You should have your business card posted on the walls of OBGYN offices, it gives parents a head start. There is a lot to learn. May your efforts be blessed; they are beneficial to many. And..your humor really helps me listen (rather than get frustrated to hear my mistakes out loud).

This morning my 4y daughter on the way to preschool: "mommy why do you look so happy?"
Me: "because I am so happy you and Paul (12weeks old) are with me."
The smile on her face was priceless. We didn't have the best start that morning (not listening nor respecting my privacy) but I really felt happy walking down the street . I am so greatful she asked. Smiling is the best.
    Thank you for your video.

It’s absolutely an issue a lot of adults have. When we grow up seeing parents argue or parents treat us like we’re always wrong to them, it lasts. They can call it tough love, but we know that it creates emotional issues that we go years without knowing how to handle. There is a way to teach our kids to listen and behave properly without losing our patience. I’m still working on it as well, but we can all do it. It takes conscious effort and being patient with ourselves as well. I often get angry at myself and then it comes out as frustration with my daughter.

Lately my 7 yr old daughter has been trying me. It’s obvious my words are garbage to her. So that is why I am here. Thank you for your videos. I have watched 4 so far and they have been so helpful. I will try these approaches with her. Thank you for the reminder that my job is to love her no matter what & even if. Good reminders: Love your children no matter what & even if. Say what you mean & mean what you say. Smile!
So, so, SO true: be an EXAMPLE to your children of what it means to listen & be respectful. Where else are they going to learn it?
Illuminating: Yelling is a parent trap. Oh my goodness, you're right!
Hilarious: "You're happy, right? Well, tell your face!" HAHAHA!
Thanks for 10 and a half minutes of entertainment & enlightenment, Dr. Paul! :)

I used to follow through, I used to discipline. Then his dad happened for another go round. The last go round. Narcissism can be very damaging. Working on fixing myself but it is so hard to fix the lack of positive parenting I had had when I am barely taking care of myself and fixing my own soul... But I most definitely appreciate the harping. Love them, no matter what, and even if. It is good and I will find a nice way to put it up on the walls for a gentle reminder. Thank you all for producing these videos and posting them.

As usual, the Best parenting channel that I chanced upon! New to my kitty, is to smile often, as I always had this misconception that smiling would make me look a little dumb and not taken seriously, so I used to always deliberately keep a straight poker face! But it's always a good idea to just smile, to show appreciation and approval for good behavior, which I always do. Thanks again for the wonderful video💖💖

My son has totally dehumanised me, I could say nothing to him, he sneered at me. I was still saying ''good morning!'' trying to start every day like a fresh slate. Buying him his favourite foods. The fact that I was trying to stay on the right side of him seemed to make him lose respect for me, like he wanted me to FIGHT him. Right now, he's at my brother's, respecting my brother with no problem. I am glad he is capable of showing respect. I guess that shows that he is capable of moving out of the first stage of moral development. Not to me, yet, he chose not to respect me, but it is some comfort that he is capable of showing somebody respect. It's small but it's all I have right now.

Hello, Dr. First I would like to thank you for all your helpful videos. Now, on a different topic (I haven't seen you speak on yet). I am a full time grandmother and wife, you probably already understand why I mentioned the two separately, but for those who don't my husband and my relationship is a different entity then my full time job as a grandparent. My daughter works retail and is a single mother of two (which makes me the main person in my grandchildren's life). She travels an hour each way for work. Since she is also the manager and salary paid she will work 9 to 10 hours, long story short, she's gone 12 plus hours a day, her schedule is every changing. My husband works the same hours everyday, and- he's the kicker! Dude to an injury I can not drive and rely solely on him to get me to my daughter's an hours before her shift starts. With ever changing schedules how can I make my 6 & 2 year old grandchildren's life's not so- crazy?(for a lack of net words). I know constancy is important, but how is this manageable without putting so much strain on my husband (no blood relation to my children) and gain some type of flow in our life's? Thank you

love laugh that's the meaning of life, have you there daily is consistency in the children's lives. Who says the children feel their lives are chaotic? If they are being cared for then they are probably ok. Sometimes it is our perception since our lives were not like that. Talk to your daughter and see if there needs to be a change.

My niece's husband committed suicide in May 2022. This was after several years of abuse to my niece and their twin 3 year olds. She was 2 months pregnant and in the Air Force when this happened. Flash forward 23 months and the kids are Tiny Tyrants. They control everything.
Specifically one twin continuously seeks negative attention. I believe he has ODD. They all have PTSD and maybe ADHD also. I am so worried for her and these kids because of their anger and rage. The baby is 17 months old now, and he is a Master Artist in Fit throwing. What in the world am I to do to help her to truly understand 90% of what they deal with is just CHAOS. And now she is trying to form a NEW relationship with a man!

We also need to watch how we talk to and treat other adults. If we are short tempered and act like we don’t want to listen to others then kids see that. They see us getting upset with other adults and they think it’s acceptable even if you tell them it’s not when they do it to you. Be an example, otherwise your kids will not listen to you.

I know it's hard, M M. Just remember that you are doing the best you can, even if your children don't realize it. Honored to have you here!

It is hard to smile, when your child has no respect, but I get the point. I lost my cool yesterday when I heard my daughter says a string of mean demeaning words. We are fighting now because she wants leave for her father and with Mike. Her father is a criminal narcissist and very manipulative. Parental alliniation hurts real bad. It's hard to fake it.

