She was 15 when they married. That story really aches my heart. You can totally understand how I child like butterfly is easily impressed and carried away by the illusion of true love.
This was the first piece of Opera I listen to when I was six years old it changed my life forever and gave me my love for music. Music is truly the universal language that reaches ones sole.
I finally saw it live....life (eye rolls).....and I cried three times that performance. I think I held my breath throughout this performance with Huang Ying. Brava.
Agree.. easily the best rendition of this I've heard.. Great control without any over-singing and a magnificent sounding voice to boot. In fact, this is so good it's effectively ruined it for me when I listen to other sopranos' (and that includes Maria Callas) versions. They pale by comparison, so I can't really appreciate their efforts any more.
FYI: Ying Huang (Chinese: 黄英) is a Chinese operatic soprano. She first came to international attention when she sang the title role in Frédéric Mitterrand's 1995 film adaptation of Madama Butterfly and went on to an international career both in opera and on the concert stage.
@@fauspt Ying Huang is a best known opera singer and professor at Shanghai music conservatory. Proudly made in China, 100% pure Shanghai local. At the make of this movie, she was so so young and unknown, give credit to those directors. And you can find quite a few videos on youtube of her's. She did a great movie english version of Magic Flute at Met, can also be found on youtube.
I've said it before and will say it again regarding other opera singers : Mdme Huang Ying's voice was touched by God. The Best version I've ever heard. If I had hair it would be standing on end.
Of course a lyric coloratura soprano like Huang Ying had trouble with this spinto soprano role. But as a young singer fresh out of the Shanghai Conservatory she managed to find the right footing to sing with the right weight and color. Huang was also able to identify herself with the character, with a great respect for Butterfly's ideals of love, to look within herself and her heart to create one of the finest operatic portrayals I have ever seen
She has unique timbre, most recognizable voice among female artists, now is the best known sopranos... her voice is bright and shining lightly like the finest silk in full color...
This is the very best version, genuine and beautiful portrait of this tragic story, Ying's voice is gifted with unique angelic timbre... Great performance, Bravo!
Back when the A&E channel was still arts and entertainment my mom would turn it on for the morning opera songs they'd play and this was always my absolute favorite. It was one of few songs that would actually get my hyperactive butt to sit through the entire song mesmerized
I heard this aria being whistled while floating down a canyon on the Middle Snake River. There was a slight echo - it was absolutely sublime the soaring combination of hope and despair.
The best rendition of this I've ever heard. The timbre/quality of her voice is one of the key things that sets her version above others.. Her rendition of "Con onor muore" is also outstanding...
thank to the director who made the decision not to use famous actress, she visited the original house on the hill, standing on the same spot of the hilltop where Madame butterfly was watching and hoping to see the white ship...
Exquisite. I've just listened to this for the fifth time and I still have shivers running up and down my whole body. Just gorgeous! And such a beautiful Butterfly, too!
extreme sadness, yet Puccini made in a extremely beautiful music and singing... how ironic, and how much more tragic, give credit to the composer, he wrote into deepest field of unknow untouched world, like this, japanese art prostitute, he also wrote about the chinese princess that was ghosted by her ancestor who was forced into suicide... he celebrated the poor artist in Laboheme, Puccini changed the opera into ordinary and lowest society...
I think this was studio recorded (and certainly not sung a la fresco although the birds' chirping and creaking of the lantern suggest otherwise). Not that it matters to me at all: it sounds great. The voice cannot be emulated: it is a marvel.
I suspect that it was a studio production for video, rather than from an opera house. These productions allow far better voice and orchestra quality and balance. They can also utilise real pre-recorded exteriors, rather than painted backdrops. The poor visual quality of this video, makes me wonder if it was filmed from a cinema release.
Extraordinary. I have heard many sopranos sing this most beautiful Puccini aria. This is by far the best. She even looks the part.
So true! Far the best.
James Russell at this bit isn't Madame butterfly like 18? it still grosses me out that Pinkerton married a kid 😟
MegaSmilee1 Not to mention inpregnated her
Mary Ruth and left her soon after at that!
She was 15 when they married. That story really aches my heart. You can totally understand how I child like butterfly is easily impressed and carried away by the illusion of true love.
I can't hear a Puccini aria without emotion but this aria wrings the soul. What a genius.
Me, too.❤
I feel her pain. Simply sublime.
This was the first piece of Opera I listen to when I was six years old it changed my life forever and gave me my love for music. Music is truly the universal language that reaches ones sole.
A God-given voice --- and she's young and pretty, too. My favorite interpretation of this lovely aria.
what a wonderfull voice. Excellent singer!!!
I finally saw it live....life (eye rolls).....and I cried three times that performance. I think I held my breath throughout this performance with Huang Ying. Brava.
Best I've heard. It has just enough emotion without screeching. Most Sopranos have a hard time finding that balance.

