Dolora is a unique singer as well as human being. I have known her for 30 years and coached her and performed with her throughout that period. I respect her, as well as understand her and her prodigious talent. Those of you who choose to malign her cannot have not achieved one scintilla of success in this profession or you would not be saying those hideous things. It is really tacky to write such trash.
There is an interesting article written by Anne Midgette of the New York Times about the lack of really big voices in opera today, and why this is occurring. Ms. Midgette mentions Dolora Zajick as one of the exceptions, but that singers with really big voices also have big bodies, and are not considered quite as photogenic as slenderer singers. Also, the big voices to do not sound as "pretty" on recordings, so the big singers get left behind.
She belongs in the Eboli Hall of Fame! The only other singer I’ve heard in the theater who matches this level is Shirley Verrett. On records, I salute Stignani, but I never saw her onstage.
This is one of those voices that needs live in person encounter to make the full impression. It registers less well in recordings that don't fully realize its possibilities. She has chosen to stay with the mezzo repertoire to great effect, while Violetta Urmana has moved to the soprano repertoire.
Wow. virtoz is so right. What a stunning instrument and technique. This woman has absolutely no audible register change. . . . I've heard people complain about the use of her chest voice for her lower notes, but I think it is absolutely perfect.
As good as they come! Any opinion of "a better version" than Zajick's could only be explained, in my view at least, as simply a matter of personal taste.
@chaiter1 it would be interesting to hear her in soprano rep. violetta is doing fabulously (her verdi requiem is the best I've heard), but I can't say I approve of her singing odabella. that role is really high and best suited for a true dramatic coloratura soprano (aka no singer alive today that's for sure)
Watch her Amneris from Aida final scene from the Met. Dramatic and fiery. And her brilliant Azucena from Il Trovatore. She is anything but a boring singer.
BRAVA!!!!!! This is one hard aria to sing and fully command and Zajick completely delivered and executed.
I'm tempted to write that this is the greatest 'Don Fatale' I've ever heard.
I guess I just did......
I second that
I first heard Dolora on the DVD of this gala and I am in love. And she seems such a lovely modest person too. :)
I love Ms. Zajick! She has not onla great dramatic mezzo and excellent singer, she is a one of the best actress and has a great natural temperament!
I saw her in Il Travatore a few yeas back, and she was simply AMAZING. Such a rich voice.
Real dramatic mezzo! I adore this voice!
questa è la voce del soprano drammatico.
io la penso così.
Real dramatic mezzo erano :
La Barbieri,La Nicolai,La Kosseva etc....
magnificent voice and stage presence
Just brilliant. Love her.

Thomas Muraco a
She's one of the greatest mezzos to ever perform, so I would totally agree with you, Thomas.
Could not have said it better myself.
@thomas...would you say Dolora is a mezzo or soprano

Especially like the quiet middle section. Not only can she kill you with her voice, but she can also touch you with its vulnerability.

Oh, she sounds fabulous!!!
Sounds like she's saying somehow "oh you sopranos, I'm going THAT high over and over too"
Wonderful, wonderful...
Stunning,Bravissimo.
She has one of the biggest voices since cossotto..shes in the same class....
She stole my heart completly ❤️
Just amazing....
glorious!!!!!

❤❤❤😊😊😊❤❤❤
Now listen again at 01.30...
Holy shit!
People that di not like it: Its because they have no idea of what OPERA SINGING IS!!!
As good as they come!
Any opinion of "a better version" than Zajick's
could only be explained, in my view at least, as simply a matter of personal taste.
Try Dimitrova, Ponselle, Troyanos (better acting even though the voice is not as big), Barbieri, Simionato (early career), Stigiani.
@@pureffm😴
@@jeffreymiller4814 You don't like exciting singers and thrilling performances? WHo acted o Don Fatale better than La Troyanos?
Good f*cking lord, that Bb 3:27 at killed me!
@chaiter1

and the 00' and the 10's.....
Now THAT'S an attack!
Dinuial You mean at 01.30..? 🤣
TEM ALGUM BRASILEIRO AQUI?
for a mezzo, she has some extremely easy high notes
@vitroz ???
Simionato, Cossotto.
прекрасное исполнение отлично поет эту арию irina arkhipova
me likey mezzo chest voice!!!!
@MrSkylark1 I see.......
there is nothing to say...if it were not for Dolora the opera world would be pointless
@elainebmack
I think Anne Midgette is a hopeless "size queen."
And she’s right but I mean go off I guess
la voce la ha e quale,non sempre segue l'orchestra
I bet she has a larger voice than Joan Sutherland
chuandreanton ???
Much larger...
BIG (?) VOICES TODAY are merely "FORCED." LISTEN to KIRSTEN THORBERG
to HEAR a GENUINE SINGER.
Is it me? Or is her diction off?
It's you.
This must be the most boring singer ever captured on audio or video. Pointless to argue, though, with high notes / large voices queens