    • @LiveOnPurposeTV
      @LiveOnPurposeTV  4 роки тому +1

E H, I hear you; it is frustrating when a child is disrespectful. Please remember what you control and what you don't. You don't control your daughter's behavior, however you do control your reaction to the behavior. It will take practice, but you'll get better. Instead of getting upset, lovingly and empathetically give consequences when she is being disrespectful. Here are a couple more videos on respect, as well as 2 videos on discipline:
"Teaching Children Respect In 10 Minutes Or Less" - ua-cam.com/video/d8c4I7_vlqw/v-deo.html
"How To Get Kids To Listen And Respect" - ua-cam.com/video/_aPDJTFXADI/v-deo.html
"7 Ways To Discipline Your Child" - ua-cam.com/video/G3nu1QfOUqE/v-deo.html
      "Consequences For Misbehavior | 6 Specific Examples" - ua-cam.com/video/Fbcwp9na04Y/v-deo.html
If you want to see more videos on discipline / consequences, just search the key word plus "Live On Purpose". Or you can always browse the Positive Parenting playlist: ua-cam.com/play/PLq2mRDkHEBPCclxt6agg3wrLBRkL7CCwU.html
One last thing I want to say concerning respect: in order to be seen as an authority figure, you need to be viewed as a provider of good times and good things. If you are putting effort into the relationship, your daughter's respect for you will naturally increase. Thanks for watching Live On Purpose TV.

    - your words are either garbage or gold- if they don't listen it may be that your words in the past were used to threaten them into compliance but not actioned it. turn it to gold by
    1. say what you mean and mean what you say.
    2. SMILE! if you're happy n positive, your kids are more likely to think! kids are monitering who is on control and if they feel like they are the ones in charge they start to have anxiety. smiling sends a message that you are in control that you are not tipped over. it invites them to think and respect.
    - yelling is a parent trap- it gets their attention immediately but not good, as you may have to keep yelling. children seek your attention thru it. don't give your authority away. smile, see how you feel and how your child responds
    3. consider how much are you listening go your child? how much do you respect them? do a self inventory which can be painful but do it and find out how you are showing up with your kids, are you being an example of them of how to listen and be respectful in a relationship? :)

I have a 5 year old boy who screams, cries, kicks and hits for everything he doesn’t agree with. I’ve tried the two options strategy from previous videos to avoid the tantrums; it seems to work for things like shower and bath schedule and even chores but I’m still struggling with lunch and dinner. For example, today I gave him two options for lunch. Option 1, quesadilla with chorizo and option 2 white rice with squash and eggs. He chose the quesadilla but once it was served he started screaming and crying that he didn’t want the chorizo. I said “your screaming is showing me that you need to relax your body. I’m going to help you to your room. Once your ready your lunch will be waiting for you on the table”. He comes back apologizes and the vicious cycle starts again, screaming hitting and kicking. Any advice? Please help.

Can you advise at all, my 5 year old has learned that if she, for example, hurts herself and cries she obviously gets cuddles from me - problem is she just keeps on crying to make me sit and hug her for ages, which isnt easy with a 2 year old running around (who them gets jealous and pushes the 5yr old off me😫 which causes more crying!) How do you comfort and then know when to stop when she keeps crying for ages (not real by the end) for attention?

    • @LiveOnPurposeTV
      @LiveOnPurposeTV  5 років тому +2

She is doing it for attention so you will have to not reward her crying. Tell her there won't be hugs for crying (of course, if she is legitimately hurt, that is fine), and give her attention (hugs, singing, etc.) at other times. I know at times like this, there just doesn't seem to be enough of mom to go around, Amanda C.

I hope the video was helpful, A G. If you are a teacher, there should be help with classroom management from your school or other teachers. 2 year olds can't be expected to sit still long, they will do better with activities, songs, stories where they are moving their bodies with the activity. Do you have a place for them to sit like a mat or carpet square or pillow that is theirs alone? It is important to have routines at this age so they know what to expect.

    • @ag6287

Live On Purpose TV yes there is a rug for them to sit comfortably. The thing is that I need the most help is that the kids do not listen to me. For example when I tell them if they can help me pick up the toys they threw on the floor, they say “no” and continue playing. Also they start running around and they take off their shoes!! And I tell them “walking feet” and “okay bring your shoes” but they still don’t listen.

I do check myself, in the midst of talking to him with that sour or irritable tone, yelling, not sounding very nice. I stop. I say Adam, I am so sorry, I sound really crabby when I'm not crabby about this. I'm just a little frustrated. Let me try again. And I scale back my tone. But how do I change that in a way that I don't have to stop and apologize. I come right from the start. I don't want to give my son the resentments and the long term negative affects with my parenting as I received from my own parents. I'm trying. I really am. I am just so lost, in so many ways. I feel like an utter failure. Period. Parent, sibling, child, partner, human being. I don't know what I am doing anymore. Do I have the right to raise my son anymore? Minella, It is something we practice that just takes time. Practice in your head how to respond and hopefully it will begin to become more of a natural response to take a deep breath before you say anything. This gives the mind a chance to think and not just respond. You can count to 3 in your brain before you say anything. Practice it when you aren't upset, just talking normally.

@@LiveOnPurposeTV okay. I will do my best to practice. Sometimes I will open my mouth to talk, feel my frustration and tell my son never mind. That I need to calm down first and excuse myself. Some things I tell him I need to think of the best way to approach the subject before talking to him about it. Do you have videos on that kind of thing? How do I, as a parent, best explain things like sex and those kinds of subjects, or answer questions that society says kids are too young to know about? My son asks questions that I don't have the knowledge to best communicate about with a seven year old....

When your child refuses to do something...
    Instead of saying:
"You have to do it. You have to write/ brush your teeth/ switch off the TV."
    Say
"I can see you really don't feel like doing it.When I was small, I sometimes didn't like it too when Grandma made me do it. But we all have to do it beta. Come, I will help you."
Let's EMPATHISE before reinforcing the rule!
Let Children know it's okay to not want to do something, and sometimes we still have to and that you understand.
Be in your child's team, even while putting the boundary!
