thank you for sharing lora's wonderful greenhouse with us
that is my fantasy farming project - i just had to share this video!
The best informative fish farming video ever ... thanks Tim
I really like your videos. You do such a variety of things. And, you are so down to earth. Thanks for what you do.
Hi there 😀👍 really hope I get to visit your farm . Happy growing 💗
Thanks Tim, that's an amazing setup.
Lexington Food Fest Family is coming out to visit on March 26th. I hope we can get a tour.
Everyone should start one in their backyard
Wow! That's an amazing setup!
really enjoyed this
Tim is the coolest. I like all his shows
your sistem is amazing.
good job !
My fish management and aquaculture teacher said we wouldn't see aquaponics become popular in our lifetime! I've raised rainbow trout with very high growth rates and my herbs did great so cold and cool water fish can be done. You have the best growth rates I've seen so far and have a grasp on what your doing. If I would have known you where there I could have done a internship there instead of going to China which was a pain. China was a great place to learn aquaculture and aquaponics as they have fish/shrimp growing in the ponds with plants and herbs that have been bred to have hardy root systems. Even indoors as soon as the fish can take to eating commercial food they are raised in a perfectly balanced system till harvest. Most are carp which are a popular eating fish in most countries. Thousands of years of practice and breeding and all that information is unavailable to other countries. I was only their for four months and everyone had different methods. So much we could learn from them. I was most impressed by a greenhouse that used stacked pots with mirrors to get light to the lower levels. They used lights as too while taking turns cranking a generator to power them and the water pumps! This was a setup to feed two families and sell what the didn't preserve.
Thank you for this lovely video.
Best one so far !
this is the way to go
what does a system like this cost to startup? why the circular tanks instead of the rectangular tanks? is tilapia the most suitable or other species can also do the work?
Tim,
I would like your permission to use this video to promote aquaponics on GoFundMe. I am a retired American in the Dominican Republic and hope to start a project of this type and employ poor Dominicans and also provide food.
No problem....just refer to us as the source of the video....
Good luck with your endeavor!
Is it possible to visit this facility and have a 1-2 day tour here ?
Nice setup. Great video. You spoke about purging the fish before eating them. Can you tell me what this entails? Thanks so much.
Basically........let them poop for several days and cleanse their system while not feeding them....possum under the washtub deal...lol
+Tim Farmer thanks Tim. Makes sense. So easy and a great idea. First time I have heard of that.
Fantastic!! !!!!
wow amazing
Amazing.
You should've stole the bright red mater lol
what type of filtration system do you use? and does the filtration system alone keep the water qualities in check
I believe this system was from Nelson and Pade.
That’s cool
Nice
Shegun,
I need your permission to use your video for promoting aquaponis systems...It's very usefull for me!
Tim, do you think she would be willing to travel to assist me in setting up a system?
Give them a call.....not sure....they have a great operation though.
cool
curiosity: why are you feeding your fish commercially made food? why not duckweed and red wiggler worms?
Those are good, but eventually you need to bring in protein from outside the system since you're taking it out when you harvest. Theres no free lunch, but you can get close.
Michael Peacock
red wigglers can be harvested from compost bins and would be an outside source from the system. I can see using commercial fish feed to supplement from time to time. but generally speaking, bio-available protein from red wigglers harvested from a compost bin would be more naturopathic. the only issues with composting is running a multi-platform operation and being able to manage 2+ systems simultaneously...
Hi guys - is a little foul smell in an nft system normal or should I worry about my filtration?
how much is a "gazillion?"
Just a smidgen over a buzillion.
Thats the first time i am seeing people shook by left hand
Well, keep watching, you'll see me doing it a lot!! My right arm is paralyzed due to a motorcycle accident. Thanks for noticing!
Why was a Green house needed in Haiti since it is hot?
Because it's hot! Some plants will do well in high temps, but do equally well in temperatures more suited to many other plants. Keeping Tilapia under 80 degrees keeps them from spawning rampantly. Just move the breed stock to warmer waters for that purpose. I am just learning this stuff too, so I watch everything on youtube and balance out the info.
Bryan St.Martin ty. m also researching n learning too
Bug control is another reason.
Erm, the fish are killed by oxygen starvation? In Germany, and probably some other countries, this is actually illegal. Mainly because there are better ways....
Erm, we are not in Germany now, are we....
