Watch a full tutorial as a 2017 Volkswagen GLI Jetta MK7 will have a Kicker 12" Subwoofer and a Kicker mom channel Amp installed. We will be using the stock CD/Radio Stereo of which will be removed to allow access to speaker outputs in order to attach a line-out converter providing signal to the amplifier without use of an aftermarket radio.

What gauge speaker wire do you use to tap in to radio wiring harness?
Awesome! your help with my Rockville amp subwoofer made the job quicker and smoother than I imagined! Thank bro!!!!!
I'm thinking of buying one this weekend, how well does the sub work?
All that work for a 2 second bass test.... gud jub!
Copyright infringement is real
I mean you can’t really hear Bass like that through a phone lol
I mean he still has to adjust all the settings on the amp itself, he was more or less trying to make sure the subwoofer was being powered by the amp.
I can't believe I found this install. I have nearly the exact same set up, including the placement of the amp. I have to remove everything now because I'm selling the car to CarMax and they need it to be returned back to factory, otherwise they just remove everything and toss it.
You are a life saver! Very informative and got the job done right! Many thankyou's!
THANK YOU SO MUCH I threw 2 12s in my jetta n basically copied you step by step. MInes a 2013 though THANK YOU SO MUCH AGAIN THOUGH lol if anyone gets thrown off by the back of there head unit having 2 large red power wires and a brown ground just use the power wire right next to the brown ground FUCKING THANK YOU ONE MORE TIME!!! YOU THE REAL MVP
Hows the sound quality using the passive LOC? I want to do a similar Install and trying to see if the investment in an active one with a bass boost is worth the cost and hassle.
Great video, just wired mine in, awesome instructions!
Great video! Just did this installation with the help of this video on 13’ Gli. However I had two red/yellow wires but I used the one next to the ground and it worked.
so its the one thats closest to the ground wire? I didn't know only reason that I don't have it all hooked up
Can someone confirm that this is the right wire?
Do you have the fender sound system? Ive tried tapping behind the stereo and no signal is coming out.
@@zabdieltapia6553 did u get it to work and how? Cause I have fender as well and it hasn’t worked for me yet
@@Yugoslanik I also have fender and wanting to do this any updates ?
Thankz got my lilttle cousin ride bumbing
This video was very helpful! I have the exact same model Jetta.. Really wish there was rear speakers to make it easier to connect the LOC though..
What do you mean you have no rear speakers ? Do mean no actual rear speakers or no rear speaker outs from head unit ? I had an amp installed in my 2017 Jetta and now have no fading option from head unit where I did before the aftermarket amp install.
Just a tip to anyone working on a Volkswagen. These cars are notorious for bass roll off. I would purchase a good LOC like the audio control LC2i
where can I find this? would you be able to send me a link with that? Or even possibly a link to a good wiring kit too? I will be installing 2 kicker comp 10 inch speakers and a kicker 1000 amp. I believe the wattage for the speakers will be around 1200.
What's bass roll off?
What's bass roll off
@@bakachelera the stock head unit starts ramping down bass as volume gets higher to prevent damaging the shitty stock speakers. When you hook up your LOC to the speaker wires and run that to your amp you are getting robbed of low frequencies when you crank it.
Thank you. I've been wondering this. I assumed they did roll it off. Il invest in the lc2
Video is very helpful thank you. 👍
Thanks for sharing!
Gonna try your method sir
On the gromit would it of been better to drill a hole instead if making a slit in the rubber. That way it would be a tighter fit. Just an observation
All up to the install and their preference.
Ya I would have used a step bit a d cyliconed the other hole. Also don't like to just tuck any wires. Rather zip tie, use factory wire covers, or tuck under the carpet. That's just being lazy
love it. that jetta is lovley
Great video, very helpful! Also, twenty one pilots for the win! :)
While I very much appreciate your informative video. Is there a way to upgrade the door speakers and include an amplifier in the glove box?