Just beautiful. Thank you. Long live the beautiful butterfly.💝💝
Mt favorite aria sung by a gifted vocalist, Ms Ying. Perfect timbre, sonority and passion. It doesn't get any better than this.
I love this film...this is not clear, but the DVD is amazing...i closed curtains and cried :-P Puccini the GOAT!
I can't help coming back to this aria.....it's so beautifully sung!
Damn, not only talented, but Huang Ying is one of Asia's most beautiful woman.
This is beautiful. I love the setting and the simplicity. Just wish she had held that last note a second longer.
The best Butterfly in the best scenery ever. I believed every word and the whole performance!!!
Six years ago I commented that this is the best Butterfly ever. Still is. I would fly to Japan to hear her sign it in performance

And do not fly to Japan, most beautiful voices are at China,
Bravissimo! The communication of Huang Ying's performance of Puccini's aria eludes the mind to connect with, to move and to inspire the heart.
She does a great job of portraying the emotions of the music and lyrics. I love this version the best!
BRAVO! Bravo! I never get tired of this version.
Que gustazo estar escuchando tan hermosa música. Gracias
I've said it before and will say it again regarding other opera singers : Mdme Huang Ying's voice was touched by God.
The Best version I've ever heard. If I had hair it would be standing on end.
she has unique timbre of voice, we call it golden bird singing brightly, also has a kind of inlay of shining silk type of color,
One of the best interpretations of this aria I've heard. Magnificent voice.
Je pleure! Lorsque j'écoute Mme butterfly. Trop émouvant. ❤

@Pedro C I liked it too!
A voice gifted by God. Young and beautiful to boot. My favorite interpretation of this aria. Thanks for uploading.

Never ceases to raise goosebumps everywhere! Absolutely love this version.
Favorite aria. I sent this to my lovely daughter-in-law in Tokyo. One beautiful day I will see her and the lotus flower in her garden.
Back when the A&E channel was still arts and entertainment my mom would turn it on for the morning opera songs they'd play and this was always my absolute favorite. It was one of few songs that would actually get my hyperactive butt to sit through the entire song mesmerized
Mi commuovo ogni volta che ascolto Huang Ying in quest'aria.. Interpretazione meravigliosa.
Makes me cry every time.
😢 what a fabulous performance. It is so beautiful every time I hear it, it makes me cry.
Her look, at the end of that beautiful aria, is one of the most heartbreaking in all opera.
I heard this aria being whistled while floating down a canyon on the Middle Snake River. There was a slight echo - it was absolutely sublime the soaring combination of hope and despair.
Stupefacente bello… non riesce mai a svegliare il suo cuore!

Incredible. The mix of beautiful music with such a magnificent voice is one of life's greatest joys.
The best rendition of this I've ever heard. The timbre/quality of her voice is one of the key things that sets her version above others.. Her rendition of "Con onor muore" is also outstanding...
Oh, my God... it always get me chills... So amazing!! And the lady is great!!!
Absolutely brilliant, best rendition ever.
so natural and geniune,
I have watched the movie Huang Ying demonstrates a flawless performance.
thank to the director who made the decision not to use famous actress, she visited the original house on the hill, standing on the same spot of the hilltop where Madame butterfly was watching and hoping to see the white ship...
I can never get over this aria. Singing it has made me love opera more and more.
Tragic story but it's opera so what was I expecting. She is by far the best I have ever heard sing this
The sound and the beauty just "overtakes you," to a different dimension!
I don't understand the lyrics but this moves me so much. I've watched so many times. The music is beautiful
Ying Huang est parfaite, bouleversante, fantastique !
Ying Huang is perfect, upsetting, fantastic !
i could listen to her all day
The best version I ever hear
don't cry for me....i'm already dead.
No lloren por mi, ya estoy muerto.
-Barney
I came here looking for this haha.
The best rendition ever!! Beautiful balance between emotion and melody.
A magnificent voice and interpretation. thanks for up-loading.
BRAVISSIMA!!!!!!!! She is splendid.
De beste uitvoering. Uit het hart gezongen
Super
Brings tears to my eyes..
Me encanta porque refleja la verdadera Cio Cio San, una joven ingenua y dulce, humilde e ilusionada pero triste, es hermoso...
One of the best versions just beautiful
honest, clean genuine, they picked the right young singer...
"There's a line in Othello about a drinker: 'Now a sensible man, by and by a fool, and presently a beast.' That pretty well covers it."
Every time I watch this portrayal of Butterfly, she leaves me with tears in my eyes and I tell myself "This is Butterfly,"
The most beautiful Aria of all operas.
She's just.. WOW!!!
I love this song, It's beautiful. This lady sings it so well that I get tingles up my back.
i like the tone of her voice. it's nice that every soprano is different
Exquisite. I've just listened to this for the fifth time and I still have shivers running up and down my whole body. Just gorgeous! And such a beautiful Butterfly, too!
Brava. Molto Brava.
Questa soprano, Huang Ying, mi è piaciuta tanto.
"Don't cry for me, I'm already dead."
Beautiful singing ! Brava HUANG YING !
a very tender and empathetic rendition of this tender song. Lovely to listen to.
Tout simplement magnifique, d'une beauté absolue...
Niente di più...solo nera memoria...beata memoria
❤💙❤💙❤💋💙❤💙😪😘
I said it before and I'll say it again ---- her performance brings me to tears.

So stunning. Has to be the greatest weepies of all time
saddest beautiful aria, painful to hear, hopeless prayer, silly woman. She is genuine and perfect for the role...
I can relate to this kind of performance so much better than a 'belter'. Bravo.
Ah, si elle savait comment son mari reviendra ! J'en ai des frissons. Belle voix.
her touch is so light, and delicate
This was played at my mother's funeral. Amazing song, amazing singer
I agree with you 100% , Buzzmoogy .
She uses just enough emotion.
It's the prettiest Aria of them All.
Heavenly...so very emotional and beautiful..
I'm sober and can't hold back the tears. Gin would put me over the edge, but it'd be beautiful.
oh! she is so sweet! I love this Butterfly, she is wonderful!
Ying ist very great.

Я русский, Huang Ying - неповторима певица.
Bravo, Ying Huang!

Ohhh...such beauty.....thank you
J'adore cette version on voit que l'artiste exprime vraiment un sentiment humain plutôt que de faire de l'interprétation
