The only thing clearly better than Node about this album is the vocals, because it plays more to Marcus' strengths. The instrumentals are worse though. Half of the songs have very similar sounding guitar parts and a lot of the complexity is gone. It's not a bad listen and I'm sure it'll grow on me, but it feels a bit insipid. There's little of the variety and novelty of Node, little of the complexity and energy of Singularity, little of the rawness of Discoveries. Nic and Marcus sound great as ever, but the guitars are not interesting, and as a guitarist that sucks. Even the theme isn't as appealing. I'll take environmental issues, loneliness, and existential shit over "the man is watching us - fight the power!".
On the topic of lyrical content, only 'Citizen' is about fighting the power. Colourwave = Josh's depression 'Savage = Mankind needing to unite to survive 'Solar = Our apparent obsession with colonising Mars and mistreating the Earth Heartmachine = Marcus' relationship falling apart Intuition/Zero-One = Following your heart Fade = The death of Marcus' father Render = How this life is "just a ride" Veridian = The death of Josh's great-grandmother Paragon = A tribute to Tom Searle
It's been awhile where I literally enjoyed EVERY song on an album. The last album where I enjoyed the entire thing was August Burn Red's "Constellations." This album is pure gold!
You enter a different dimension when you listen to Northlane either when listening to the old albums with Adrian or now the new albums with Marcus #mindblowing
What is absolutelly amazing for me in this album is that I needed time. Time to adapt myself to new reality. At first I was like "Mesmer is more like popcore, not metalcore now" Now I believe that it's on of the albums that defines originality and passing the border of a genre so fluidly. I am amazed more and more while listening more to Mesmer. Changing directions - Northlane, you are not doing it good. You are doing it fucking brilliant. Thank you
Yeah but you have to realize that most of those Singularity-esque bands came out a year or two later (Singularity was released 2012 and by 2014-2016 plenty of copycats spawned, only very few captured the essence of it thought, but I agree, Node was decent, but Mesmer is a whole other beast. I love it, and honestly I think even less metalcore/progressive metalcore bands will manage to copycat this correctly, this is too different, but it'll be nice to see them try in a year or two.
Discoveries all sounded the same to me. Dispossession was the best but the rest were meh. Adrian's screams got old after the 4th song. For me it's Mesmer > Node > Singularity but Singularity is still brilliant in it's own right.
Discoveries, Transcending Dimensions, Comatose, Corruption, Exposure, I Shook Hands With Death. If you think those all sound the same you're mad. way more variety than Mesmer.
You can't be serious. I mean i like everything Northlane has ever done, but in mine, and most other people's opinions, Singularity has yet to be topped. It's just a work of art
It's about who does it better or in Northlane's case, who did it better. Singularity is still top. The sound they have pursued in this release is nothing new. This is a very safe release and there is nothing fresh here. That being said there are enjoyable parts to this album, but I don't think I can mention a single song that sounds like something I haven't heard before.
I feel like my life has been significantly improved by this album now. It's going to be a great weekend.
Brad Kadou I love your lyric video for "The Calling"
You're great!
Thanks so much man hahaha! Got such great feedback with that video. I would make so much more if I didn't get penalized by copyright. :(
You've become a citizen😏
This!!
I really hope everyone is understanding the message they spread through their music. We need this awakening, to live free, truly free, in peace.
What exactly entails to live "free"?
+Andrew Sutton be kind to anyone and everyone, do what the fuck makes you happy and don't give a shit what anyone else says about it. freedom.
because there's a lot of sketchy shit that goes on with a lot of shit most of us don't even know about or fail to admit is true. this is just a ride.
We need more bands like them.
We can only hope. Important words. Almost fell off my chair reading them.
1:46 God. Riffing, drumming, vocals. They do everything right
I guess you could say Northlane is savage for dropping the new album from outta nowhere! Kudos, lads.