I definitely would adhere to your suggestion
Never use the factory harness wires use a aftermarket harness to do it just in case you want to revert
Great video! I had a question. Did you have to strip the wire for the speakers or can you tap into them
Can I just tap the red + 12v from the radio as remote wire? Since my speaker to RCA dont have remote wire. My radio is RCD510. Thanks for your help.
Hey can you show the step on what you did with the audio wires i have the same vehicle
How did you figure it out ?
I completely wired everything but the radio, I have the oem radio for my Jetta but the wire colors are different so I'm kind of stuck, might have to bring it to a shop unless you can help.
Is it possible to cut a wire and add a switch so I can turn the sub on and off? I am not an expert in electrics and would like to inquire
thank you
can i just use the fender subwoofer speaker wires for my line out converter? 2013 vw jetta tdi
Where is the factory amp in 2012 volkswagen jetta located? Ive searched EVERYWHERE online and there is no info. I dont want to randomly start tearing my car apart just to find it.
Finally, someone that stays on point with no personal bull shit opinions. I have a '12 Jetta and need to put my amp/s-woof in pretty much exactly like you have. I have to go out and get the wiring and a few things for my P3 to terrorize the Jetta but that will happen soon. Great video. Only need to watch it once because you didn't bull shit....lol TY
Where did you connect the remote turn on wire?
How is the sound quality of this install? Am looking to do the same of my mk6 2014 Jetta tdi
Can i tap the front speaker wires for adding LOC? Here i see u tapping the rear speaker wires. Any difference is there?
Thanks
You can if you want just habit probably I did one in my Corolla and just tapped into the rear speaker didint even have to run the speaker wire to the stereo
which fuse under the hood is the radio fuse? What is the volts and color?
are those wires from the factory head unit full signal or are they bass blocked from the factory? that would hurt the bass if the head unit is not putting out a full signal of sound. Looking to do that with my fender system in my jetta. Single 12
Great video i got almost the same model! If i want to put some axtra speakers in the back do i need an other rca set goin to the radio for the extra amplifier?
Great video - made this very easy! One question - is there any risk of drilling into the gas tank grounding the amp in the trunk?
Just to be safe I would try not to lol
Yes 🙄
is there a video showing how to get through the fire wall on a standard car?
I was struggling with this too and I had figured myself.
You have to remove the battery (keep it connected somehow or you gonna lose programming)! And then remove the black fiber behind it, you'll see a rubber thingy where the wires go. Punch your cable trough it and you're all set.
can this work on my 2010 passat
Why didnt you tap into the rear speakers save a lot of cable and hassle
Where did you stick the sub? I am looking to install a 12" sub in my 2016 Jetta but I don't want to sacrifice much trunk space.
is it okay to use a cigarette lighter plug into the 12v in the back? the plug has a fuse. i wasnt sure if the battery will be constantly drained when the cars off. some cars shut off all power and others keep pulling power. i have a 2014 vw sportwagen
The video was good but your ground was not very effective, next time take the screw on the backseat To do it,ans clean the body before To make sure that there is no paint or something else
Did you lose the ability to fade the speakers from front to rear ? I had an amp put in my 2017 Jetta and I now have no fade option from the head unit.
Not at all, we are just robbing the signal for the bass amp. The factory audio system will remain unchanged. Sounds like a wiring issue to me.
Arguable the hardest part of the install, which is the wiring on the stereo, you speed right through and don’t show which cables are the pos/neg.
Pac makes a plug and play T harness, no guesswork involved: amzn.to/41LNNnd
Is the electric wire already grounded from battery to alternator. I did not hear you mention
So i tapped in to the back speakers on a 21 jetta r line and got it to work just when i turn off the car it does the bop
I did this exact set up.. except my remote trun on wore is constantly providing power to the amp so it never turns off! Please help!!!
Take the radio fuse on the fuse box direct in the car
I'm having same issue ..my double din stereo stays on..I tried tapping in through the cigarette lighter but it doesn't seem to hold memory
Which fuse is radio fuse?
