  • If you experience a low idle, or engine stall condition in your Toyota/Scion when engine is first started in the morning or at night and you get a check engine light with code P0511, you may have a bad idle control valve (solenoid). You can get away by keeping your foot on the gas to warm up your car (like a choker on an older car), but eventually it is best to replace the unit.
This video will guide you on how to replace the damaged unit. ONLY do this after you have tried to spray MAF or Carburetor cleaner into the little hole inside throttle body and it made 𝗻𝗼 𝗱𝗶𝗳𝗳𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲.

I took apart a frozen IAC valve from a 2000 Echo that had been sitting for 17 years and gave up on trying to free-up the valve when I broke the magnet. I took a chance on a new less than $20 aftermarket IAC valve that took a week for Amazon to deliver but it works great. It claimed compatibility with 2000-2005 Echo, 2004-2006 Scion xA & xB. I almost went to a salvage yard but the new gasket included with the new idle air control valve convinced me to give it a try. Now it idles correctly again.

I think one important detail is to use an original IAC valve and not a cheap alternative, because can result in worst idling.
Another detail is to clean the throttle correctly, the butterfly, the MAF, change the air filter...because if the IAC valve has carbon, will also have the parts mentioned above.
Finally, change also the pcv valve.
Also, check for pipe cracks because an air leak after disconnecting so many parts may result in the vehicle running too rich or poor.

For those doing this, to move the dipstick via the bolt they mentioned, you're looking for a bracket!
The easiest way to find it is to follow the dipstick down with your hands until you touch a horizontal metal bracket, on the end is the bolt you can loosen to give you a little more room to work.

Two buck's? I wish I lived near you. Breakers in the UK want a fortune for use parts. Interesting video. Thanks 👍

Great video!! Scion XA. QUESTION. The two screws for the TPS are stripped. Seems like the previous owner change the TPS before. Does this mean I need a new Throttle Body?

I couldn’t figure out how to get the throttle body out with that dipstick in the way. Good to know I was ok to push/temporarily flex it out of the way. The only thing is that it would have been nice to see the 10 mm dipstick bolt you were talking about. Thanks for the tips!

My Echo 2005 don’t have this particular problem but it always start at the second try. The OBD2 shows the P0505 code. Changing the IAC can solve this issue?

I just went to buy that part at the store and they are over $200 now.
Were they as little as $25 when the video was made?
