This video was a god send! I had to replace the window regulator and door handle at the same time. Just picked the parts up from O'Reilly's today and got home. Then turned your video on and followed it step by step. Thank you so much for making this. I've got the whole thing put back together now and it all works perfect!! Now I can go through the drive thru again without having to get out and walk up to the speaker and place my order of pay for my food lmao!
You're right the rivet was right there once the door panel was off and it had clearance to disconnect the 2 rods that are attached to the handle and lock using a needle nose pliers once the rivet was out and the handle assembly was loose.
Bahahah I snapped the plastic off the rivet, sled the old door handle forward from the bracket and off it goes. Then just put the new one back on over the old rivet. No need to drill it out and rivet to secure the new door handle. It’s secure enough🤣
+1 This video is absurdly complicated for the intended result. I did a fraction of the steps in the video to accomplish the repair. I don’t understand why the overkill. Blessings, Grace and Peace 😊
I've re-lubed the window motor gear and window actuator teeth, since you have the panel out and easy to access that area as well. The original factory lube is usually dirty and dried out, at the age these trucks are, now.
Why did you take apart the entire assembly? I pulled the door panel, drilled out the rivets and replaced the entire thing and the whole process to 5 minutes. There was no need for all that extra work lol
They charge book prices on labor so they need to justify the 2 hour labor cost. I was getting a little overwhelmed watching this video. Now that I've watched it and see how it goes together. I think I understand your comment better. Gonna give it a go in the morning.
That was painful... If you are changing the actuator maybe but I have changed several handles without removing the inner panel. I love 1A Auto and will continue to by my parts and watch your videos but this one was overkill.
Thank you for your order. If you would like to leave us a review on Google it would be greatly appreciated. Here is a link to our reviews section. Have a great day! goo.gl/i5JFNY
They've also used a good portion of this video footage in videos for other door parts like the door latch, and exterior door handle. The intro message and tool list are part that is shared footage.
Would I need to replace the whole handle and lock if the lock is just not moving? The doors still lock and unlock, just the manual thing that shows red when unlocked doesnt move on my drivers door. Just something disconnected?
It went great. At least I didn't have automatic locks and windows. Great video. Ps. Some of the plastic items were dry rotted. Other than that only took 45 minutes.
Great video since I had a broken inner door handle assembly and a rusted out window rail. I appreciated your detailed video especially how to get the regulator assembly rollers back into the window lift rail, couldn't figure out that one for the life of me. Any thoughts on what I should use to attach the window to the new lift rail. Stuff I took off the bottom of the window was like a rock, had to wire brush it off so the new rail would fit back on to the window bottom but wondering what I should use to secure the rail to the window, otherwise I'm sure the rail will eventuall pull off unless I do, thanks in advance and great video, luckilly I have manual crank window so wayyyyy less wireing other than the speaker!
Hello A1, great video .... I had one problem though.. after I replaced my new outside door handle and got everything put back together, my glass won't slide up and down correctly. we made sure it was on the track properly, all parts put back and our hopes of completing a perfect job was dashed when we tried to roll it up. Any ideas where went wrong?
+Mike Ortega Thanks for watching! It seems that the window track was affected when performing this repair. You will have to open up the door and make sure the window track is in the correct position. 1aauto.com
At 9:30, he says "Don't forget to engage the lock actuator." What does that mean and how is it done? I can't really see a thing of what he did based on the video.
Had my mechanic replace the inner door handle a year ago, it just broke again. Why do you think that happened? the original factory handle lasted 25 years!
+mavricZ71 Thanks for watching! You should be able to remove the rod that attaches to the actuator just like the other ones he does before hand! 1aauto.com
Yea definitely don’t do what these guys did. Just drove a rivet push the unit forward unhook the rods and replace. It takes longer to get the door panel off then it does to swap out the handle. This video should be removed as it is way overkill to remove the whole inside of the door assembly.
Do you sell the GM 15707298 Deflector Assembly, Front Side Door Water 1995-2000 GM If so, how much?. It says it's discontinued, and tape doesn't do it anymore.
This is the most complicated, and mostly unnecessary way to do this. You need to pull the door panel, drill the rivet, pull the door handle unit forward, pull out until you can see the link rods, then unclip link rods. In the past, I have found 1A Auto to have very informative videos. This one is extreme overkill. There is no reason to fully take off the door panel, wires, light, buttons & tweeter. This video should be removed.

You don't have to take the whole door assembly apart.. This is the professional method but it's a lot more involved than it has to be for the DIYer
i was about to say this, seems like a lot of extra work to get my old trucks door working....
You're right the rivet was right there once the door panel was off and it had clearance to disconnect the 2 rods that are attached to the handle and lock using a needle nose pliers once the rivet was out and the handle assembly was loose.
Although not necessary, this could be used as a jumping off point for more involved repairs and replacements.

Thank you. I can do this. I'm a 68 yr old woman. With your video won't be too hard for me

I was wondering about that. So much unnecessary work!
Are you serious? because I need to replace mines since handle broke. This video seems like a lot of work.

As a novice diyer…..what size rivet do you use to re-secure the door handle assembly to the door?
Curious...why did you not list the rivet gun in the tools ..but hammer and chisel and painters tape was mentioned?

What size rivet was that
We do not have this information available, however, you can use the original rivet when doing this repair. Thanks for the inquiry. +nclildogg2

Just drill it out and put a nut and bolt, easy peasy
how tf do you get the clip thing off the lock actuators

Is it same process if your truck has roll up windows?
Replacement part is also plastic, not pot metal like the original
Can I not put a new rivet in??
My driver's side lock barely wants to lock could that be to change the handle or actuator
I don't have power windows. Only crank windows. So how in the heck am I supposed to replace it?!
The minute he said 10mm socket I said oh hell nawww

What's the worst that can happen if I don't reinstall the vapor barrier? I tore it up removing it and then trashed it.
Nice video, but you need to fix your website
Everything is fine now, but the last time the page would not load properly, but now it's good.
Do you send parts to Europe ???
Not necessary to completely remove the door panel IMO, unless you’ve got bigger problems inside
Over kill to replace a handle but professionally executed video thanks