I have a 2012 Jetta, and in my dash there is a power output , it’s an old iPhone 4 charger thing that’s connected in the dash, would I be able to run my remote turn on wire to that ? Instead of connecting it to the 12v cigarette lighter output ? I’m quite the noob to all this and would appreciate the help
I'm not sure if that turns off when the car turns off if it does sure as long as you do it properly but this video is a very good representation of how to do it
I've got a Jetta with a RCD 340 which isn't as great as the MIB 2 in terms of sound processing
The current setup is the RCD340 With the stock 4 speaker 4 tweeters setup
Now if I wanna upgrade my sound without changing the headunit what would you suggest?
Should I change the speakers out for a higher output speaker and tweeter and call it a day or add an amp as well because with the stock speakers and the RCD the sound tends to distort after about 50% so do you think maybe an underseat sub+amp would help out with that ?
Wondering do I need that converter to plug the rca cables into or can I just plug them into my radio? Was hoping to not have to cut into wires
What is the point of using a CCA wire? Just to make it thicker? This is a power wire, not a signal wire.
OFC > CCA wire. It's worth spending the money for OFC (Oxygen-free copper) wire can handle significantly more current than the cheaper CCA wire, hence why it's more expensive.
Don't you could have used just the back speakers to hook on ?
If you have the factory amp in your car can you still hook up a seperate amp and subwoofer this way without it effecting anything?
Yes
Hello, can you please share the link that you got the wiring diagram from? I can’t find it anywhere. Thank you!
Walmart
For the people who I’ve the double din non touch screen and smaller screen for low base models it’s tt15 bit to take radio tt20 is to big
What are the real name for the connectors that you said feed off the wire with out having to cut them
T-Taps
HELP HELP, ok very short story. I tried getting signal to my amp through rear speakers( head unit) no signal, just a very silent hissy noise. then I tried the front SOCKETS (head unit) bam it worked, got a full signal but the problem is that I can't turn the volume down on the speakers that are connected to amp, it's like set to one volume. Please help what else I can do?? Is my amp faulty?? if it is then how come I only get signal from front speakers sockets and not the rear?? also why the volume doesn't go down when I turn the volume down on my head unit. Am I doing something crazy here?? what is going on? I've got the same line out convertor as yours and my amp is Pioneer a5702
The amp is powered on and remote turn on works perfectly but my issue is the volume that coming out of amp speaker doesn't change, the only way I can do is to just change the gain manually which it's nonsense. I just want to be able to turn the volume up and down from the head unit like the rest of the speakers but it doesn't seems to work.
Did u have any issues with the remote wire not working on your scouch box ? And how did u make it all fit where did u tuck the RCA box at ?
My question is. I have a vw Jetta 2015 and my question is what are the wires that I need to install and a amplifier 1200 and a subwoofer ?
Hi. How much does it cost to replace the factory 2017 Jetta Wolfsburg edition stereo ? Thank you.
Hi what is the cost of the amp and harness please , i have a 2019 Jetta
Do you know if the rear speaker wire colors are the same in a 2014 VW Passat TDI? Thanks!
I need the wiring diagram pleas 2012 jetta tdi I had them working but it was a bad connection and it got loose and now it wont work at all
What do i need for my 2015 volkswagen jetta with fender to install my amp
How did you get the positive nut off ? When I tried it dug into the terminal and now it just spins
You need to hold the square side with a wrench. Also the stud is "staked" as to prevent the nut from coming off. That's why it's difficult to remove completely.
