Wow. I was not expecting that. The beginning in her middle voice sounds muffled and unclear but her top and bottoms are so unexpectedly resonant and clear. If she could only make that middle voice intelligible I would definitely make an effort to support her and see her.
Anita Rachvelishvilli is a better singer but nobody can sing "Stride la Vampa" like Dolora Zajick, not even Anita. It must be the 25 years she has been singing it or some special kind of magic working for Dolora only.
The first time I heard her I was in an hotel in NY and they were retransmiting it on TV. Thought it was utterly horrible, frankly. The stylistic choice of trembling her voice on the chel etc was all over the place. Not so much an interpretation like it obviously is here, but a necessity. Now, years later, and after hearing her I'm frankly sure she might have been sick that day.
Some of the best mezzo soprano have been appointed. Dolora Zajick with his massive and dark voice, and also his good performance in "registro acuto", seems to be more a good dramatic soprano.
Why do people always have to compare one singer to another? No one is going to sing like the great singers of the past. I heard her as Amneris in 1988; one of the most powerful voices I've ever heard live. In addition, great expression and fire. Every singer is unique in their own way and should be valued accordingly.
Sorry. No! Bad trill, wobbly singing and unclear phrasing, jumping between middle / chest voice and upper register. I am sure she is not very happy with this performance. Sorry.