it's the most epic promo video I've ever seen, seriously gives chills
that part really reminds me some stuff from Pink Floyd, and i loved it
1:46 that guitar riff is just so fuckin lit, gets me everytime I listen. fits so well with the melody. As everything you guys make, pure gold.
As an avid old Northlane guy, I can dig this song. Let's see how the rest is
adriaaaan :'(
It's worse than Node imo, but I'm liking this song.
Singularity is still their best album by a shitton, and I like Marcus too.
notstarboard definitely not worse than Node are you kidding? this shits on Node
The only thing clearly better than Node about this album is the vocals, because it plays more to Marcus' strengths. The instrumentals are worse though. Veridian = The death of Josh's great-grandmother
Paragon = A tribute to Tom Searle
It's been awhile where I literally enjoyed EVERY song on an album. The last album where I enjoyed the entire thing was August Burn Red's "Constellations." This album is pure gold!
Lovin his vocal style, kinda reminds me of classic Spencer Sotelo with a hint of Dan Tompkins, very nice stuff

IDK I've seen many bands write music like what singularity sounds like. this is original and has way more in depth vibes.
2:51 - 3:16 OMG Marcus
Sends chills every time. This song gives me a eargasm everytime I hear it! 🔥🔥🔥
It’s probably one of their best songs up there with quantum flux. So good ❤️
Going to be brutal live, so much bounce n groove

Live recording at Resurrection Fest BLOWS Studio version away. Lead guitar to loud in Main riff. Best Song On Album.
This song is beastly fantastic. Hope they play it live on the upcoming tour!
I really considered northlane's mesmer album to be one of the best releases of 2017 all together.
that intro sounds so dope
1:45
2:09
Thanks for adding all the lyrics to these songs.
Props to Marcus on this record, really well fitted in the instrumentals
Northlane is so great
Am I the only one who thinks 4:28 sounds like Batman screaming "Rachel!" in The Dark Knight?

Descrubi está banda en Enero de este año gracias a mi Tío y desde entonces no hay día que no los escuche 🖤
1:25 ''AND THREW THE DONUT TO EACHOTHER"
I stand behind tracks like these.
the drums are so low in the mix it almost makes me tear.
Rise uppppppppppp 😈
This song is everything the new Tesseract album should have been
This song is fucking S A V A G E
The intro gives off a nostalgic feeling of the Spirit Temple in Zelda's Ocarina of Time.
love it!
I can't choose a favorite song of this album, everything is great, i love enjoying music, you should too

Just found out about the new album! Hell yeahh! As usual, awesome stuff!

damn those gr00ves h1t hard
That intro tho fuuaaarrr
Nobody noticing that the chorus compliments the intro to Dream Awake?
Well...fuck yeah...like...fuck yeah
Discoveries > Singularity > Node > Mesmer
Discoveries all sounded the same to me. Dispossession was the best but the rest were meh. Adrian's screams got old after the 4th song.

Discoveries, Transcending Dimensions, Comatose, Corruption, Exposure, I Shook Hands With Death. If you think those all sound the same you're mad. way more variety than Mesmer.
Finally
Que signisficaria el arte en la portada del album?
Well done boys!!

the first 1:23 min reminds me a lot of tesseract dunno why
Massive tesseract vibes
Be(a)st song of the album!
This intro is the greatest fucking piece of music ever composed.
Hi , I know it’s been four years but I just wanted to remind you of this dumb fucking comment you made 🤘
Pargon is the best song on the album but this song render and Zero-One are my other favorites
Lot of Tesseract influence I see. Nice

CRUCIFY AND BURN ME!
Mesmer > Everything ever
Rafael Poubel real fuckin talk
You can't be serious. I mean i like everything Northlane has ever done, but in mine, and most other people's opinions, Singularity has yet to be topped. It's just a work of art
Its just opinion man :) personally i think singularity was their weakest album but hey thats just me, i still love it though
It's about who does it better or in Northlane's case, who did it better. Singularity is still top.

Nintendo NorthCube
this is what happens when Abrasumente goes wrong
Decimate Motion Graphics This has nothing to do with Abrasumente
THEY FAILED TO FREE THEIR MIND
No, they really free their mind, enjoy, this is a travel through a new experience, new music
Those demonic vocals though.