So I tried this & I don’t really want to put the amp onto my speakers in the doors just for the subs actually & hooked my yellow which would be positive on the converter & then hooked black ground to the brown ground wire on back of stock head unit and ran the blue back to my amp & still nothing is turning on at all I’m lost… any help would be greatly appreciated
would this be same for passat? 2016
I have a 2013 vw jetta is it that same wiring because my colors are different
Hey yo I have the 2013 Passat mi amp turns on but there isn’t no sound to the subs from the amp everything is brand new to amp turns on and off like it’s suppose to just not getting subs to do anything have any answers for mi
Great video. Do these line out coverters provide a good clean signal if compared to an aftermarket set up?
you get what you pay for, so the nicer modules yes, especially if you go full DSP. Look into the AudioControl Brand as they have good options for quality sound processors and line out converters.
an aftermarket setup almost always works better because with a decent unit the rca signal will not destort...but with aftermarket headunits you need some adaptors for steeringwheel controls etc, so that means extra cost...but if you do not mind not cranking your radio to max volume a high low adaptor works great also...
Will that work for a 2011 volkswagen cc
My sub wont turn on when I turn the volume boast half it will shut off idk why
Where did you get the wiring diagram for the head unit? I’m trying to put a lci2 on my 17 gli with the fender audio and nav head unit mib2
How do you run through the firewall on a stick shift? The clutch master fills that hole...
Robber grommet with chassis harness to the up and left punch a hole through with screwdriver
can i use the piggyback things for the speaker wires too?
My car the bass is gone when connected to Bluetooth or aux but radio is fine
I have a question for you, maybe you can help or you can send me a link to show me step by step on how to do it. So, I have a VW Jetta 2014, with Fender sound system and as you know with Fender sound system it automatically comes with Amp which is located underneath driver seat. So my question is, will I be able to add 2 extra speakers to the current ones, other word I would like to add extra speakers to the existing speakers without replacing any. If so, how to add another amp to the current amp? or how to remove the current amp and install a more powerful amp?? I hope it does make sense. I would really appreciate your guidance.
@What it is What it was Thanks
I have the fender sound system and tapping behind the stereo didn't work.
Fender system has an amp that you have to tap Into. I saw a video concerning this. I believe it was posted by CAF channel.
I followed exactly what you did. I have power and audio but when I turn the volume to a little past halfway it causes my amp to cut off for a few seconds as if the wiring is backwards.could the line out converter being bad cause this?
I am having that issue with my passat 2018. 😞
@@alejandrotosti7932 I hooked up the same system in my honda civic and it did fine. I think the Jetta was just not capable of producing a good enough ground
Would this be the same install, for a 2018 VW passat?
There are some videos on here for the b7 passat, which is the model before yours. its relatively the same i believe. i could be wrong
How did you mount the amp to the back of the seat? I have a 2015 Passat, the seat back feels a little flimsy.
What’s the benefit of using the LC2i vs something like the kisloc?
LC2i has signal correction where others don't. Just depends what you want out of your system. Often times VW factory radio's have pretty severe bass rolloff at higher volumes to protect the factory speakers, and the LC2i corrects that.
@@ProvoBeastAudio What’s the difference in installation process? And what would you recommend for running the SKAR SDR-1X12D2 and SKAR RP-800.1D Amplifier along with RCD 330 Headunit? I’ve been only been suggested Kicker kisloc. Just looking for a recommendation
How similar is this to installing the RCA with passat 2016? My head unit does come with apple car play
Yes, similar technique.
Did this mess up your parking assist, camera and sensors? That's my only fear?
Nope, all we did was rob signal from the speaker wiring to provide signal to the amplifier.
Is there any benefit to tapping in behind the radio vs tapping in the rear speakers?
Yes, the radio both speakers are there, the speakers for these cars are in the doors which means taking both side door panels off and a lot more wiring. There are no speakers in the back window
How did you put the radio back in? I got the same line output converter and now it's in the way, I can't push my radio all the way in anymore..
