The success of The Ice Guy and his Cool Female Colleague can be attributed to the fact that it was the only josei anime this season, and for that matter, the number of josei a year tend to be in the single digits. With little competition, it overperformed. But as someone who loves the show and thinks it deserves its high performance, I also attribute it to the chill atmosphere and low conflict. It's kind of like if Laid-Back Camp were an office romance, with the pretty art, low stakes, and easily resolved conflicts. Plus office romances have been in a boom since Wotakoi. (I kinda want an Our Teachers are Dating adaptation, but it would get the "censor bars everywhere" treatment, so maybe it's a good thing we don't have one...)

I don't think it's a surprise at all that Tenshi-sama is at the top. The anime nails down the charm of a moege, and moege has always been _very_ popular. If there isn't a kamige that year, you can bet a moege (likely Yuzusoft) is going to win the VN of the year in Japan, and NekoNyan is now pretty much the most consistent VN translation company built almost entirely on top of moege. So when a story comes along and distills that moege charm of laser-focus on fun banter and growing relationship between two characters... I don't think it's a surprise at all for it to be so popular, especially with how sparse this season has been. Plus, the final episode has some great moments, and cements its status as "moege, the anime," because it is _everything_ I go to moege for and it just really satisfied me when it's all said and done. I actually went and gotten the 5th volume because I just needed more of it man, while waiting for the new Yuzusoft game.
I use MAL for tracking both anime and manga. I like how the database links manga and anime adaptations together. Though I'm unfamiliar of any alternative site for tracking both anime and manga. As far as MAL's manga recommendations, I didn't find it that useful. 5 of the 20 you should read this list I was already reading. The other 15 were manga I had already heard about and knew enough about them to make a judgement that I'd probably wouldn't care for them. The Should be Anime also seemed like a weird category. I get what they were going for, but given that this list came out near the beginning of the spring 2023 anime schedule, it could have been a list of manga that were getting anime releases in 2023 if you wanted to read the manga before watching the 2023 anime.
I had no idea that Danmachi and Bungo were even airing. Bungo was so horribly boring from the get go that I'm always surprised it's still getting renewed
I thought Onimai was one of the best shows of the season. Although they used the set-up like isekais use their titles: to drum up interest then barely mention it again. If only it were a little worse and had more ecchi moments then you could say it was... servicable ;)
One has to wonder what is causing the lack of a Bocchi manga English license given that it's been an entire season since the anime aired. Bidding war between publishers? I mean, it's not like Kirara series almost ever go to anyone else than Yen Press but others could be interested in Bocchi due to its popularity
2319 manga entries and counting in MAL. Still quite a bit behind the 3705 anime entries I have. My only problem with MAL is that there are quite a few manga series that I'm reading that are either not on MAL or still stuck in pending purgatory.

I do use manga list
People who dropped onimai due to the pervy fanservice stuff missed out on a great experience. The Christmas episode was GORGEOUS.
Hey, good morning, everyone.
Does anyone know why Arkada has been uploading videos. Pardon my ignorance.
Onimai has absolutely no right being as good as it is. I really like how it portrays growing up, getting a second chance, and gender dysphoria.
Aww I was wondering why I hadn't seen new vids in a while
Hope your new studio is coming together well!!
Hope all is well with you as well Tristian!
Hey I was wondering if you could make a podcast (or an audio version of your videos) since I like your voice and performance in these videos and I think it would be a great idea to listen to anime news or recommendations while driving or going to the grocery store.
why don't you go over the reddit weekly rankings? The animecorner rankings are meh as always
9:30 I wonder what kinda "stigma" is he talking about, because i watched and voted for Onimai and is the best of the season
0:22 this is just a marketing strategy by bookwalker and barnes and noble they are the ones that pick the manga in this recommendation list it’s a way to push manga that they want to market and sell the most
E3 was always dead they just paraded around the corpse for an extra year or two for some weird reason....
Oh good, Bocchi gets more opportunities to make me look at myself in the mirror and then punch me in the face
Angel spoils me rotten has one of the most adorable girls. People vote their waifu high, that's all it is here.
People who have lived through to love ru and monster musume not even raising an eyebrow at onimai.
I use MAL For both anime and manga over 100 hours each and the Monger recommendations were fairly useful to make sure I didn’t miss anything I wanted to read
I use Mal to keep track of manga I have read and want to read
Yes, I read them. Every time. They are great. Keep doing them.
Great 👍🏻 video nice 👍🏻 hype!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thoughts on Griffith did nothing wrong?
yes i read those thank you very much lol
Never cared about E3 honestly
Will the angel next door get an English dub at all?
Preach!!! I know right.😂
Did somebody say “Bocchi?!”
Yeah, I do read this Arkada😁
Who's that Bochi-mon?
Yes Tristan, I did read it.
With Bocchi unexpectedly being so popular, maybe the impossible will happen and K-on will get the Death Devil spinoff metalheads and anime deserve.
