what he does when he puts the light back in. Just follow his instructions. Rotate it a little clockwise then back the other direction to click in. I was able to look in through the headlight at the front to see how it lines up. Sprayed some silicone onto the cover, cleaned it up and put it back on. Don't touch the bulb on your new lightbulb.
Thanks for the video! Probably took me longer than it should have (about an hour lol) but I got it done with your help! Now it’s time for a beer myself!
About to roll down to the parts store for a set, the left one went out last night and I don't wanna get popped by the man. Should be fun doing the driver's side bulb in the parking lot at 25f degrees, good times.
Thanks man. Helped a ton! This was about a dozen curse word job. Just picked up the same car/color 2012. So far love it. 4th Jetta for me. **do not begin this project 15min before you need to leave for work….
Thanks for this. Hoping I can finally get it. I needed the screwdriver trick to get the old bulb out, but now I can’t get the piece back in the car. It’s so hard to find where it fits because you can’t look at it. You just have to feel your way in the right place. Seems like luck to me. And I’m not lucky today at all.
It's a pain, I had to remove bumper, grill, and headlights themselves. Then modify back of each of the headlight housings for quick repeat bulb replacement.. cut open with hacksaw blade.. good luck I can't even fit my hands back their.. thanks for the video, it helped alot..
I have a '13 TDI w/Nav and I frickin' hate changing these bulbs. Y'all are right - the H7's don't last very long. I've had a hard time upgrading to a different bulb because I don't want to replace them after a short time, either. And on the dashlight warning, mine comes on when all the lights are working but never when I actually blow one. It's weird. The light will go off after a restart - usually. Anyway, thanks for the visuals on this. No matter how many times I change 'em, nor remember EXACTLY how I took them out, I always end up forgetting. Thanks again, dude.
Question, I was trying to change my bulbs, and the right light is missing the black piece used to twist head light out. Don't know how it fell off (car is used), but do you know of a way to change the head light without the socket?
Bullshitkorner I have, actually, but with this buyback/repair thing going on, I'm not going to do much to it until I decide what to do. As far as I can tell, I'll make money selling it back to them. We'll see.
The Jetta headlights are obnoxious. I am trying to figure out hard to fix a drivers side heated seat that is not working. I think the wires under cushion need to be re-soldered. Stinks there aren't many videos out there on that topic.
On mine the previous light bulb changer cross threaded and forced the assembly in. That made it harder for me to get mine out! REALLY pay attention to the orientation maybe even get a mirror and take a picture BEFORE you remove it. Note at what position it is locked in tight and at what position it is at when it can come out. Thank you!

I replaced my p/side bulb (low beam) and it twisted out just like your video. Thanks man.
Nice freckles
Very helpful
I can't get this damn clip undone!
For the life of me I cannot get the bulb to lock back into the headlight assy. Can do it on passenger side but driver side, nope.
I feel your pain it’s not fun at all
@@BackCountryWrenching Took me like 20 minutes
on the diesels the computer will not tell you the bulbs are out until 2014 models. just the diesels the gas models will tell you but diesels will not.
actually they don't on the gas models. I own a 2012 jetta 2.5L and theres no light for that
thank you! cheers!
Your title is very misleading, it should say bulb replacement not headlight
Nope it really isn’t, if you can’t tell the difference between headlight and headlight assembly not my problem
Bullshitkorner lol ok dude
Take a flat head screwdriver and a hammer lay the screwdriver flush against the light bulb cover (make sure your tapping it where it says loose)tap 2 to 4 times the cover should come loose. The best way to break that pain in the ass Factory seal
TQ for sharing
+MJ Souriya good luck
I can't even get the plastic piece off that easily
Took me a lil while to get it but it finally popped off! Was a pain in the ass tho
good vid thx
You must be related to my mechanic!! 10 hours labor at $80 an hour plus $100 for 1 bulb and I'm sure he charged me for the beer to! And I drive away feeling like I was in prison with a sign hanging on the back of me that says free ass!! I was gonna somehow incorporate Mastercard in my comment but having a sore ass from getting bent over by my mechanic is not my idea of priceless!! All day to change one bulb, your either a Union mechanic or a government contractor!! Hehe just messing with ya so dont get your greasy mechanic panties in a wad!!
thanks buddy!😏
VOLKSWAGEN\AUDI 1K6953123D GENUINE OEM SOCKET I think this is the part i am missing.
thank you sir
VW got problems with headlights. Cheap OEM shit lights.
+KIevMan that they do especially using a 1156 bulb for the DRl which wasn't a smart move i upgraded those ones too with a LED light
My old Jetta used to let me know a light was out also but my newer one doesn't which is so fucking stupid, and I just got my from the dealer and within a couple months both lights went out one after another. And you can't see what you're doing cause the light area is too small
