The album that finally turned me on to Knocked Loose

  • Ask me a few years ago if I'd be into Knocked Loose's music, I'd say probably not. Probably would've been too deep in my ERRA phase at that point. Which, to be fair, was awesome, and I'd give up a lot to re-experience ERRA for the first time. Jesse's vocals are amazing, the drumming is insane, and I was mostly kicking myself for not having listened to them before the self-titled came out. Man, 2021 really was the time of discovery for me. Did you know I wasn't really into Whitechapel until that same year?
Anyway, You Won't Go Before You're Supposed To is awesome.

I've been in love with them since the start..but this album..was freaking amazing. Sit&Mourn tore me up. This album ate my heart. It was fabulous. Your description is on point..

I love it when you give a quick overview of the structure of the album and what each song does for the journey start to finish. Having an outline, especially for an album like this makes it more digestible for me. Definitely gonna give this one another spin.

Credit the band for having an album that was easy to outline tbf

For sure, and you recognized that, distilled it into an easy to follow explanation that gets me excited to listen and easier to process when I do. That's exactly what I want from a review video. This is the kind of channel I've been looking for to cover modern metal I'm glad I found your stuff 👍

Blown away by the quality of your work here. That sub 1k sub number is a travesty. Well spoken, concise work and I really loved that album overview of what each song is bringing to the table. Subbed.

You didn't talk about him enough, I think his drumming keeps their tracks fresh. He kept changing the drum pattern every freaking minute in Blinding Faith, it's never boring.

Glad you popped into my feed with this video. Incredibly well written and spoken, especially for how (relatively) small of a channel you are -- the way you conveyed and described certain components helped solidify my own understanding of *why* I like certain components of this album. Admittedly, I was incredibly amped for this album but was moderately indifferent the first time I listened to it -- but even now I have constantly been going back to it, and it's currently my #1 album of the year. Your direction and communication are very well done, and I hope you grow in popularity as a creator!

I feel you on Slaughterhouse 2. I'm not big on either but it seems like Bryan was over the moon about having him again so happiness was achieved for someone nontheless.

I love this album. I was in the same camp as a lot of others until A Different Shade of Blue. That album brought me onboard, and the follow up EPs were really interesting because you could see the slow evolution into this album, and they really cooked here.

I was really impressed by the new KL album, too! It’s a tie between that one and the two newest albums from the war metal (yes, that is a real metal subgenre; look it up sometime!) bands Antichrist Siege Machine and Primitive Warfare for the heaviest album of the year so far.

Excellent essay and argument for why this album is special! Weirdly this feels like the drop A metalcore album that I wished bands would make in the 2000s that no one did.

Absolutely loving this record. It’s my favourite album of 2024 so far, and I doubt anything will beat it. I’m seeing this band live in August headlining for Slipknot, and I hope they play this record front to back along with Deep In The Willow + Everything Is Quiet Now. Here’s my ranking of every track on this record…
    10 - Moss Covers All
    9 - Take Me Home
    8 - Slaughterhouse II
    7 - Piece By Piece
    6 - Thirst
    5 - Sit & Mourn
4 - The Calm That Keeps You Awake
    3 - Suffocate
    2 - Don’t Reach For Me
    1 - Blinding Faith

    1. Blistering Thesis Statement
    2. My favorite groove and song on the record
    3. Excellent collab and that Reggaeton breakdown…
    4. Slightly more traditional two chorus ass kicker
    5. 46 seconds of what the fuck did I just listen to?
    6. Song that slows things down, but amps up the terror
    7. Another good collab with a more melodic structure
    8. Creepy drums and a beat switch on the breakdown
    9. Blinding Faith
    10. A dope example of what happens when hard-core brained musicians make something a little more melodramatic

Somehow you found your way onto my recommended, and I'm happy for it. This video was a great overview of my favorite album this year. I love your style and the sense of humor throughout kept me engaged. Totally agree on the Chris feature btw. It's a great track, but much like you said, his style doesn't fit *as much*. Subbed to ya, and I'm looking forward to seeing more.

What's weird is that I was super hyped for this album, I listened to ATFL and really loved it, but honestly I only really liked the singles they put out ahead of the album release along with slaughterhouse 2. I dunno I guess I loved 4/10 songs from the album, and liked maybe 3/6 of the other songs so generally a positive score. I just felt like a few of the songs on the album were just too indistinguishable and as an experience it flowed a little weird. Still like the band and am excited for what they do next!

Nicko's first work with KL was on A Tear in the Fabric of Life, they talked about coming out of working on the EP wanting to do the same thing at the album level. To me this really makes You Won't Go Before You're Supposed To is the natural culmination of this phase of their sound. Can't wait to see what they do next.

The only song I dislike is Slaughterhouse 2. The song isn't bad, but it doesn't fit the flow or feel of the album imo. If you listen to the album from beginning to end without that song it feels much more cohesive.