I mounted mine in the trunk not sure if theres a reason he mounted his behind the radio
Was hoping you may see this...but I just installed the line out convertor (same one as in the video) but even with my car shut off the convertor is still powered and my amp is remaining on. 2017 Jetta. Is there a fix?
did you ever find a fix to this? im having this issue
Crazy question, Is there a part number on that rubber grommet. I punched mine out and lost it. Thanks
me too lol. I think it just drops in the matting at the firewall
I know for some cars hooking up the amp to the car battery will drain the battery even when the car is off. Would that be the case for a jetta? Im debating on just using a separate car battery.
If the amplifier isn't installed correctly, yes it could cause a drain. Correctly installing the amp will not have any draw when the vehicle is off.
@@ProvoBeastAudio appreciate the quick response. So, would opting to use a cigarette lighter adapter plug drain the battery? I know those adapters have fuses in them. Im just trying to avoid buying an in line fuse and going through the fire wall.
Hello! Do you know if the speaker wires will be the same for 2013 Passat??
Pinout will be the same, colors may be very similar yes. Generally browns are negative wires.
My question is about the sound. I've not used a Line-Out converter and have always used aftermarket heads with dedicated rca's which isolate the low range signal. It's my understanding that tapping into the rear speaker wires you're going to get the high mid and lows going to your amplifier. I would like to be able to isolate the lows so my subs are just pushing bass and not high and mid-range sound. Is this possible?
Yes, most amps are equipped with crossover adjustments, so you can set the low pass filter to about 80 hertz.
Why not just tap into the speaker wire in the rear of the car instead of up front?
There are no speakers in the rear deck, so this would require us to tear apart both b pillar covers. It was a whole lot easier just to pop the radio out.
@@ProvoBeastAudio do you by chance have a fix or idea for the power to the amp staying on even after car turn off.
My 2016 Jetta doesn't have the green part with green speaker wires on the back of Head unit. Do you know which wires would be for the left side in this case?
Green with grey is positive and grey with white I belive was negative if that helps
My LOC doesn't have the Remote Turn-On feature so I'm going to run it through the cigarette lighter. Could you please confirm that it is the BLACK wire that I want to connect my RTO wire to? (This detail was not mentioned in the earlier video.) Thanks.
Where did you end up ring that remote wire??
i have one sub connected in my 2012 jetta and lately its been having issues where itll turn off while im stopped at a light or something but itll turn right back on. someone told me it could be the sub is too much for the battery i have. i know its a diehard brand one, but is there a specific battery i should get thats maybe more apt to handle the system?
Check your wiring and make sure if your remote is to a fuse in your fuse box it's one that's on as long as the ignition is on
Isn't there a factory amp under the driver's seat? Wouldn't it be easier to run to that instead of behind the head unit? (I'm asking because I'm doing research for a friend's car...looking into replacing the factory amp)
All depends if you have the amplified system or not. If you do, that certainly would be a good place to grab signal, sure.
What should the wire colors be if we tap into the amp cause they are not the same as the ones from the video I have a 2016 gli wit the fender audio system
Why are some of the speakers not working after correct install??
Check the splices you did. One is bad
What color is remote wire for 2012 vw jetta and what color is accessory wire?
I've heard conflicting stories about my 2016 Jetta, is it the front or rear speakers you hook the loc to for the best bass?
I have a 2015 jetta and just ran my speaker wire the same way the video did
Where do I work the remote wire to on the line out converter
It does not need to be connected.
Need help with a 2013 Jetta GLI don't know which red/yellow wire to use
My amp gets power perfectly fine. I just cant get any sound from my sub. I hooked up my system to another car and it worked fine its just my car
Did set up as shown in the video everything is getting power that it needs.. except the sub is not working amp is powered on the right way and everything the only thing not working is the sub itself any ideas?
Cody Hunter if you followed everything in the video, check your power and ground wires from your amp to your sub. I just did this earlier, didn’t use too much of the video, but from past experiences that could be it.
@@oneguyonegame371 checked all the wires they're all getting sufficient power and being grounded properly I'm just gonna go through it completely tomorrow and basically restart everything and make sure it's all 100% good hopefully it works... Thanks for the reply though!
